The Last Mage

Note: I haven't read the new book yet, so I am not sure if this is lore savvy.

4E 25

Ocato took over as emperor right after the Oblivion Crisis was over. Soon under he became a tyrant. The Champion of Cyrodiil tried to stop him, but his attempts were futile. The secret warriors of Ocato, "The Witchhunter's Society" stopped him. Soon he outlawed all magic unless given a license. The Witchhunter's Society hunted down and brutally murdered all mages. Now the empire is in a state of chaos. No priests to heal the ill, no mages to tend the library, no street-illusionists.

Ocato did this, because he believed the Arch-Magister, Lord Broodikus, was trying to take over. The people rejoiced due to his propaganda he spread about how the mages were actually plotting to kill and raise everyone as undead slaves. During this time, even the people helped in the slaughter of mages.

Most areas have no mages anymore, House Telvanni and the Tribunal for the first time ever have joined forces against the empire. Their efforts were futile, as the Witchhunter's Society eliminated them all. Soon Summerset Isles fell as well, most altmer are dead, burned to ashes, like all the other mages.

An elderly woman walked into a tavern where you adventurers were and said, "Find the last mage you must, or Tamriel will never be the same again, the daedra will destroy us, the empire will fight back, but fall." Now you must find this last mage, supposedly one of the least-known, yet greatest mages in history and have him recreate the Mages' Guild and stop the empire...

Will you answer the call of the woman?

Good plot, though I would rethink the main underlying plot. Ocato taking over and turning things to **** is too cliche at this point. Perhaps rather than it being Ocato, it is the decision of a rising politician in the Elder Council with a secret agenda that persuades the council to eliminate the mages.

Regardless, I think I'll join and see where this trip takes us.

So a group of "witchhunters" kill proper mages, including the almighty and powerful Telvanni? And an Altmer was the rod to poke these mages? So, you're telling me that House Indoril, even in it's crippled state, would ally with the Telvanni and try to fight the Empire? Considering the fact that the Indoril really have nothing magical going on about them? And Ocato would break the Armstice and attack two Great houses? You are aware that the Mages Guild in Morrowind was barred and stripped of the right to continue selling goods in Morrowind, and the Telvanni, with help from the Redoran, managed to get the Telvanni to a point where they could start openly selling wares and knowledge?

So you'd be facing the Indoril, the Telvanni, and the hereditary defenders of Morrowind, the Redoran. As well as Bouyant Armigers, Ordinators, and maybe even House Hlaalu and Dres. Considering the Duke would never allow these Mages to go about causing a ruckus. And seeing as how he was once house Hlaalu, he would most definitely have the support of Hlaalu and maybe even King Helseth. You're looking at the potential of having almost all of Morrowind crapping on these Mages. Not to mention there's still Divayth Fyr, who despite his low reknown, is probably one the of the most powerful mages in Nirn. Aside from the Dunmer mage in Gnisis who lives in the old Dwemer ruins. I don't know. I may not know all there is to know about lore, but from what I've gathered from the Imperial Library, this just seems too impractical. What about the Isles? And the Psijic Order? Ocato would have to kill his own and even face death in attempting to bring down the Psijic.

I hate to admit it, but it just doesn't seem right. I do think a new Emperor hellbent on killing off all mages in Tamriel would be interesting, but to say they've all been killed off already is just too impractical. Especially considering the guy you have doing all of this is an Altmer.

What about this:

4E 25

After the events of the Oblivion chrisis, the Elder Council was left vulnerable with no Emperor to lead Tamriel. Order became a remnant of the past -- for the Bards to sing about amongst shattered streets and fallen buildings. The economy had stumbled from stablization, and sat on the verge of total displacement. It was then that a Nord hailing from the mountains of Skyrim stepped from the shadows. His noble birth, expertise in combat, tactical prowess, and general inability to accept defeat made him an excellent candidate to lead the Empire. With mesmerizing haste, the Council ascended the young Nord to the thrown. Hrol Bear Paw, new Emperor of Tamriel, quickly moved his Nord kin to the Cyrodiil. The Elves disliked this, and began to rebel, calling upon the magics Nords had feared since their struggle to defeat the Falmer. The Council had lost all control over the Hrol, who in return had the Council executed and replaced with his own brothers and sisters.
It wasn't long before Hrol Bear Paw began a campaign to eliminate any and all magic from Cyrodiil. Turning their attention to the east, Skyrim and Cyrodiil, under their new Emperor, rolled into Morrowind, first meeting resistance from House Redoran, remnants of the Temple, and Telvanni mages. Although Hrol's troop size numbered in the millions, the swordsmanship of the Redoran, along with the magics of Telvanni and even scattered ex-Mages guild members, managed to weaken the Nordic vanguard.

In retalliation, a society of pro-magic men and mer formed and called themselves the The White Staff, their virgin color a symbol of purification.

With the Mages Guild in Cyrodiil destroyed, only the Morrowind resistance and The White Staff remain to fend off Hrol and his Nordic Imperial army.

Archmagister Broodikus leads the Telvanni defense, his hopes still high as the Nords begin to slump lifeless before his mighty House.

(Not that this would have to be the plot, but to have more detail in your description helps. It's also wise to be as canon as possible, even if this isn't a political rp.

Not to go against Zalphon here by I like Dren's idea better, as what he said. Your idea would have Ocato fight almost if not all of Morrowind, and mortal or not we have no idea if Vivec is alive or not, and even without his powers he was/is a mage and warrior to be reckoned with. And I highly doubt that the Empire would manage to search every damn cave and ruin to hunt down rogue mages, I mean look in Morrowind and Oblivion, smugglers, necromancers, bandits, cultists and rouge mages are everywhere.

The RP could have it be that anything organized like Telvanni and the Mages Guild has been destroyed, so now the remaining mages are forced to live and meet in secret.

Anyways, I'm interested at least, and I'll probably enter my juiced up mage (if that becomes a possibility) later, for now I'm waiting to see how this turns out.
