The Last Redoran

Chapter 1-

The sound of metal clashing with metal rang across the amphitheatre, but was quickly drowned out by the roar of the crowd. Roles Moren, of the house of Redoran, sunk deep into his chair, for the day had turned ill for him, as his wife Llathasa had left him. She thought that he was having an intimate relationship with their maid, an Argonian named Jeed-Ei.

This was true, to an extent, as Roles and Jeed-Ei were close, but they were never intimate. But his wife was an untrusting person, and she was always looking for an excuse to get mad at her husband. Or, at least, that is how he thought about it. Jeed-Ei and Roles would talk often, and they would walk with each other along Vivec’s cantons, ignoring the insults of the racist Dunmer children.

But finally, Llathasa had had enough, and she fired Jeed-Ei, when Roles protested, she accused him of being unfaithful to his marriage vows. So he, and Jeed-Ei left. They went to the cities Arena, because Roles had often gone there in secret, even though his wife disapproved of him watching others get mutilated, which is understandable in a way.

But Roles was paying little attention to the battle, it seemed that there was a Dunmer spellsword, who seemed to have the upper hand, fighting a Nordic Barbarian. Blood splattered the arena, as the Dunmer struck out in a lightning fast move, and pierced the northerner’s heart. The crowd roared again, normally, Roles would have aswell but this was not a normal day for him. Beside him, Jeed-Ei hissed, as she had earlier bet Roles 20 drakes that the Nord would win, she then spent a few minutes admiring the warriors biceps, much to Roles’ dismay.

As the majority of the crowd dissipated, Roles continued to sit, reflecting on the misfortunes of the day. But, as he thought the day could not get any worse, the Ministry of truth began to quiver, preparing its fall to earth as the Ingenium was denied its access to the souls that it required to function.

Jeed-Ei and Roles slowly left the arena, leaving via the large wooden doors to either side of the large room.

As they left the canton and stood on the edge of the walkway, Roles stared down at the clear water of Vivec’s canols. He hung his head, and looked down at his reflection, a dark-skinned Dunmer, he looked into his own eyes, red against the clear blue water of the canol. He cursed under his breath, and Jeed-Ei leant over to comfort him.

Then, without warning, a powerful shockwave surged through the air, as the Ministry of Truth crashed into Vivec’s Temple Canton in a catastrophic collision. Jeed-Ei and Roles were sent flying through the air, and they landed in one of Vivec’s many canols. Roles fell into the water with a splash, and he tried his best to stay afloat. He watched as Vivec, his beloved city was engulfed in an inferno of fire, rock, and sheer force.

Jeed-Ei, like any Argonian, could breathe water just as well as air, and she swam to aid her master, who was watching in horror as his birth city was slowly destroyed, but as he did so, the ground trembled from the sheer force of the explosion. They could feel the earth beneath them weakening, and fighting a losing battle with the forces that weakened it.

But finally, the forces holding the earth intact broke, and Roles could only watch as Red Mountain, the largest mountain in Tamriel, erupted. A daunting cloud of ash and dust rose from the distant mountain, and Nirn shook violently, ripping stones off Vivec and into the canols, which where becoming dangerous, but Roles couldn’t stop watching as the ash cloud was followed by a vast mantle of molten rock.

As Vvardenfell shook itself apart, Roles felt a scaly arm close around his stomach. The arm pulled him away, and he obliged, allowing himself to be dragged through the vicious water by his Argonian friend.

The water in the canol was becoming increasingly violent, moving at a fast rate, with waves up to a metre in height. Nirn shook a second time, as it was engulfed in flame and ash. Rocks flew from the cantons of the Foreign quarter, and hit the water with a splash. It was one of these rocks that was sent hurtling towards Roles. He gasped and squirmed out of Jeed-Ei’s grasp, desperate to get away, but it only proved to serve more harm than good.

The rock hit Roles, then everything went black...

Moar update! (this one is a little shorter)

Chapter 2-

Roles slowly opened his eyes, but his eyelids were heavy, and dropped back down. Roles moaned, and murmured with a raspy Dunmer voice, calling for his maid.

“Yes, master I am here, I have been looking after you for the last few days.” Jeed-Ei said, as her hand reached into a makeshift satchel, pulling out a cloth. Roles closed his eyes again and felt the wet, cool cloth touch his forehead, the moisture seeped out of the wet rag and small drops of cool water slid down the Dunmers face.

“Jeed-Ei, where are we?” Roles asked, finding the strength to speak.

“I do not know, but we are alive, and that is always something. Here, have some Guar Jerky, it will help.” Jeed-Ei answered, handing a strip of meat to Roles.

Taking the meat, the Dunmer sat up and surveyed their surroundings. He had never been to mainland Tamriel, so none of the scenery made sense to him. He chewed on the salty guar thoughtfully. He looked at his maid. She was dressed in her typical garb, albeit slightly ripped from the swim. But with a round piece of wood strapped across her back, a shield perhaps?
Jeed-Ei motioned for Roles Moren to stand, and she stood from her kneeling position. Roles noticed a scabbard at her waist.

“Where did you get that?” he asked, between bites on the jerky, and Jeed-Ei looked at him, and cocked her head, apparently he had not made himself clear. “The sword, where did you get it?” he repeated, gesturing to her waist.

Jeed-Ei nodded in comprehension and took it out of its wooden scabbard.

“Many bodies were washed up on the beach, dead bodies from the tragedy in Vvardenfell, one was a soldier. So I took his sword and his shield.” Jeed-Ei answered, handing the silver longsword to Roles.

Roles examined the longsword, it was sharp and straight, and it was engraved in ayleid at the base, where the blade met the crosspiece. The crosspiece turned at a 90 degree angle after a few centimetres. The hilt was leather bound around an iron bar, forming a simple, yet practical handgrip.

Roles handed the sword back as Jeed-Ei took the shield from her back, it was a mere wooden buckler, reinforced with iron. Compared with the sword, it was very unprofessional.

Roles looked into Jeed-Ei’s red Argonian eyes. He saw beauty in there that he had noticed on previous occasions. Just because he was never intimate with her, doesn’t mean he didn’t want to be. Jeed-Ei stared back at Roles, and the two sat in silence as Roles swallowed the Jerky she had given him. Jeed-Ei’s vision shifted and she moved uncomfortably. Roles relented and looked away.

Jeed-Ei turned away from him, and said, “That piece of Jerky was the last we had, I will not be long, I am just going to find, and kill, a Guar, I will be back soon.”

With that, the Argonian left, leaving Roles standing in a pit of his own shame...

Ahah, please tell me this is going in http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:The_Lusty_Argonian_Maid direction

Out of joke now, it seems allright. You still haven't advanced the mainplot much it seems, so I have nothing to comment in that regard. The writing is nice and it will get better with practice. Keep it up, I am curious to see where this will go :)

I haven't got to the main quest, and Jeed-Ei and Roles is just a little anecdote.

Can you explain the part about never having been to Tamriel?....that's kind of contradictory since he was in Vivec.
