They grab everyone else apart from you because the protagonist you made in character generation is so ugly they decide to leave you.

This might be the orginal purpose, however the institute want humans not affected by the radiation for some experiment an 111 is an perfect source.
For immersion reason I'm already picturing being pregnant and shortly after my baby boy was born I lost him and my husband. Dead or not, the emotional connection will already be there, for me at least. If there is some hope, well it will create more emotional distress. The best would probably be if they both died, thus I don't have to worry.
No matter what though, when F4 have been released and people started playing some people will be upset and rage. Some will hate it if they are alive, others will be angry if our son at least is not alive.
At the worst I'll be annoyed for a moment before I shoot them in the face.
No, children in Bethesda's games are immortal.
Plus there would be no reason for that oh-so-touching bonding we saw in the demo.
You know Bethesda has children skeletons in their games...? They don't let you kill children... but they did show dead children.
As others have pointed out it wouldn't make sense to kill off our spouse and kids a few minutes into the game. I think their pods were open a couple of decades before yours. So now your wife is either die or old and your son is a advlt who will likely hate you for not being around.
Also this.
For everyone saying 'why would they put so much effort into making a dynamic baby if he's gonna die in ten seconds?' why did they put so much effort into recording 1000 names for a single NPC to occasionally use? I'm split between thinking the kid dies and shows up later but that particular excuse doesn't make a whole lotta sense to me.
I still hope I the start of the game is so vague that I can make up that your spouse and child are just ''injected'' things in your brain, as part of a test for Vault 111.
Or maybe something like Tranquility Lane.
I don't like that logic. "Why did they bother to make a dynamic kid to kill him off?" Why did they bother to make the pre war world only to blow it up? No, I think it's much simpler than that. The kid dies and so does the other parent, but not through some conspiracy or whatever. I think they simply die of old age as the player is stuck in stasis or whatever. I think the player will see his family from the inside of whatever the hell they use to keep him fresh for 200 years. I think you'll see the kid grow up and eventually die. That is my suspicion. I honestly can't wait to find out what the story of vault 111 is.
Well that's just your ability to relate to the character (don't take this the wrong way) from that I can assume your rather young and probably don't have kids so therefore relating to a parent character is alien to you but then again gamer figures have skewed over the last few years and the largest demographic of gamer are women over the age of 18 and men over 18 is second (so we will assume that extends to all ages typically leading up to 30) a demographic where we would probably find a large number of new or young parents who could easily relate to a parent PC and would defiantly be moved by the lose of the spouse and child, I definitely find that more appealing from a stroy point than a rehash of the teeny boper story again
You'll all see the baby live trust me, it's so obvious it isn't going to die. You'll be wrong just like all the other crackpot theories you have, like how you see a new rocket shaped Nuka-Cola bottle and immediately come up with theories that Nuka-Cola will send you to the moon on a rocket. Just calm down.
I agree with the "why did they bother" comment, I mean as i said earlier, they may not have planned it and its just some cool thing the guy in charge of character creation did
This by the way is exactly one of my points, I've not said he will die at the start just that he will die at some point for the emotional impact
This much we know:
Why would they go to all of the trouble if we weren't going to see him sometime down the road, even if it is only to see him die?
Once again never said we wouldn't see him, just that he will die
Hey, I'm on your side. I totally get that heartbreaking story and all with Shaun dying in our arms ala The Last of Us? I was giving reasons in support of why I think he will be around a while.
Yeah sorry I get that, And the heartbreak story has been popular lately, Last of Us, The Walking Dead, Shadow of Mordor, about 100 indie game so I could see them going that way
I was talking about in video games lately, things fall in and out of popularity
Maybe it'll be kinda like the Nuka-Break series where the Ghoul's great-great-great-great grandson is the last remaining heir to the name (besides the ghoul). And they generate the descendant based off of the baby? 200 years is a long time to live for the baby unless frozen or ghoulified... It'd be sweet to have a traveling companion that you have to make the ultimate choice about between you or him/her and then only after do you realize it was your baby.
