the looting mechancis are revolutionary

Post » Mon Mar 07, 2016 8:44 am

I'd love to see all developers of any RPG games that come out in the future to watch and learn from this ^^

It's sad that we had to wait until 2015 until a developer managed to create something like this.

It just makes the game so much more fluid not being forced to stop the time constantly when opening the loot window.

It's such a small detail, but makes the game so much more enjoyable.

Please keep it for all your future games ^_^

I agree, thought the pop up windows would annoy me before launch but i honestly stopped thinking about them being "intrusive". It just works I guess.

I don't think I've played a game with more containers, or more stuff in containers, than a Bethesda game. This is one of the best quality-of-life improvements they've added (and one of the biggest things that makes it harder to go back to the older games).

Hell you can even just press x (xbox) and a normal window will pop up and pause the game. I do it when I want to check out a legendary weapon without having it automatically go into my inventory.

Very true OP, first thought that popped into my head when I first looted.

Also Y (Xbox One) store all junk is pretty neat too.

We do have games that auto loot when youre close and I think it's not a good idea, because you don't know what you pick up every time. The loot system Bethesda have with containers are ok, since you can choose whatever you want to take. I don't want to take keys or passwords, since I loose XP. You can also reverse it and put something into the "containers"....

Cheers,

As much as I like the loot system, I find myself still pressing B on my PC gamepad, because traditionally that would close the loot menu before, which just brings up the Pipboy now, just out of sheer habit every so often.

I still hate it...and I still don't understand what is so great about it,is pressing a single button next to the wasd keys to hard for some people? If I want to loot something I do that ,I don't want to open every container or corpse I look at....

That's what I do, I always press the trade button now because i find it more comfortable to see items and compare.

Skipping a button press is very helpful, and it doesn't pause the game.

Well I can do it faster manually than with the "quick" loot and not pausing the game is not related to the quick loot you can do that with the normal system too.I just find it annoying to see it pop up without me wanting it and also simply unimmersive.

I like it. I can just use "e" on PC to take what I want, use mouse wheel to scroll through the items in containers without opening it, use "r" for opening the container and "r" again to take all. What's not to like! B) It streamlines the looting action in an efficient manner, while keeping the "old" loot mechanism if you so wishes (open container, click on each item you want and exit)

Are you sure you want to take all? Question Saved my life more times than the power armor.

Yeah I also thought that loot window would be more annoying that it is. As it is, I really like being able to check what's in a container or corpse just by hovering the cursor over.

I also appreciate that the way the loot is ordered, ammo and chems tend to appear higher in the list than armor and such - makes looting Raiders a lot quicker for me when I just want their ammo and chemo and aren't planning on looting their armor and such (which I generally just leave.)

The fact that I need a mod to disable it....I wouldn't mind it as long as it stays optional.

The thing is that the majority of the enemies won't have any meaningful loot.

You'll face 15 usual Draugrs, that all have ~9 gold, until you actually find the 'big enemy' at the end of the dungeon, that has something more meaningful.

And it's the same with the Raiders and Super Mutants that mostly carry ammo und a stimpack and nothing else of use :D

It's just way quicker to be able to take the ammo or the gold with a single key without having to pause the game...

the great thing is, that you'll still have the same big loot window that we had before, if you want it... but we aren't forced to use it for everyone :D

I can now simply decide if I want to open it or not <3

Then you obviously you have never played a "Borderlands game"...I love Fallout too, but in Borderlands you have more loot and it is even possible to get the best weapons (DPUH) in a loot source.

And?Thats even more reason for me not to want it to open.

The thing is that is not working vice versa.

Again:

1.Quick loot has nothing to do with it not pausig the game nor does that make it quicker.Normal loot can also simply work in real time I don't mind that.

2.It's not quicker.

Yes! replaying older bethesda games makes me realize how good of a feature it is.

Although i wish they would have kept the misc and notes tabs seperate, two steps forward one step backwards sometimes

it's way quicker :P

You just push a single key to collect the ammo/gold... only one :D

Before that we had to open the window with a key -> klick on the item with the mouse -> close the window with a key.

3 actions you had to do, were reduced to 1... that's a good improvement in my book :D

yeah, the misc section is very annoying :/

It's nowhere near 'revolutionary' but is a huge improvement in Bethesda open world games nonetheless. Many RPGs feature live non-pause looting of some description. Bethesda games are notorious for high numbers of containers. Back in Morrowind and even Oblivion, we had to open a container just to see whether it's empty or not. Fallout 3 introduced the "[empty]" tag when you hovered over containers making things much faster and easier, and Fallout 4 brought the logical next step to that.

The logical step from here is for the Scrapper 2 perk to be built on as a Pip Boy feature where you can scan your surroundings, pull up a list of all the detected items nearby, select the ones you're interested in, then have their locations marked as a type of blip on your radar. That way you wouldn't need to mouse over every single possible container or dark corner in the game and could just head on through each area only stopping to loot containers you already know contain things you actually want.

If I think I know what you are talking about the loot window being automatically able to loot the loot just by pointing the cursor on a container.

I predicted this would happen to Fallout 4 like one month before it released for sale I think it was.

Fallout 4 actually isn't the first RPG video game to do this there's a few others on PC that have it.

Revolutionary for Bethesda games perhaps, but its hardly new. A number of RPGs have had a similar means of quick looting without a loot window long before Fallout 4. Regardless, its a welcomed addition and I'm glad Bethesda finally implemented it.
