The Mages Guild Symbol

And what about Magnus? How can the "sun" be considered an entity? It's a hole isn't it?

On the subject of Thaumaturgy: I never really played magic based characters in Daggerfall, so I don't fully know what spells were in that school. But I thought I remember seeing a description of it somewhere as being 'blood magic'.

Could someone clear this up a little for me?
EDIT: after a quick search at TIL, I find that I am completely mistaken. Please, take no notice of my foolishness

Ah, someone's tapping into old White Wolf Vampire: The Masquerade memories, eh?

And paw-prints, you know I'm just joking. I often do that with people with whom I envy...(for being able to ride the Numidium into sload-dom!! :woot:(again) )

EDIT: Magnus (the Aedra of Magicka) is represented by the Sun because the Sun, while it is a hole, is THE hole that Magnus tore in Oblivion on his way out, and since magicka seeps in through Aetherius via the holes/stars, it is through the Sun that most of NIRN's magicka originates. Thus we have Magnus being linked to the Sun and from there we get the symbol.

You're kidding me? Magnus made the sun when he fled to Aetherius. And considering the sun is not just a hole, but a window to what Aetherius is like in daytime, it's a gateway to and provider of magicka.

But Thaumatury had many of the spells in Alteration which I forgot. So the now existing schools might have been called Thaumaturgy before. But now I'm way out in Aetherius.

personally, I would use the soul in a way befitting a "Word Merchant" of Julianos--- I would bind it to a book with blank pages, and create an enchantment to make it print ONLY lies when activated. A book of magickal false knowledge, for all time. PERFECT.

*sigh*

*kneels at the altar in Abibon-Gora and says...*

And thus the masses gather to aid their unclean selves as directed by the flabby claws of Hermaeus Mora. Forgive them, Lord Julianos, for they are but self-fulfilling prophecies, puppet examples described in the words of http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/monomyth.shtml#Cyrodiilic: "Thus do the Daedra Lords court and seduce certain amusing specimens of the Mortal Races, especially the passionate and powerful. It gives the Daedra Lords special pleasure to steal away from Shezarr and the Aedra the greatest and most ambitious mortals.".

You like taking stabs at me don't you Mariel?

I've never read anything about Magnus the deity. So something named Magnus goes and punches a hole in Oblivion and the hole is named after him. Then he just disappears? Oh of course not! He probably became an aspect of Lorkhan or something else obscure like that. Is he a shade of Anu or Padomay. Let's get some all caps stuff in here to make it legit.

AE SCARABEX ALTADOON *hrumf* CHIM?

That seems right. Oops almost forgot a tower reference. Can't have a TES factoid without one of those. Which tower is Magnus? Aether-Magick-Hole?

actually.... Magnus is the architect which helped design the plan for mundus, and thus, for its first tower it could be argued, even though other beings did the actual construction.

Magnus started thinking about the plan, and noticed that he was going to be used too, and say 'HOLY JEEBUS! I IS GETTIN OUTTA HEREA!" and tore a BIG hole in reality to get away. :P

Lorkhan had the urge, the desire, and the intuition to communicate this idea to Magnus.

Magnus envisioned the mundus's mechanical parts, or-- how it COULD be built.

You serious? It's like you never read Varieties or at least the UESP section on gods. I'd take a stab at you if you don't stop confusing yourself.

Be grateful to Wierd.

While I do agree that consorting with "ililicit spectra" is the reason for Meridia's alignment shift, I do not, at the time, accept that it was strictly due to her association with Lorkhan, for all of what we now call the Divines would be guilty of doing the same, and their alignments didn't shift. Additionally, Magnus and Lorkhan were partners in Mundus-building prior to Magnus abandoning the project. Now the question(s) become...if Meridia WERE shifted due to association with Lorkahn...

1) Was Meridia "consorting" of a different nature than that of the Aedra and Magnus?

2) Was the "consorting" similar, but shifted due to her refusing to cease upon command?

Muthsera Aldanaril,

I always enjoy returning to the forums, even though my duties outside oft'times require an extended absence. You, sir, along with the other noble lore-o-philes, are the reason that I do so.

Free blessings, and may JHUNAL smile upon ye.

It's posible that she screws with what Magnus gives to creation (light), by spliting White Light, into the spectrums of colour (allowing for diversity and life, which she has been associated with since Daggerfall). By doing this, it's posible that this is when Magnus realises what is happening and punishes Meridia for messing around with Lorkhan and becomming Padomaic (and then sends her sorry Merdian butt to Oblivion), and then escapes back to Aetherius.

The Mundus, Mundex Centrex, Grey Maybe, Mortal World, et al--- is an artificial construct.

It is created out of an idea(l), that was cemented in the real using the magickal bodies of sacrificed divine beings.

It has nothing to do with triangles really...

I see a hell of a lot of symbolism in OB. I particularlt liked the Mages Guild crest myself. One that does not know, would not get its meaning, I like that.

There is a tree in Anvil surrounded by park benches, near benerus manor... there are eight park benches around this tree, I believe if memory serves correctly.

I like finding neat stuff like this.
