The Lightweight class : UNIQUE shotgun for them?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 5:52 pm

The lights need a shotty, if they can carry a Sniper Rifle then a shotgun is far lighter. It also effect your run speed if you do have a sniper so a shotgun can be balanced that way if need be.
The other classes can carry both a shotgun and SMG if they like, lights can only use pistols as secondary weapons.

I hate the thought of a Light sprinting around shotgunning everyone, I'm sure it would encourage players to just go off alone and break Brink's efforts to make people progress through a map as a team.

I think the speed of a Medium is just right, fast and deadly enough to be on the main assault just ahead of a team but slow enough to encourage the player to stay close to the team.

Fixed that for you.

No speed changes based on weapons. Doesn't happen. How did you test this?

And Lights DON'T need shotguns - they can use the Light Rifles - it requires better aim to do damage than a shotgun, but used properly with hip-fire, they're an effective substitute for shotguns.

I would love to see a Sawed-off Shotgun with pistol grip that has a three shot tube and wider spread. It would only have 15 (3 in the tube and 12 extra rounds), 18 (result of a soldier giving you more ammo), and 21 (a soldier with extra magazine). Does the same amount of damage but this is balanced out due to the wider spread and shorter range, so not as much shrapnel will hit.

The poll is inherently flawed. Referencing the original poll does not revert that.
The poll at hand contains only positive or neutral answers, coming from someone who obviously feels positive towards lights and shotguns.

If SD announces there will be shotguns for lights, then this poll makes sense. Until then every poll must contain a negative.

please read the disclaimer that i posted for people like you :)

I don't think light needs the shotgun, but it doesn't make sense that light soldier cannot carry shotguns. I'd opt for giving them shotguns solely because excluding them doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Exactly correct. Like I said earlier, its push polling. Not uncommon in gaming forums where players desperately want to get something in particular, regardless of how it may effect the overall balancing in the game.

Heres why I think lights do not need a shotgun - they have the highest mobility in the game. This already allows them to get in close to targets and use their speed to take enemies down. I have NO problem using my SMG, melee, and the slide tackle to take down enemy players at close range. In fact, its almost too easy. Any person who knows the strengths of lights, and is objective about their capabilities, would vote "NO, they do not need shotguns of any kind."

PS - If there is a body type that needs some loving, its not the Lights, but the Heavies for sure.

I voted for Sawn-Off Shotgun, this is how I think the stats should be, compared to the Mossington.

2 Shot Capacity

Around the same damage, maybe more pellets which do less damage each, but equal around the same/slightly more damage?

Lower Range

Faster Fire Rate

:toughninja:

EDIT: It would also be neat to have a light shotgun so that mediums could have a secondary shotgun.

I would give the lights this shotgun. Three shell capacity, pump action.

It's hard to decide which shotty would be best. A few issues come to mind:

Less powerful--> Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of having a shotgun?
Less Ammo--> Shotty's already hold very few rounds, and as is, it usually takes more than one shot to take someone down.

I feel it should be a new breed of shotty::

Bullpup 12guage ( [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi0OWQCkcVc).
-They are lightweight.
-They are compact.
-They pack the same punch.

The rest is for theory craft only:
-They have capicity for 8-12 rounds (Hi Capacity).
-Standard 4-6 Round (Magpul style) magazine.
-This weapon could also be tailored to fit a small (4-6) round rapid fire drum mag. (This is only for increased rate of fire, not ammo capacity!)
-Perhaps change of ammo type?
1)Slugs (Less Accurate, more damage on impact).
2)Some sort of miniature explosive round (Normal Accuracy, Normal Damage, Cool effect on impact-- Cosmetic in other words -- Perhaps a cool tracer look as well?).

Technical Issues:
-If we lower the ammo count per mag, we have to increase damage dealt.
-If we increase the ammo count per mag, we have to decrease the damage dealt.
-If either of the two above are changed, Accuracy will have to be re-determined.

My Thoughts:
-Decrease the Power of the Weapon.
-Increase the Ammo of the Weapon by 1-4 Rounds per standard magazine to offset the power loss over the normal shotgun.
-Increase the Accuracy of the Weapon to something near the accuracy of the worst AR style weapon in the game.

ED: Remember the whole point of having a shot gun is intimidation and power. The simple sound of someone chambering a shot gun has been enough to cause armed bank robbers, and other alike to surrender without fight. In other words, Sacrificing the core traits of the weapon just to add a shotgun to the game is pointless.

a light unique high(less powerful) gauge version of a pancor jackhammer(the coolest one ever from Fallout 2&tactics), smaller AA-12, the USAS, a shotgun revolver called the Mjolnir or b.a.b.y. Hjammerdiem XD

I have responded to both of your statements and i can't make the letters any more bold. If people do not read the disclaimers and cannot process the grammar of the actual poll question then there is nothing more i can do on this matter.

However I'm not poll pushing as you say as AGAIN (last time i am repeating this as its ALL over the OP and in this topic now to the point of monotony )

There is ALREADY a poll for voting that includes the options you wish to see. Please direct your vote to that topic. as you are not addressing the question i asked in this poll. Please re read the question and the disclaimers as well as my personal replies that i have directed specifically at you both.

Gears of war tried that in their beta and it was not liked except by like 15% of the players. It could only kill at melee range but was OP none the less.

Yay, but isn't Gears a cover based shooter where getting that close to someone is kind of hard.

Old skool, sawed off hunting shotgun, 2 barrels, either side-by-side or over-and-under. Pop out of a corner, if you unload both in the head (and rof should be near instant) he goes down, but then you have to wait for a loooong realod - break open, kick old shells out, put two new shells in one by one, close gun.

Could be a lot of fun in a "Suprise!" kinda way :)

Would make a lovely back-up weapon for mediums too.

Lights should not get a shotgun imo, having the fastest most mobile class with a shotgun would make them OP (and like with all other games which gives you a shotgun and allows you to move around faster than others, overused)

I recently got a glitch where I could run around as a light with the shotgun. I use the shotgun as a medium countless times. and I tried my very best to find it to be broken. To be honest the number of times that i shot someone from point blank range and they lived (i had 20 ping.. I wasn't lagging) It made me realize that any nerfs to the shotgun that is already available would make it a completely useless gun. I tried to abuse the glitch. I really did. But The shotgun as is really isn't that abusive with the lightweight class. In fact, I seemed to be doing better with it as a medium because i wouldn't die as fast before closing the distance. Even when i was ambushing people from above they would survive, turn around and stick me, or knock me down and finish me off in a most embarrassing way. After playing with it for a few hours i can honestly say i see NO reason what so ever that they removed the shotgun from the lightweight class. I makes no difference at all. (if not a negative one with the amount of health)

It makes me kind of sad tbh. I was hoping that it would give the lights a fighting chance against heavies once you close the distance. or at least provide 1 kill in a 2v1 situation. But the spread or damage is too weak at most of the effective ranges. I would honestly say its borderline impossible to close the distance without them being able to track you with their gun in 80% of the encounters i had in the 7-8 hours i played with the glitch.

its just disappointing..
