The last days of TIE and TNR development...

Post » Thu Feb 17, 2011 2:29 pm

October 19th, 2010: Whoa - this came sooner than expected. My workload and schedule has come to a roaring frenzy these past few months - with speaking engagements and other things. Therefore, this version of TIE (version 1.40) is the very last update I will be making - ever. I have had nothing but sheer pleasure modding for myself and for all of you in the official Elder Scrolls community. I have to admit I'm a little sad to leave, but the work I wanted to get done (revamp the faces and create a vanilla overhaul) has been done and now that I only play a few hours a week, my time will be focused on other things I need to get done. Thanks to all of you. That means you CorePC, Arthmoor, Duggedank, Ismelda Lasombre, ThWhip, and many, many others who have contributed their awesome talents and time in making TNR and TIE what they are. I'm not certain when I will drop by in the Elder Scrolls scene once more, but I suspect it will be when the next installment is announced. Farewell all my virtual friends, and may your gaming days be many...

[The TNR and TIE website will be available for the next week or so, after which it shall be taken down. So, if you want the latest version of TIE as well as the other mods in here, you had better download it now. Mods have a habit of staying alive even after their creators have moved on, so here's hoping the magic in TIE and TNR won't fade away. By the way...I am giving away FOR FREE both my official Oblivion gaming CD as well as the Shivering Isles CD - shipping included. The first person to email me is the lucky winner].

One other thing, I would prefer that someone here in the community take over the future development and refinement of TIE - either in the same spirit as previous version updates or in an entirely different direction (I place no limits upon the future creator's freedoms). Arthmoor, I was thinking specifically of you, but if want to pass on this, I understand.

of course, this means that I have also JUST uploaded the TIE file present in my folder onto my site. And as stated before, the TNR and TIE website will be up for another week or so - after which it shall be taken down and the extra space dedicated to my other projects.

Well I have to say that's kind of sudden, but certainly understandable given your other commitments. Hope all goes well with future endeavors and that we get to see you again sometime.

I would be honored to be able to pick up the torch and carry on. TIE has been and likely will remain my favorite overhaul. It brings so much to the game and I can't really imagine being without it. Guess I'd best head over and grab stuff before it's gone :)

And so the flame lives on :) Thank you Arthmoor - you really did bring so much to this little gem. The community will be well served by you in their search for TIE and TNR and the other mods. And your expertise and concern in taking questions is legendary - along with CorePC.

Well over 800 hours went into TIE's development - and an additional 1,500 hours in total into TNR and TNR for Shivering Isles - wow! My interest in modding prior to Oblivion was nil, so I remain absolutely astounded at what was achieved with just vanilla resources alone - especially since I have no real computer skills per se. In a sense, I suppose this resurrects the need to once more salute the entire Bethesda team. The amount of work and care they went through in creating the game must have been surreal. Modders may have perfected Oblivion, but we didn't create it.

LOL - the weird part is, I never really once "played the game" from start to end in terms of completing all the quests. I'm sure they are great, but I really only had enough time to do the main quest (a real joy) as well as half of the Dark Brotherhood. Virtually all of the 2,000 plus hours spent in Oblivion was performing testing and mod development.

[edit: Arthmoor - if you want to rip any photos and resource Jpegs off the site, please do so freely. No permission required. :) ]

awww...

So unless the front page info is incorrect (and I never thought about this), no SIE then or does TIE already have SI capabilities?

You could place files on the Nexus/Alliance with a note saying no longer supported, posting the TIE FAQ text, etc.

Thanks for all your hard work, Veritas. Love your TNR mod and if I didn't love OOO I would probably be using T.I.E as well.

SIE is done and within TIE. Currently, none of my mods are on TESNexus - other than those modified, renamed and including other resources. From here on, Arthmoor is the new man in TIE's world. He decides from this point forward what direction to take TIE and the other mods in. :)

Thank you. It really has been my pleasure to mod Oblivion. It seems pathetic to feel sadness for a gaming community, but those are the shoes I'm in now. I really will miss all of you. We may not have always agreed, but I always respected all of you. I wish you the very best not only in gaming, but in RL too.

Alright, lights out. :)

Arthmoor, feel free to grab any text off the site as well. Rip anything you like - it's all yours mate! :)

Will do, in fact already have at least some of it. The pics will definitely be nice to have though since they help illustrate things so well.

Also, I'm assuming you'll leave the Youtube links up? Those can be handy to link back to as well.

I'll get an entry up at Nexus soon, perhaps as early as later tonight, but certainly before the current site is gone. That way there's a smooth transition.

Of course, TIE is small enough I could probably get away with hosting it locally too. In which case it might be that much easier all around to simply move the HTML from the current site over to one of my servers.

I plan on removing all my Oblivion videos from you tube as well in the near future. Is there a way for you to download and rehost them? I'm afraid I no longer hanve them on my HD. :(

No idea, I've never uploaded a video to Youtube so I don't know if they can be retrieved that way. Is there a method to move videos from one account to another? If so I can always open an account and we can move them over that way.

Thank you so much for all the hard work you have put into your mods Veritas_Secreto. I've tried a lot of the overhauls out there and this one was by far my favorite. It added so much depth to the world and to the gameplay; it made you actually think hard about encounters! You had an amazing attention to detail that really made TIE something amazing. You've been a huge inspiration to me as a modder, thanks again for all your work.

I'm really glad Arthmoor is taking this over though, you've left the mod in good hands. :) It's great to know that this mod doesn't stop here.

Good luck with all your other projects and hope to see you again around here sometime. :)

Wow man, I just found you and your mod. Now you're leaving. At least you leave something unique behind and no doubt Arthmoor will do a nice job with it in the future. Gotta say, if there is a hall of fame for TES4, then you belong there with Oscuro, Francesco, and Martigen. Good luck to you.

Arthmoor, I've just rippped the .flv videos from Youtube via DownloadHelper on Firefox - if you have any trouble getting hold of them, just let me know and I can send you the videos.

Veritas_Secreto, thanks for everything!

If I was to ever load an overhaul, it'd be TIE. My copy of Shivering Isles just arrived today (no, I've never played it before!), so it might be time to TIE one on :) I can't believe nobody has ever said that before... I've always played with TNR. I have no idea what the vanilla faces look like, other than the screenies I see on the wiki.

Good luck man! I wouldn't give away your copy of Oblivion though... It has a way of calling you back in a certain squeaky little voice: I'm here Veritas... come here Veritas... Ok, enough of the creepy stuff :) See you when they release the next opus, whatever it might be...

@jackstarr: Thanks for the offer, but I've retrieved the videos and am just about done uploading them to my new Youtube account.

A bit of organizing to do after that then I'll be able to upload stuff to Nexus.

Although I never really used TIE I do know it was a very unique mod and took alot of creativity. Thank you for all your time spent creating mods and for sharing them with us. I'd like to wish you the best of luck with your other projects and hope to indeed see you once again on this forum. :)
