The Men Seem Unproportionate

Post » Tue Mar 18, 2014 4:58 am

I feel like there's one crucial slider missing in char gen.

Namely it is impossible to scale the length of legs and for some reason I get the impression most men have short legs compared to their torsos. Whether that is true or not I would have very much liked to give my male(and even female) characters longer legs in relation to the length of their torso.

I found it odd that you can scale feet size that's barely visible and merely seems to make your hands / feet a little thicker rather than longer. What is the point of such a small feature when something that seems more important is missing?

I'm just wondering if anybody else felt like the legs were a bit on the short side.

Tbh half of the sliders seem pointless as they barely make a change from min to max.

To be honest, it never really occurred to me; and I have a degree in anatomy and physiology, so I'm probably more critical on these things than most. That being said, your whole body proportions scale with your height slider, so it's not a huge problem for me.

At first I thought you were going to comment on there being no.. "endowment" slider for men, as women have one for their "assets".

I understand. But notice I said the length of legs in relation to the length of the torso. If you use the height slider it doesn't really change proportions in relation to each-other, it just scales the character.

Then again it is odd I'd find them short while you don't, given that you allegedly have a degree. Of course it might just be that people have different proportions and in case of ESO races I just don't find them as appealing as they could have been if there were more options. A matter of personal taste, basically.

Very much this. I tried them at minimum and maximum and the differences between the two 'extremes' (I use the term loosely, lol) are minimal even when you're watching the adjustments happen.

I'm not at all insinuating everyone has the same leg measurements in relation to their torso, but something to take into account; they probably restricted arm and leg length for animating purposes. At the moment, if you /scratch your head in-game, it all measures up. If they allowed people to increase the length of their arms for example, they would have to make a new set of animations for each point in the slider; to stop peoples arms clipping through their heads.

The same might be said for mounting horses, clapping, dancing or general combat animations. I'm almost certain this would have been the reason behind the limitation.

Yup the legs seem off, noticed that as well, if you make them more bulky you can notice it more...scaling the hight of the character doesn't seem to affect the legs much. Same goes for the fingers and hands, proportions seem a bit off...but it might only be the perspective from the viewing point, still it seems a bit wierd.

Maybe you should get a refund, it's painfully obvious the character modelling is not up to scratch. The sliders are not enough either.

Those long leg men, happily married and walking everywhere much faster than proportionate men. I envy them and their superior gate.

Silt-strider for next playable race 2015

If you think a big rush of the opposing alliance coming over the hills is intense - how about silt striders, Orson Welles style?

I believe this is because of the art assets. All of the characters wear the same armor. It is possible to scale the armor up or down as a whole, to fit character size. But you can only stretch part of the armor(not whole) so much before it starts looking weird in relation to the non-stretched part. So you can change the size of feet(minor stretching) but not length of legs(major stretching).

In this case I'd like an endowment for women as well. Because... reasons and errr... equality.

That might be true. But Neverwinter Online has a pretty good leg length slider and it doesnt' seem to interfere. Granted, ESO has many more animations from what I've seen though...

Why do all the races look the same in this game. I mean their bodies. They all look like an ordinary human.

Where a the halflings and dwarfs at??

And I know this is how the ESO world is supposed to be but they are WRONG!!
