The Lurker's Lair

So I've been in America for a week now, and it's rather a strange place. Do obese people really need mobility scooters to do grocery shopping? Is that really helping? Why are there so few bus services? I've only seen one bus in my time here and it was completely empty. How can there be 800 channels and nothing good on any of them? Why is it that although everyone drives, no one knows how? Every time we nip down to Wal-Mart we're putting our lives in mortal danger. Why are the trucks so big? These are the questions that haunt me.

Im learning about Oscar Wilde at the minute, I find him entrancing. I want to buy the picture of dorian gray. I watched the fim Wilde starring Stephen Fry. One of my favorite parts of the film is where he quotes the play salome after dinner with his lover Bosie:

“Ah thou wouldst not suffer me to kiss thy mouth Iokanaan well I will kiss it now, I will bite it with my teeth as one bites a ripe fruit, yes I will kiss thy mouth Iokanaan. my body is white like the snows that lie on the mountains, like the snows that lie on the mountains of Judea. Come down into the valleys, the roses in the garden of the queen of Arabia are not so white as thy body.”

I thought "wow this guy is amazing". Its a shame Bosie mistreated him so much. Bosie bankrupted abused and started the law suit that led to the imprisonment and ultimately the death of Oscar. Heres an example from the film:

"but you give all those renters cigarette cases"
"But Ive lavished presents on you! every penny Ive earned from my play Ive spent on you!"
"oh im sure youve been counting, your so mean and penny pinching"

If I was a friend of Oscar's I would have kicked Bosie's but for being so ungrateful.

Ah, that reminds me of my first time in the US. Happy memories. I came from Venezuela, which was a pretty poor place. Shopping malls in the US looked like monoliths of infinite wealth and pleasure. Driving in Venezuela is driving in America, but blindfolded and on meth. So I, on the other hand, was amazed at the courteousness of the drivers here and how shiny their cars were and how slow they moved compared to the rickety, beat up old cars everyone drove in Venezuela.

The concept of free public transportation that didn't smell like the back end of a mule was similarly mind-blowing. Although we hardly ever took it anyway.

And the eight hundred channels and nothing good on them was easy enough to solve for me. Just watch cartoons and forget you're grown up. Trust me, it helps. It really does.

-It's socially acceptable to some because obesity is considered a disease (As Rick Gervais said: A disease gained from eating too many pie and chips)
-There are few bus routes because most people have their own car.....often leading to horrific traffic everywhere
-Because TV executives think of most of the populace as dumb sheep who'll watch anything, so this usually leads to crap TV
-Because most Americans are stupid (And stay out of Walmart, the worst people America has to offer congregate there)

Been a while since I posted here. Just had to share this. I went to Blockbuster the other day (first time in years, Netflix ftw), and saw http://i54.tinypic.com/14b7r9.jpg. "WAT?" indeed. If I was a weeeee bit more of a sci-fi nerd I would have yelled at the first employee I found. :P

In other news, this semester is ending soon. I'll be renting a room for the 5-6 week winter break, so luckily I'm be staying in San Francisco, though it's I'd be much further down the peninsula than I am now. Plus I'll have internet! It's a much much better alternative to going back to New Jersey, where I'd probably kill myself after the third week.

North attacked me last night for no reason, and bit my lip and nose, drawing blood. Now I've got a fat lip and a sore nose. Trust is broken.

-------------
Anyway... anyway, it's been a good thanksgiving. My sister made this absolutely delicious stuffing, it was cornbread and bacon and pecans and herbs and it totally rocks. The pepperidge farm stuffing from a box that we normally use for thanksgiving paled in comparison, I don't think I could ever go back to that bland mushy stuff again! The turkey was moist, the smooshed potatoes were tasty. :liplick: None of us stuffed ourselves silly either, which I think is a good thing.

Apps are all done and turned in. :celebration: I only applied to a few schools but that's because no other colleges in California interest me. I want to stay in this state for just a bit longer too. We'll see what happens when I get my response in April.

Now it is time to enjoy my senior year.

So today I had a interesting surprise where while I was reading a book in AP english class a girl noticed the Warhammer 40k label and mention with great excitement that she loved to read the books as well and being the first time that I found someone into 40k novels in real life left my expression something like this ===> :o.

Apparently the dad got her into the hobby so I found someone with similar interests proving to be a welcome surprise.

Now I'm imagining a creepy old man asking a Space Marine about his six life.

Only in BGSF, I guess.

EDIT: On topic, I'm being overwhelmed by the amount of homework I have. I have a project due Monday, a physics test Monday, a Calculus test Tuesday, and God only knows what else.

On slightly better news, Wednesday is porm Day in AP Gov. We get to talk about what exactly counts as obscenity, as per the recent supreme court case. I can only presume we won't be seeing for real porm.

Yep, being gay doesn't mean anything when it comes to partners, they're all swine, EXCEPT ME!! :)

When I was a baby I had a Jack Russel guardian who never left my pram. Even when the secret police came to our house she stood in front of them and protected me. She was my best friend in adventures outside for 15 years. Thick and thin. And yet if I trod on her when she was asleep in front of the fire or came too close when she had a bone she'd bite me. We all have our limits and private space I guess.
And I am sooo hungry now, I demand Thanksgiving for China!!

Had the funniest day. We were having a class party and our teacher brought in a few dvds. She asked if anybody bought other dvds that we would prefer to watch, and this guy bought 'Borat'. He took off the dvd cover abd said it was rated PG and was about a missionary in a third-world country. Then she said, "put up your hand if you want to watch Borat." Every hand in the class went up, so she said, "okay, we'll watch it after recess." BUT! Word got 'round out Year quickly and the other class told their teacher, so he found out and took the movie from the guy with the movie. I still find it funny how gullible my teacher is XD.

I've got my third Organic Chemistry test tomorrow, and I've got a bonus Biology test next Wednesday, and a Calculus test next Thursday. The week after that is finals, but at least I get the whole of January off.

Speaking of Organic Chemistry, how is your class going Alaisiagae? I remember you mentioning that we're both in the same hole when it comes to crappy professors.

A perplexing thing happened to me today. I was at a student council meeting (at which I do nothing. I am the principal's liaison, but there is a second one who writes things down and what not, so I just drink iced tea the entire time), and we were talking about themes for a dance. I was one of the few people who did not vote for a specific theme, and they asked me which theme I would like the best. Me being indifferent, said "It would be easier for me to say which ones I would not like the best". I said this slightly perniciously, as I was desolate about a double period of math I had later. What is odd about this is that they responded as if my implication was that I don't like most , or any of them. But in reality, my implication was that I don't have a particular preference. It was as if they had listened to my tone of voice, but not the content of my sentence.

On Saturday, we had our going away party for my aunt who's moving to the Netherlands with her new husband. I learnt that day that carrying balloons home through wind svcks, especially when they block your view of the sidewalk. Unfortunately, I got a cold soon after and my nose is still stuffed up today, though the sore throat is gone.

That svcks. Everyone around me has been getting sick lately, especially at work which has made for some stressful (short-handed) work days. Hoping I make it out alive. Hope your aunt's trip went / goes well.

Did you use my recipe?

Ah... this svcks. I'm studying for that calculus test from before. How many of you can integrate tangent of x squared?

EDIT: Squaring the tangent of x, not just the x itself.

That reminds me, I have a calculus test on Thursday.

y=tan (x2)

EDIT: Didn't bother, though I don't think my parents would allow me to get the vodka at any rate.

You mean tan^2(x)? I have a test on that Wednesday. Should be some fun stuff.

I've got break in a couple weeks so that means finals are coming up. No big deal though since our finals aren't even that bad. I just need to get my grade up in calc and then I'm good to go.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH :ahhh:

I've got my Cambridge interview today. Feeling slightly uneasy at the moment. It's now 20 past 7, so I have 3 hours and 40 minutes left. Just hoping I don't somehow bomb the maths test. But at least I've got an interview. When I've finished the interview, I have to go back to my school for the Christmas rehearsals. I don't know why we even bother rehearsing, since the script is exactly the same every year, only recycled. Then I'll be revising everything for the exams in January. 8 exams, not going to be fun.

Well, considering that Dtan(x) = 1 + tan2(x)...

∫tan2(x)dx = ∫(tan2(x) + 1 - 1)dx = ∫(tan2(x) + 1)dx - ∫1dx = tan(x) - x + C

Anyways, mother nature decided to take a dump yesterday and now I've been wading through knee-deep snow to the bus stops, with buses being late en mass. But of course, mother nature isn't the cause of all evil. People too have a habit of making my life problematic.
I'm supposed to be in Geneva right now, but the flight attendants are up to their usual shenanigans and are striking, with a bunch of other sympathizers jumping on their bandwagon as well. So the flight was canceled and the trip along with it. Now I don't blame the flight attendants, they've got to have their rights and all. And the big evil corporations got to make money as well, so I don't who to throw a fist at, albeit imaginary. At least I'll get my money back.

Other than that, I've been feeling quite content with the latest results from the exams and is waiting to write the finals sometime after the Christmas holidays. Yay.
