Anybody get the feeling this is where Bethesda is going with the ES series?
For those not willing to read the whole thing, I'll sum it up. There are seven towers in Tamriel which maintain the stability of the physical world. Each tower has a "stone" that corresponds to it. And when that stone is destroyed, the tower it's tied to is deactivated. And throughout the games and events, these towers are being systematically deactivated. Best examples being the Heart of Lorkhan and the Red Mountain, and The Amulet of Kings and the White-Gold Tower.
The Throat of the World is also arguably one of the towers itself. Although Alduin's Wall makes me personally believe that the "Snow Tower" is all of Skyrim, not just the Throat.(The Snow Tower lies sundered, kingless, bleeding = Skyrim is divided, kingless, and at war because of Ulfric's rebellion). But what counts as a "stone" for it could be anything. But my best guess would be Alduin himself.
And there's also Michael Kirkbrides post The Altmeri Commentary on Talos at http://www.imperial-library.info/content/forum-archives-michael-kirkbride
What this implies is that that the Thalmor are pushing for the destruction of the towers and the extinction of man and Talos is a part of it, because they believe they can reclaim the divinity of their ancestors, the Aldmer.
But there's also Mankar Camoran's claim that Lorkhan was a Daedric Prince and Nirn is just his plane of Oblivion. So if the Thalmor succeed in what they're planning, they could very well be making a huge mistake.
Thoughts?
