The Legend of Zelda

Post » Sat Jan 30, 2010 6:49 am

I have played and completed (as in, gotten every item, upgrade, and heart section) every Zelda game up through MM (including handheld versions).

I bought Wind Waker and got through half of it before it became mind-numbingly boring.

I bought Twilight Princess because I figured they would have learned their lesson... I never even made it through the first dungeon before putting it on the shelf and never touching it again.

I will buy this new one, because it looks like they are making a return to what made OoT and MM so exceptional.

Ranking the console versions, I get this list:
1. OoT
2. A Link to the Past
3. MM
4. The Legend of Zelda
5. Link's Awakening
6. Wind Waker
7. Twilight Princess

I am actually playing through MM again right now.

I've honestly never understood all the best-game-ever gushing that Ocarina of Time gets. I prefer Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, and even the original Legend of Zelda to it (like most people, I prefer to pretend Zelda 2 doesn't exist). Unfortunately I haven't played anything after OoT, having never owned any consoles more recent than a PS2 and N64, the latter of which my brother sold so no Majora's Mask for me either. In no way do I consider it a bad game, less favorite among Zelda games is still kicking sand in the eyes of most other games, but I just don't see it. The overworld felt like a more empty, needless transition between areas than in other games, and, dare I say it, small. Instead of a single large area filled with "stuff", the game was split into larger areas that all had their own clear exit from the central field. I didn't get the same feeling of exploration or discovery. It probably doesn't help that the game was so easy it cast a cloud of "that's it?" over everything.

You're not the only one. I didn't like OoT, and I haven't finished it to this day. Although I'm weird and kinda lost interest in LttP at the last castle area too(I swear I'll finish it some day). I loved Awakening. The two oracle games were great too. And people may hate my saying this, but I still think Windwaker > all other 3D zeldas. People that didn't play it because they think the art looks too silly really missed out.

Wind Waker was a great game, and I don't really like cell shading.
But Ocarina of Time is definitely amazing. If your opinion is that it isn't amazing, you're simply mistaken, and we'll take care of you in a second.

As their first foray into the realm of 3D, they obviously had to find a way to make a game that was both fun and large. The only way to accomplish this with the technology available at the time was to segment the map. The transition zone was an element designed to make the game feel more open and less linear.

Wind waker was pretty amazing. Too bad that a lot of it's content got cut due to time restraints and instead that fishing up the triforce pieces crap was shoe horned it.

This. The 2D ones are the best, especially the Oracle series on the Gameboy.

So you would say A Link to the Past is worth it to buy?

I mean my SNES is just sitting here.

I prefer the 3d ones as opposed the 2D ones. OoT was the first 3D one right? So that makes me believe that because it was new for it's time it just stuck. Kind of like Mario as well.

I've tried a few of the old Zelda's, but LTTP was the only one I somewhat liked.

i got it for GBA and i have to say there are very few 2D games anymore that are that good, i have to quote Hubert Farnsworth when i say
"They Don't Make 'em like they used to..
that game is great, and is actually one of the only 5 games i've ever completed 100% of.

As for Oracle of Seasons, 6 years have passed and i picked it back up, over the course of two days, i finished 4 dungeons and am at the final boss, but i still cant beat him, i need to find more rings.
i have a question for y'all who have played oracle of seasons, what can i do to get a lot of money?

oh and fallout3newbie: you're welcome man, and enjoy a great piece of video gaming.

Even WITH guides, this game(Majora's Mask) is a bit hard. But I think I understand how it works now.

I'm sort of liking the art style they're using for Skyward Sword. I've been waiting for a new Zelda for a while, hopefully it turns out alright.
Here's the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dYgrMz_XBI for those that missed it.

Looks like I might have to buy me a new Wii.

Certainly nothing like the Zelda I remember. When it was dangerous to go alone.

Sigh.... this game seems impossible with the 3 day timer... Right as I got to the final boss in Woodfall temple, I had 1 minute left, and of course I didn't beat the boss but I'm glad I got to keep my bow, now I'll get there a bit quicker...

Have you been playing the song on your ocarina to slow down time? I forget what it is, but it's a variation on the song of time.

No.... that scarecrow mentioned it to me but I thought it would appear as a song when you pause it, aww dammit...... I remember the scarecrow said "play the strange song backwards and it'll slow down time" But I wasn't sure what the strange song was.

You can also use the Song of Double Time to skip a day stage.

Isn't that where you use each note twice? I think it is. I still need to find out the variation of the song of time that slows time down, though.

I think it's the song of time in reverse. I'm sure it's on gamefaqs (or google).

I'll probably try it later when I get on, thanks.

EDIT: Yep, it's the song of time backwards.

Name: Inverted Song of Time
How to play: C-Down, A, C-Right, C-Down, A, C-Right

If you get it for the N64 you do need that expansion pack thing. It's also available over the virtual console on wii or you could try to hunt down the Zelda Collector's Edition disc for the gamecube.
