The Lawnmower Man movie, Automartron, and Virtual Reality VR

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2016 12:58 am

So after watching the Automatron YouTube video I instantly got a vibe of The Lawnmower Man movie. Don't ask my why, but I thought instantly it would be cool if your Player Characters (PC's) can go into a Virtual Reality (VR) pod to go into a Virtual Reality (VR) world, like in the quest where you go find your dad in Fallout 3.

I thought how cool would it be to go into a Virtual Reality (VR) world to do robot simulations like robot fights and have some of world embedded into the Virtual Reality (VR) world to explore with the robots. I'm not saying the video game world map to be as big as Fallout 4 itself, just for the stuff I said like simulations and getting accustomed with the robots before doing things with them in the real world.

I'm talking about going into a Virtual Reality (VR) world, not actual Virtual Reality (VR) using a headset.

I'd rather have my actions happen in the Commonwealth personallly. I got the vibe the automatron dlc would be more like hunting down robots for parts and maybe a three part questline.

I think if they're doing a vr, or simulation dlc they should do it separately. I think for 10 bucks it would just be a shallow experience with the robot building

Ok I think people are confusing the Virtual Reality (VR) I'm describing.

Here's a YouTube video of the Tranquility Lane quest from Fallout 3 where you go into a Virtual Reality (VR) pod inside the video game itself.

Automatron is about saving the Commonwealth from a robot-controlling maniac and about building a robot in the real world (well, the Sole Survivor's real world). I don't see how any more content, especially completely unrelated to the rest of the content, would fit this DLC seeing as it costs only 10€.

Sole Survivor going into Virtual Reality is better left for another DLC (in which case I think people would prefer visiting memories).

I think people understand what you mean, but we/they would just prefer DLC to happen in the "real world" of the Commonwealth instead of in a VR Pod...that way we get to keep the "kewl loot" we get. ;)

Don't ask me why, but for some reason watching the Automatron DLC YouTube video I got a The Lawnmower Man movie vibe that the Automatron DLC can have tied into it.

It can happen in the Commonwealth, what I'm saying is for some simulations to happen before you go out into the real world. Or do it on your own go into the pod and try different simulations before going out into the Commonwealth.

VR has been done... twice in FO 3 - Tranquility Land AND Operation Anchorage...

Also, I actually enjoyed OA, I am with IrwinDustin - I want the DLC to affect the world around me (the Commonwealth) and that my experience matters in some way.

The... "OMG that was just a dream" realizations in movies or books has always turned me off. It's a cheap plot device.

For some reason I got a The Lawnmower Man vibe watching the Automatron DLC YouTube video.

I quickly went to compare both of them and I feel it makes sense in Fallout 4, not with the horrible effects of the 1992 movie, but something like Fallout 3's Tranquility Lane quest and the art style of Fallout 4.

Absolutely not, Anchorage was bad enough... Instead, gimme Aliens vs Enclave DLC on a space station!

I think Operation Anchorage is not so good as well, but I think the Tranquility Lane quest is good. Even though it's not big.

Take the Tranquility Lane quest from Fallout 3 and up it to a bit bigger in Fallout 4, with something of the Commonwealth and have simulations running.

Maybe switch in different types of simulations.

I didn't get the VR vibe at all. I think this is literally a small DLC that let's you build custom robots, with the mechanist as a framing device and nothing more. Hell, I doubt the "quest line" will be more than an hour or two and prpbably will be mostly radiant quests to hunt them down. Think more Gun Runners Arsenal or Hearthfire, as opposed to Honest Hearts or Dawnguard.

No. Tranquility Lanes mission was one of the lamest by Bethesda. I don't care for mission that sends you to some alternate reality. Disliked going into Azura's disk and the Sheogorath mission in Skyrim, didn't like the Painting quest and Oblivion planes in Oblivion.

Usually those worlds and missions feel claustrophobic, cheesy, and tacked on.

It's a $10 DLC. At most we should expect is something about the size of a Fallout 3 DLC. Takes place in current game world with what I imagine to include a few new locations and what seems to be 3 major quests according to the achievements. The rest of the content being the new weapons, armor, and robot customization. Sounds about right for the amount of content we're getting for the price. What amounts to Broken Steel, if you will.

And honestly, I don't know where you're getting the Lawnmower Man vibe with a virtual reality. This was nothing but pure robots.

If it were substantial like Operation: Anchorage then yes, otherwise, if it were something small like Tranquility Lane I don't see the point.

We have already had virtual reality enough with Anchorage, Tranquility Lane and the Memory Den, I think we're good on that regard.

Can't really save the Commonwealth from something that's fake, plus that would mean that the robot building and lightning gun would be exclusive to the VR world, which would be a deal breaker for me.

You can still travel in the real Commonwealth and have everything. It's just something for a training simulation for people to get ready for doing it in the real Commonwealth.

But rigging an oven to explode, finding lingerie in the basemant to break up a couple, or telling Timmy Neusbam his parents hate him and are breaking up because of him is hilarious!
