While the world crumbled, Japan became a new, civilized place. People there realized that fighting would lead to another war, so they stopped. With things peaceful, they began to create an Economy, schools, housing, stores, and many of the things that made Japan they way it is today. One man, Kyoto Kata, began to rule most of Japan. His ways were not fully understood be many, and hated by many more. Under his leadership, a grand government was established, The New Imperial Army. Many thought that a large government wasn't a good idea, so some branched out, creating their own. One of Kata's best generals, Yoko Akuji, began her own, The Republic of the sun, to combat the Imperial Army. One other, Hatori Fujiyama, created the Underground, a gang similar to the Yakuza, and are often mistaken for them. While many have just become warlords, governing over their own settlements, the larger organizations battle for Tokyo. You are a member of such governments, and become one of the greats, hopefully. While Kata watches the wars unfold, he has a more sinister idea in mind...

Factions are as followed.
The New Imperial Army: The main government and military force, comprised of well trained soldiers, NIA for short, run by Kyoto Kata
The Republic Of The Sun: Waring with NIA, comprised of weakly trained men, but many, ROS for short, run by Yoko Akuji.
The Underground: Waring with both factions, comprised of thugs and criminals, guerrilla warfare, run by Hatori Fujiyama.
If you'd like to have some deeper character development, they can realize one thing is bad, and switch to a different side.

Appearance: He has this tattoed on his right arm いさむ つよし which is his name. He ways 200 pounds. He is six feet tall exactly. Short hair spiked in the front (black).

Personality: He is not the nicest person he only cares for himself most of the time and will use anybody that he can

Weapons: 2 Uzis, Fathers Katana

Armor: Flak Jacket. White Muscle Shirt over Flack Jacket. Blue jeans.

Bio: Is's father was a member of the Underground but was killed before he was born he was captured by The New Imperial Army for interogation but instead of saying anything he preformed Seppuku. When Is was born his mother died in child birth so he never got to know his parents he was taken in by Hatori Fujiyama the leader of the Underground. Hatori Fujiyama trained Is and made him into a force not be reckoned with. Hatori Fujiyama mostly taught Is in the art of swords this became Is's favorite weapon. Hatori Fujiyama eventually let Is go out on his own and prove himself Is did this and impressed Hatori and Hatori rewarded him with his fathers Katana which was found in a New Imperial camp. Now Is never goes any were without his fathers katana.

Appearance: About 6'0 with a slender build, average appearance except for his long crooked nose, Brown Hair and Eyes, keeps his hair neatly trimmed, and he is clean shaven.

Personality: Cunning and tactical Drew has gained a reputation among his peers as a homicidal maniac. He exerts confidence at all times and rarely seems to be under any amount of distress despite his high position of power.

Weapons: Keeps a fully loaded Energy Pistol on his holster and carries a cleaver for melee purposes.

Armor: Prefers to wear buisness clothes left over from the war, if he needs armor he takes it from whoever was his last victim.

Bio:Clarence Andrews comes from a line of powerful and influential men. In fact Clarence is the distant descendant of the United State's ambassador to Japan. After the Great War this distant descendant worked with the Japanese government to establish a new world, one that was without fighting that would destroy them just like the Great War had done. However Clarence or Drew as he likes to be called is not the peaceful man his ancestors were. Shortly after his 21st birthday he joined the Underground. Mostly he's used to further the political ambitions of the Underground but when he needs to be he can be one of the most ruthless men in the Underground.

Misc: Keeps a copy of the bible in the briast pocket of his suit. Keeps a flask of whiskey on him at all times.

The story and setting are unique; you've got some great sounding factions, and the story just seems so open to interpretation while playing; but still keeping within the story limits. What are the goals of each faction? I need to make an informed decision.

Well, the NIA came first, and ruled with a totalitarian style. The ROS came to be to free Japan, but beyond that, they have no real understanding of how to run things. The Underground want to rule Japan to have great power over others. If more information is needed, feel free to ask.

How long after the Great War is the story set? And was Japan directly hit?

The story takes place in 2234, and Japan was hit by relatively weak nukes, but much radiation spreads from China.
Timeline for you.

-2210: Kyoto Kata begins the NIA
-2214: Kata begins to rule most of Japan.
-2219: Yoko Akuji breaks ties with the NIA, and begins the ROS.
-2225: Many battles take place due to the tension between both factions, Tokyo is major war-front city.
-2228: The Underground is created by Hatori Fujiyama, a local thug.
-2230: Okinawa becomes a safe-haven for those against the factions.
-2234: Present.

Maybe you could just say where and how the people get from Okinawa to mainland Japan? Do they have to go to a specific place, or do they do it on their own? Is it like the ferryman who takes you to PL, or something else? (Can't remember his name off hand?) Anyway, here is my CS.

Name: Isoroku Yamamoto

Age: 32

Gender: Male

Race: Japanese

Appearance: Standing at 5' 10" tall, Yamamoto has a shaven head and tanned skin. He has several scars on his body, but are usually covered in his armor and clothing. Yamamoto has jet black hair, and dark brown eyes. His face is strong and fearsome, and has a well toned body. Yamamoto weights about 170lbs.

Personality: Yamamoto is a calm calculating man. He does not rush into things, and prefers to meditate before going into battle, or while contemplating about plans of action. Those he fights along side always know he is there, and has their backs. His determination is combat is unmatched; and his scars of battle show that. Yamamoto does not like being teased or does he joke around much. When in combat he is all business, until he is either killed or the battle is over.

Faction: The New Imperial Army

Weapons: Arisaka Type 38 Rifle, MAC-10, Red&Gold Handled Katana w/Family emblem on each side of the hilt.

Bio: Being of a high standing family, Yamamoto grew up in a strict and high order family. His father taught him the way of the Samurai when he was just 12 years old. At first Yamamoto did not like the training that a Samurai was to undergo, but when he got older he found a passion for it. His father always taught him to follow the path of the Samurai, and over the years Yamamoto became apart of The New Imperial Army. His skills with a sword were extraordinary, and his teachers in the NIA taught him more. Yamamoto now has a fairly good understanding of the NIA, and finds it to be the only true path to make Japan great again.

Name: Saitou (meaning helpful wisteria) Atsushi (meaning clear and lovely). Sai for short.

Age: Sai has lost track, but he was ghoulified at 22. He assumes that he's 31.

Gender: Male

Race: Ghoul

Appearance: Sai is about 5 feet tall when standing casually. His back hunches from his self conscious stature. He has no hair, his eyes are a ghostly blue, and his body has several chunks of flesh missing from several different places.

Personality: Sai has become somewhat neurotic due to his age and condition. His humor is dark and demented, much like his rotting body, and he often does odd things for reasons only known to him. He is particularly self conscious about his condition as a ghoul, and he has a fiery temper when aggravated. He is generally calm, when not excited or angered.

Weapons: Glock 20-esque handgun with 12mm rounds, and an old Wakizashi family heirloom.

Armor: Sai is often wearing whatever clothes he could scrounge. His collection, at the moment, consists of a black longcoat, a stained white t-shirt, a tattered pair of black, cotton trousers, and a pair of ripped and beaten leather boots.

Bio: Sai was born to an eventual solder of the New Imperial Army in 2203. He was raised by his mother as his father died honorably in battle 8 years after Saitou's birth. Sai never knew his father as he was always out fighting the opposition to the New Imperial Army.

After enlisting at 19 in 2222, Sai served the New Imperial Army for 3 years before being abandoned by his squad when he was caught in a radioactive crater filled with glowing fluid in 2225. Sai appeared to have no hope to escape the field, but in the side of the crater was a shaft, marked by a bright, shimmering metal. Notably weakened by the radioactive fluid, Sai barely escaped.

He soon found his way out through an abandoned mineshaft that dropped him off near Okinawa. A few days later, he started to become a ghoul.

Since his abandonment and subsequent ghoulification, Sai has kept himself separate from the factions out of sheer resentment.

Name: Tenma Metsuki ((Metsuki is his first name 'cause the order is reversed in Japan))

Race: Human, Japanese

Appearance:

-5'11
-160 lbs
-Jet black hair, shoulder length.
-Old Yakuza tattoo of a horned demon starting on his back and spiraling up his neck and also down his left arm.
-Faded scar running down the left side of his face, starting at his eyebrow and ending at his nose.
-Fairly handsome facial features barring the slight scar.
-Icy blue eyes.
-Another tattoo on his stomach of the characters: 地下鉄, meaning "The Underground"
-When not in battle he always wears a fine dark blue pressed silk suit with only a few blood stains.

Personality: Cold and uncaring for the most part. Quite apathetic to the world around him and the people suffering in it, lives by a "kill or be killed" code. A true blue sociopath if ever there was one.

Faction: The Underground

Weapons: Dual HK .45 USP handguns, razor sharp wakizashi (short katana).

Armor: A normal black cloth tanktop outfitted with several sheets of steel plates on the chest, back and sides. His bare stomach is exposed, revealing "The Underground" tattoo.

Bio: Metsuki's name in a direct translation to English means "Demon Eye's", and from the day he was born his solitary goal was to live up to his namesake. For generations the Tenma family had been embroiled in the Yakuza crime scene of Old Japan, their bloodline reaching back literally hundreds of years. Metsuki's great great grandfather Kazuo had actually reached the prestige rank of Shateigashira (third in charge) in the old Yakuza syndicate, and his descendants have been trying to surpass him since.

Metsuki's father was far less glorious than his long dead ancestor, however. His name was Tetsuo and he was shot in the back whilst running away from a battle with a small crime faction trying to take over his territory. This turned out to be a black mark on the Tenma family's name, and Metsuki was tasked with restoring their former glory. From the moment he could walk he was taught the ways of The Underground, learning how to use both a katana and various firearms in a proficient manner.

Name: Takeshi Aki (Takeshi Meaning Fierce/Violent, Aki meaning Autumn)

Age: 25

Gender: Male

Race: Japanese

Appearance: Standing 5'5 and weighing 70kg, Takeshi has 2 scars on his face one down his Right cheek and one running diagonally from his hair line across his left eye. His hair is shoulder length and black in colour held back in a ponytail most of the time. His eyes are a piercing Blue colour.

Personality: A calm and collected man, Takeshi can also turn into a very nasty man if provoked or if his comrades are put in any danger by anyone.

Faction: The Republic of the Sun

Weapons: Two 9mm Pistols and a Black and Gold Katana.

Bio: Takeshi was brought up in a military family with a strict disciplinarian for a father. Although his father served in the New Imperial army Takeshi never wanted to become a soldier and ran away aged 16. After roaming the streets for 3 years he heard that both his parents had died from a family friend who also gave him his fathers Katana. Drowning in grief over his mother's death he contemplated committing suicide to join her. Running through the streets Takeshi stumbled upon members of the Republic of The Sun who had been in a Skirmish with the NIA. He was ready to fight them as he believed them to be teh NIA before spotting insignia that he recognised as ROS. After several moments he asked to join them and for the last 6 years has been fighting for The ROS although he has had no formal training with either Pistol or Blade.

Misc: Several Varieties of food, water bottle, 2 books which he reads at any opportunity, spare ammunition and a whetstone.
