The Lost Spires [RELz] #12

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:44 am

Just completed the story and wanted to say again how much I enjoyed TLS. Epic and atmospheric, refreshingly difficult but with ample reward.

There was, however, one thing that annoyed me; (Spoiler warning) upon using the blade on the avatar you had to release the soul of Luminai, but this seemed overlooked at the end. Being the intrepid explorer that I am, I went back to the shrine and found that I still got a message saying that it was cold and empty. I felt that it would have been nice to receive some reward from Luminai and maybe a message similar to those of daedric shrines. There's already an ayleid crown of Luminai, if I remember correctly, so maybe another piece of armour like a shield? I know the project is basically done and dusted but this would have made a nice touch to wrap things up at the end.

Anyway, regardless, this is the best mod i've ever played so well done. Hopefully we'll see a return of the guild in Elder scrolls V.

Hi liquid, just want to say thanks... IMHO there's no oblivion without LS.
Everytime i start a new game i play through LS (around lvl 8 or so)
The whole thing is just so amazing, everything is well thought out and planned, there's just not any of those moments where you think "this could be better"
And everytime a play through it LS continues to baffle me, FX the Zinj (still haven't worked it fully out) and the psychotic chili :)
Just wanted to tell you how much i appreciate your work, even though you've probably heard the same thing before.

Hi Painkiller_rider and thanks for the weighty praise!!!

Your stuff was my first real VA work for Oblivion and it was a pleasure working with you. I'm so pleased to have had the fortune of being able to explore so many different voices for so many truly great mods...so much so that, despite my best intentions, I got dragged into modding myself.....although I'm intending for the Black Marsh project to be my last here (a new website will be up soon).....and will certainly be considering the task of making some reference, if not a full episode, to 'Lost Spires' and continuing the stories of some of the characters. I've mentioned this before elsewhere and hopefully I can have Liquidgraph's input, however small (very busy man these days!).

I really loved playing The Lost Spires,it made me think about what I had to do to find the quest item and where to find it, and the next quest followed seamlessly. The first time I entered a Spire I just stood there and looked around for the longest time, very well done, and the sound effects are excellent and add to the atmosphere in just the right way. Ibsen3 a special mention to you for the voice acting a job very well done, quite a teem there, I don't know who did Solan's voice but it reminded me of Keanu Reeves (I may be the only one that thinks that, but it did none the less). The Lost Spires is on my must have list for my next game. Thank you for giving me hours of enjoyment. :goodjob:

One of the first players of LS comes out from the darkness.

I'll just be happy when I finally beat it. Though this time..I have the adjusted version, so I'm sure I will. It was certainly nice fighting a certain big huge boss again.

Ah! I completely overlooked that. Luminai's shrine should at least say something different after you release her -- perhaps in a sweet, angelic voice. You up for it Ibsen? This one's gonna stretch your range

...there's just not any of those moments where you think "this could be better"...

Thanks man, although I can't let you get away with this piece of shameless praise. ^_^ LS is far from perfect, and I still feel dirty about not having gone back and polished it up proper.

Lost Spires has been one of my favorites since I first added it, and I keep it through every play through. Even when I don't do the quests, I like knowing the guild is there. It fits beautifully into Tamriel. :)

On the other hand, if you ever were tempted to polish and expand it, that would of course totally rock. ;)

Aye, very true, you are an extremely talented voice artist (please PM me when you will start your website). Lost Spires is probably the perfect background for VA, due to the inspired dialogue lines and good specialisation of the NPCs. However, from time to time, I check in Gift of Kynareth just to hear Morihaus speaking - great job there, mate!

Back on-topic, I'm progressing through the quest and I have to re-state I am much amazed to see the superiour detail Liquidgraph put into everything... You'd make an excellent Level Designer, Liquid, trust me! ;)

Cheers,
PKR.

EDIT: finished playing the mod - I'm trully impressed with everything! Again, congratulations Liquidgraph&Co for the outstanding job and my wholehearted thanks for giving me a reason to play Oblivion again! :foodndrink:

I had a problem with the first spire - The Newfound Spire.
The game would keep crashing when saving. It did not crash when turning off scripts (TSCR from console). Probably some weird script conflict.
I "solved" the problem by COC'ing to Weye, purging cell buffers, saving and then teleport back.

BTW, any easy way of incorporating Lingwei's AI adjustments into an existing game without breaking the quests?

first of all: this is a great Mod. It realy looks proffesional espetialy the new meshes textures. nevertheless there seem to be a bug. I didn't read through the whole thread so these may be a known issue.

I can't hear any voices!

I'm using V14 on a german Oblivon with other mods.

edit: It was the same Problem as mentioned in 27. in the FAQ. -> solved

Gah! Solan was the only male voice that I didn't do here and the only actor whom I did not recruit  . Nonetheless, I can confirm that that was the work of 'The Shadow' and yes, he did a fine job :) .

Concerning the Black Marsh Project (mainly @ Painkiller_rider) - Thanks, mate ;) ! I'll hopefully have time over the next few weeks to post up an official wip thread about Black Marsh which will be the first time that the project has ever really been officially announced on any of the forums....strange, really. I'll probably have more news about the official website to report as well. In the meantime, if yourself or anyone else that you know is interested in helping out to some degree then you'd be more than welcome on the forums over here: http://www.silgrad.com/wbb2/board.php?boardid=62 . I'm in the final stages of a process in making the project far more accessible to modders who just want to make small contributions.

How do I use the posters?

also I just downloaded this today but from what I have seen and heard this has the best voice acting out of any Mod out there I look forward to playing this.

Ok I just finished this Mod and it is great the rewards are awesome(like the warlock Torch for instnace is cool along with all the other cooler things) also really good story line I really liked it. But I do have a few sugestions
1 when the archologist aprintices talk you will see something like 006(I would remove thos if you can)
2 you have a picture in the factions thing but it stays the same for every rank if you could change that it would be a bit better
3 the arcyologist apprentice in the sleeping qurters needs an update after you kill the leader guy(I cant spell his name) you should just have him refer o him in a past tense
and 4 when you finish the quest there is not much you can do maybe you should add the ability to take an arcyologist apprentice as a companion, or better yet have something where you can found excavations(and you can get some lvl loot from it in return)

all in all the things you need/could do to this mod is small it is really a great mod and is the best I have played for oblivion I am 99% satisfied with this mod(tiny things I would like to see added to it but dont make any differnce on the gameplay)

Thank you for making such a great Mod(I still need help with the posters through)

That last comment certainly earns you some help from me ;)

Go here: http://www.lostspires.com/pages/faqs.htm and look at point #21. Or, to be more direct, download the mod you need right here: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6021 .

As for your suggestions, I think that it was me who was responsible for adding the extra assistant's lines. I wasn't as aware of the whole storyline and everything as liquidgraph, who made the mod. Regarding the other points, most of those would only really be worth releasing a v15 for if there was going to be an 'episode 2'. Liquidgraph has made clear in the past that this would be out of the question yet, as explained above, I had considered working it into my Black Marsh mod.

While the Black Marsh mod is on my list of most wanted mods, I highly appreciate all of your voice work done for other projects, especially The Silgrad Tower and hope you continue voice-acting for the team. Release 2.5 was very polished but unfortunately almost completely lacking voice-overs. I hope to have a fully voiced 3.0 version and a great Forgotten Garden expansion pack.

I haven't any other mods activated, yet my game CTD's whenever I try to go to the battle site in quest-stage 70 from the hero quest.
Otherwise, it's a phenominal Mini-Expansion! ;)

Does this mod add classrooms under the Arcane University? Is it compatible with Origins of the Mages Guild?

I ask because I played for awhile with this mod installed and didn't notice any additional doors around the base of the tower. Then I installed Origin of the Mages Guild which is when I noticed the doors so I figured they were part of Origins.

I went inside and found a couple of notes between a Mages Guild professor and an Archeology Guild member which then made me wonder if it was part of The Lost Spires and I just didn't notice them before.

If it is Origins that's a nice bit of clever cooperation between the two mods.

:hubbahubba: Yes, it's compatible. I've worked as a voice actor with both 'Lost Spires' Liquidgraph and 'Origin of the Mages Guild' Giskard. I ended up speaking with both of them at around the time these mods were going through the final stages and had them both active around about the same time as soon as the releases came about.

Although I can't claim any credit for the idea (I think it was Giskard's), it's nonetheless something we talked about at the time when Giskard learned I'd worked on LS as well. Giskard liked the Dwemer statues in the Guild and Aster Cei (the Guild member) was one of my voices so I think I may have told him a little about the character. It's a real pity these two titans of the modding scene will never work together for a proper project as they've since moved on to better things....

Sorry to hi-jack this 'Lost Spires' thread with my own stuff but it might be worth mentioning that the 'Forgotten Garden' teaser mod has at long last been purged of the most bizarre FPS bug that this experienced team have ever encountered and that they are now finally into the beta testing stage. And to think that, besides the FPS bug, we were ready to go with this before the New Year......damn irritating :brokencomputer: .

Yup, now that you mention it I remember Aster being the Archeology Guild member that wrote one of the notes. That is very cool... and totally unexpected!

Thanks for the compatibility confirmation as well.

I'm playing through this and i'm up to the point where I go to the Pristine Spire and explore. I scoured the entire place before looking up what I need, a parchment on some skeleton inside the Warlock area, and the skeleton wasn't there. So, I follow the steps on the main site, setting the quest stages through the console. I get the funeral to trigger and everything runs fine, then afterward I can't continue in any quests.

The Another Spire? one is listed as finished, saying that Sova needs more time to complete the translation. I assume I need to talk to Norlene for the next quest, but the only option when talking to her is Buy Posters.

Is there any way to start the next quest through the console or anything?

Was this the part where you're supposed to look for the dead body of Solan? It's been ages since I played this now but I remember missing the book that you need to find which is actually lying on an altar near the body.....that's just a stab in the dark but let me know if I was right.

I love ot when mods work together, instead of against each other. :)

Inside the Ancient Studies part of the Arcance University there are several unowned Aylied Statues. Won't this make the "The Collector" quest, where Umbacano wants you to collect ten Aylied Statues, too easy?

Just wanted to drop by and say how much I'm enjoying this mod. First rate in every way! There's one surprise after another and they are each unique. So far I've managed to figure out what to do in each step of the story even though I've had to retrace my steps a few times but it's worth it. Now if I can just figure out what the posters are for I'll be a happy camper. 8^D

I really can't remember, since I just picked up the quest again after going around doing other stuff for a while. It's the part that is referred to in the FAQ:

Q: I’ve cleared out the first portal in the Pristine Spire but received no journal update.

A: Inside the first portal, next to the Warlock Coffer, lies a skeleton corpse. Examine the corpse and pick up the quest item in its inventory. This will trigger a journal update.

If the corpse isn't there, open the console by pressing "~" and type: "SetStage ARAnotherSpire 40" Speak to Verus. Verus will ask for the scroll, but since you don't have it, you'll need to type: "SetStage ARAnotherSpire 50". Speak to Verus again. He will direct you to Sova, but since you still don't have the scroll you'll need to type: "SetStage ARAnotherSpire 60". Speak to Sova again and conclude this matter. Follow your journal from here on out.

After I type: "SetStage ARAnotherSpire 60" the quest is listed as completed and talking to Sova only brings up the funeral. After the funeral happens and everyone goes back to their positions, no one has any new quest dialogue. It's all just buying posters, or nothing at all.

I'm having a bit of a problem and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if my game is going funky. Through the portal in the overgrown spire, after I kill the warlock, blue blocks seem to fall from the sky and kill me. It's happened twice now, and it's rather frustrating since it takes a while to get the guy to die. Any advice? The first time I thought it was perhaps part of the game, some effect of killing the warlock, but there is almost no lag time between his death and mine so it would be impossible for me to get away if that is the case. I could really use some help! Thank you!
