[RELZ] The Kheran

Post » Sun Nov 07, 2010 10:00 am

@ Ladydeadlock
I will ask Fligg if he will take a look, but I can not promise much at this point (sorry :( ).
Take Care

Thank you.
That would be lovely and much appreciated.

mistress miuara,
At this point, I wouldn't let this issue deter you from using this mod along with NOM. I have never had any serious issues like CTDs or any other strangeness besides my waterskins being filled while it's raining. It's definitely not something that should stop you from using this mod. You'd really be missing out. I say try it out anyway, it's worth it in my most humble opinion. ^_^

Thanks Lady Deadlock! And you sure are right, this mod is certainly worth playing, I would recommend this for everyone! Started my kheran yesterday and love her!
Then, about some more NOM issues, for NOM (at least with Abots waterlife) users and Westly; I found bugginess, and a very simple solution too. As said, I also use Abots waterlife, wich also affects NOM water scripts, that`s where the "auto harvest water in NOM containers when raining/swimming" customisable option I mentioned earlier actually comes from.So this exact bug may not happen for plain NOM users... Now first starting out I noticed my char could not drink or fill bottles at all!! So I restarted in Seyda Neen, and tested the well and winebarrels with and without all the bottles and the waterskin; I could not fill anything from neither of them, or drink straight from the well or barrel.
Then I simply made the kheran plugin load before NOM and cleaned my save with Wrye Mash; everything has worked perfectly for many hours of play, both NOM waterscripts and her own (wonderfull!) tranformation script! So, loading this before NOM seems to be a good idea; Westly could add that to the description.
This just became my favorite race mod, so beautifull and so much fun, feels like a whole different game! And anyone who does not have Abots Waterlife with this, I seriously recommend to go get it immediately, you will spend hours just swimming around in awe!
Loving this plugin and seeing all your folks inspiring screenies made me upload some humble images to photobucket first time ever...Hope they work. Happy sealife everyone!

Firstly, I would just like to say that this is one of the best race mods I have ever seen. Two thumbs way, way up for you and Fliggerty.
But I do have one question. I've talked to Rion and went through all of his dialogue to find the location of the one who sells the weapons and armor and nothing comes up. Maybe I've missed the right topic, but could you just give me the sales person's location (I don't mind spoilers).
Thank you for your help, I greatly appreciate it and this mod! ^_^

Westly, I love this race. I especially like the gills on the torso. I just started a new game today. My Kheran's legs aren't turning into a tail when he gets in water. Are there any known conflicts with this mod? My mod list is as follows:

What happens if you make Westly's Kheran mod the very last one to load?

The 'item' warnings are very likely produced by The Victorian Experience. It may be worth starting the game without that mod enabled to see whether it then loads properly.

You've done it again, sir. I knew it was going to be attractive when I saw your name on this one. Very lovely, indeed. I like the ears - it seems that the ears of character models remained bland for so long, it's a nice change. Great job!

Thanks for your help Mr. Swiveller. The conflict was with the Horror Mod.

Just in case you don't already know this, though you probably do (but someone might be helped by this post one day). There's 2 programs that can help detect conflicts for you. The first is MLOX which if you don't know it, is unbelievably easy to use. Don't worry about it running off Python (which sounded scary to me at first anyway). You don't use Python as such, just have it installed so that MLOX works. It will also sort out your whole load order for you. You only need to check afterwards if you have some self made or more obscure mods that it doesn't recognise. The other is TESPCD which tells you every single little confict of anything. If you run a few mods there's no way that some won't appear on here, but just use sense to determine which conflicts are acceptable (sometimes it's just 2 mods adding dialogue to an NPC in a way that won't hurt it, or 'good' conflicts, where a mod is updating something or changing it for the better)

@ WESTLY- It's a bit late for me to start a new race in this game, but that's a shame because I love the head colour of the flesh (both skintone and aqua) and the gorgous partial scaly texture, not to mention the head fins! I'm glad you didn't go with the old mermaid (mer'mer') idea and did something more. I'd never have thought of head fins. Simply breathtaking work!

The only question I have is (I think you answered this in the comments but I wasn't quite sure if you had to match it up yourself somehow or if it's automatic) when you buy an armour that has the fins spell in it, do you get a tail that matches the colour of the armour? Is it any different for different mainstream races? And how does the spell work as in, is it a constant effect spell when you equip part of the armour, or do you cast it?

The armour does not have a "fin" spell, but rather, you buy the Tail spells separate from
the armour. Each Tail spell has a name (examples: Paradisia, Cobalis, and so on). The
armour was just made to coordinate with the look of the tails (should such be desired) and
are, again, separate/equippable in their own right.

There is no difference for the tail spells for the Kheran from ANY other race (they work the
same regardless of race, though "beast" races that have tails might look a bit silly, as they
will have a mer-tail in addition to thier beast tail). The advantage that the Kheran have, is
that they have an automatic transformation as default (meaning once they enter the water,
they have a tail that is matched up to their race alone). The other tail spells have to be cast
in order to work, and must be in water (though, as mentioned in the README, there is a
possible exploit if a cell has no water whatsoever, where the spell can be cast regradless of
the prescence of water or no).

I hope that this clears up any confusion that you might have :twirl: .

Take Care

Normally I don't play smoothskins very much (though their skin isn't that smooth, but you get the idea, I assume?) but this looks quite interesting, perhaps this will be the race of my next character.

Hi Westly. My name is Remora Hlaalu and i?m from Germany. All your mods i have played are fascinating me. All of them are great work ;) I wanted to translate all your mods into german (Without that mods, that are still translated into german from others). Can i have your permission to release this translated mods into german? At the moment the Kheran, Nuada and Nuala, the Sarek and the Chittaa Races are complete translated.

A translation of these would be fine so long as no changes beyond translation are made to the mods (I have experienced, in the past, where a few translators of my mods made changes that I would not necessarily approve of). To be honest, I am not all that proud of my Chitta races anymore (they were the second mod that I made, thus, should really be updated now that I am far more comfortable with new modding skill sets). Nuada and Nuala are also soon to be updated (more heads and hairs for those that might just want to play as pale elves and not Nuada and Nuala themselves). So, permission granted for translations (although I wish that the ESPs are all that were needed to be uploaded to another mod site and that others were "redirected" to the original English mod site for the other files; meshes, textures, icons, etc do not need translation). This way, I am/will be able to ensure that I have the most up to date materials on my end that you, as the translator, would not have to worry about otherwise (making sure that your version was as up to date as my own).

Take Care

Hey westly this is a pretty serius bug report... When you download the NONnvde version of the thing and remove the clothing of the npc's they are nvde. I believe you should fix this as i do not think you are allowed to say nonnvde and have it nvde i removed it via Vampire Embrace thx

You have misinformed yourself :)

Here is a quote from the README and the very first post of this thread:

The XTRA Folder:
Inside the XTRA folder there are three subfolders containing the mesh
files for Underwear and nvde options (the mod installs the nvde meshes
as the default, but are included in the extras folder as back up; just
in case) and the Alternate Aqua Skins folder (for those that like their
aquatic/marine races green and scaly).

NOTE: nvde is the default option on the basic install, so follow the
steps below to install the Underwear meshes, or to revert easily
back to the nvde meshes

To install the nvde or Underwear meshes, simply open the appropriate
subfolder in the XTRA folder (nvde or Underwear) 'til you see the
"Meshes" folder (if the folder is named "_MER", then you have gone too far
). Now select the "Meshes" folder and press Ctrl+C to copy the file.
Then open your Morrowind directory to C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Data Files
(assuming that one uses the "C" drive for Morrowind. Now press Ctrl+V to paste
the previously copied "Meshes" folder into the Data Files folder (you will
be prompted to overwrite, so click yes and the races will now use the body
style of your choice ).

I do not know what you mean when you say "When you download the NONnvde version of the thing...",
as every option is contained in one download (there is no separate DL for nvde or underwear as both
options come in the same package) .

Great mod westly, I already started a new character to play it!

oh, and just wondering, have you considered adding a magicka bonus to the race advantages? I don't think it would be unbalancing, and they do have plenty of magic skills.

Wow... incredible work! Coming back after a year and a half, I see that you're still at it and making gorgeous stuff. Look forward to trying it out.

Cheers!

hello westly,
afraid of screwing my game i ask you first:

is it possible to place an animated kheran ingame? like your djinnis in alkazabar? is there something to look out, if i want to place a swimming kheran with a mertail? or is it just not possible? i ask just for me, nothing official :)

it's one of my fave races. i like the bluer one even more

Well, you could add a Kheran NPC, but they would not have a tail (as the scripts that
add the tail are written for the player character, not Kheran NPCs). However, you could
make a duplicate race that does not have the scripts attached, add the armour "tail" as
normal lootable armour (as well as the invisible boots). Then you would have an NPC that
looked like a Kheran swimming around without too much problem :) .

I was hoping to work around this in any future installments with the Kheran (and Flig offered
to help me out); but, at this point, we are both very busy, so all I can really offer is a
"maybe" (not much help there; sorry about that :( ).

Else, I can always make the Kheran as creatures and add them to the waters in this fashion
(as friendly creatures that would follow the player using dialogue like any other companion
creature).

Anyway, I will continnue to give this serious thought (and update the mod accordingly
should anything develop further).

Also, I have been thinking of updating this race (with new head meshes and textures that
diminish their noses) as well as a few more skin options (like a Lion Fish body texture and mesh
with additional "fins"). I also want to remake the armour and weapons (someday).
