As TESV: Skyrim starts, the High King of Skyrim has been murdered. Many wish to recede from the crumbling empire.

As TESIV: Oblivion starts, theEmperor of Cyrodill has been murdered. Many wish to recede from the crumbling empire.

1 diff. The King is murdered BEFORE you start the game. In Oblivion, the Emperor is murdered AFTER you start.

If he doesn't get killed by a bunch of assassins right infornt of my eyes, I'm fine. They have nothing to do with each other (The emperor getting killed in Oblivion basically made the main story, but in Skyrim it causes a civil war, which is just part of the story. It's not THAT relevant).

EDIT: And as Luke posted above, he gets killed before you start the game.

Indeed. More or less the same start. However, my question is since there is a civil war between two factions, will Dragonborn be able to support one side over the other?

What's your point?

heh jk. I don't think this is a bad thing, the story is different even if the start is similar.

Unlike Oblivion, it's not Black and White, neither side is evil, so I hope you can choose who to support

And creatures from another dimension are appearing everywhere, laying waste to the countryside. It's an invasion!

Yeah.... That is a little disappointing. But I'll say it again no matter what (within reason) I'll love Skyrim and spend thousands of hours playing it. :celebration:

I have no idea if you're just pointing out the similarities, or claiming the plot is rehashed and unoriginal.

Then again, it does stink of rehash a bit. Replace "Emperor" with "King", "Oblivion Gates" with "Dragons", and "Mehrunes Dagon" with "Alduin/Akatosh" and you get the picture. Oh, and take the "prisoner finds out he's an important figure reincarnate" from Morrowind and plop it in there.

Though with how the plot is, it does sound like it will be interesting because of the chance of another Dragon Break happening.

EDIT: Then again, we already did cause one of those in Daggerfall...

As TES3: Tribunal starts, the not-so-high king of Morrowind has been murdered. Many wish to recede from the crumbling empire.
As TES2: Daggerfall starts, King Lysandus of Daggerfall has been murdered and King Camoran of Sentinel was killed in battle. Many pretend the empire doesn't exist.

So basically, the lesson is you don't want to be a king around the time a new game starts.

but it will be WAY different.

in oblivion, it's the emperor, who rules ALL of Tamriel and his successor has to be named by the elder council

The king of Skyrim... well, he only rules Skyrim, and you know, kings are easy to replace. kill him and sit on the throne, you're the king (it happenned often in medieval times). of course it's a bit more complicated than that, but still not as much trouble as naming another emperor

Just pointing it out. Leaving people to their own interpretations.
