So I've never seen this topic brought up, but I realized something interesting. At first I thought that Automatron (the name in the DLC) was simply the name of the Mechanist's strongest robot.


However, Automatron implies gender. It's the AutoMATRON. Like Antagonist. It's a play on words that, for whatever reason, didn't occur to me until just now.


So maybe the Mechanist's robots were co-opted from him by a female villain named the Automatron? Thoughts?

Could be, but I think it's just the generic terminology they use: Protectron, Securitron, Assaultron and so on. Granted, Automatron has "matron" in it, but I wouldn't put much stock into that meaning a female villain.

I also hope they don't tie the Mechanist into things as a villain; in my playthroughs of Fallout-3, he was just a well-meaning guy who got caught up in his fantasy life and I was able to convince him to calm the hell down and quit with the shenanigans.

I agree. I don't like the idea of the Mechanist being a villain, either.

Naw he's a great guy. Fixed my car just last week.

Mechanist is a popular comic character in the Falloutverse. He is not something that the guy from FO3 invented. And with Kent Connoly playing those Silver Shroud radio dramas around Boston, where the Mechanist appears as a major character, there are countless Commonwealth Citizens who could have taken up the mantle of the Mechanist.

And judging by the achievements...

The Mechanist is also a villain in the Silver Shroud radio dramas.
