The Manly Deal

Pardon me while I step out and go get me one of them thar trucks. *O YA BABY*

*Serious*

I'm quite amazed at the lengths people will go to in order to make a sale. I thought it was illegal to sell AK-47 since they are classified as assault weapons and can use the 7.62mm AP rounds. What guns are illegal to own exactly? *Know in California you can't own a .50 rifle and strangely know it's illegal to own a flame thrower in CA.*

Hell, you can buy them here, as long as they're downgraded from auto to semi-auto. I use one, but its only single shot. Which sorta belies the point of an assault rifle in the first place.

Its something of a rip off though, you can get one in Afghanistan for under £30.

What's that you say? Give the monkeys their free guns? Okay, what could go wrong.

Like an automobile door, I sense a lock coming on..
Also, you failed to point out that the purchaser gets a voucher for the rifle. Application for gun ownership must be filled out in accordance with federal and state laws.

Here's the list of restricted firearms for the state of California. http://crime.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=crime&cdn=newsissues&tm=50&f=00&tt=11&bt=1&bts=1&zu=http%3A//www.ag.ca.gov/firearms

This post made me laugh and (almost) weep. As a Brit, I have no idea how this is considered a reasonable freebie, or reasonable anything! And as a tribute to veterans? You Americans live in a strange and scary place...

It's not like they are handing out assualt rifles like happy meal toys.
To own a gun, the owner must apply for a permit, complete registration process, be approved and go through a waiting period.

If they don't want a gun, they get $400.

Shooting for recreation (poking holes in paper) is popular. Its like their 4th national past time after Amerian Hand-Egg, Baseball and watching telly. $400 can net you a pretty decent rifle or pistol. I think I saw an add somewhere where you can buy a crate of 10 Mosin Nagant 38s for about $500. BARGAIN!

Countries without a gun culture don't understand it but its in their national identity. Took me a while to understand it all.

The "Tribute to Veterans" is a pretty ridiculous gimmick that happens everywhere over here. By now, we're immune to the poor taste of these things.

As for how this is reasonable: an AK-47 is basically a hunk of plywood and metal stuck together in an improbably miraculous way that makes it shoot bullets. They're cheap and will last you forever.

And we just [censored] love the [censored] out of our guns in rural areas. And suburban areas, too.

It's a weird, wonderful culture.

You have no idea how often I have to explain to my fellow countrymen that yes, firearms of various types are legal here too....

They're legal here too, its just a long and arduous process that makes me want to drink acid.

Tell me about it. Its easier to get a job in a school than it is to own a firearm. Which is probably for the best, cos you can't kill someone with a misaimed chalk duster.

What if the person that gets hit with said misaimed chalk duster has their mouth open and chokes to death on said misaimed chalk duster?

lol! I know people down my end can own firearms, but it is such a rare thing still. But then, my only reference to Americans and their "gun culture" are articles like these, films, and video games :P

Not really, there are several hundred thousand sporting shooters, not including the ones who hunt, and farmers.

That's still pretty rare, considering the population overall. Plus, like I said, it was in comparision to the image I'm fed as someone who has never been to America - which is obviously stilted. Hence the :P

What about that teacher who beat the studant with (hmmm I cant remember what it was) yelling "DIE, DIE, DIE" didnt kill the kid, but damn he tried.
Also while you can own guns in the UK, I dont know many people with automatic weapons... So its a bit of a difference. Personally I dont see the need for automatic weapons, for hunting single shot would probabally be fine, same for defence too (I know you cant use guns int the UK this refers to america) I mean if a guy breaks in 1 shot should be enough, you dont need the shoot them 10 times to kill them. I just see automatic weapons as over the top personally.

No one uses chalk anymore, they use dry erase boards and markers.
Too many lawsuits over asthma and allergies.
