Chapter 1

The morning sun beat down on the port city of Senchal. S'Kavir stood on the balcony of his villa looking out over sea. He was clad in a white shawl and budi with tan linen pants and sandals, his cream coloured fur shining brightly. A curved dagger hung from his hip in a jewel encrusted scabbard. He told those he did know that it was for display, but others knew better.

"Lord S'Kavir" a small voice called from behind him, S'Kavir turned to face a small Khajiit boy with wide eyes and a small mane. "Lord Ja'Ranaar and Lord Ya'Tenel have finished picking men for your crew. They wish for you to come down to the port at mid afternoon to see the crew for yourself."

S'Kavir smiled at the boy at patted him on the head, "Thank you A'Ranell, go back to them and tell them I will be there. " The young Khajiit boy scurried off and left S'Kavir to enjoy the peace of his villa.

By afternoon S'Kavir was walking down the docks to his boat, The Maiden. S'Kavir arrived to find thirty Khajiit lined up beside the ship. "I see that you two have been busy." He said to the two Khajiit standing in front of the line. The two turned and smiled at S'Kavir.

Ja'Ranaar was the tallest of the three Khajiit with pale white fur with black spots and a thick mane. He wore a yellow shawl and white budi with a white pants and pigskin shoes. The other, Ya'Tenel, had tan coloured fur and small, dark eyes and braided hair. He wore a tan shawl and budi with black pants and sandals.

"It is good to see you S'Kavir," Ja'Ranaar said

"Likewise," S'Kavir replied.
"Well to get down to business," Ya'Tenel gestured to the Khajiit lined up beside The Maiden, "These are the finest sailors that we could find in Senchel. Every one of them have much experience at sea and are highly skilled."

S'Kavir scanned over them shortly then turned to Ya'Tenel and Ja'Ranaar. "I don't believe I need to ask them any questions. I trust your judgment." The two of them smiled at S'Kavir.
"Well then I believe that we should set sail tomorrow at dawn." Ja'Ranaar said.

"Good, I shall prepare tonight. I will see you two tomorrow." With that S'Kavir turned on his heel and walked back to his villa.

S'Kavir had made it half way back to his villa when he became aware that he had a follower. He dared not turn around for risk of scaring the man away and giving him another chance to get him. Instead S'Kavir led him into the bazaar where the streets were littered with different stalls of merchants.

S'Kavir elbowed his way through the crowd to a stall selling different types of dishes and silverware. He picked one up and held it up to his face as if examining the quality of it. He was able to see the reflection of the follower on the dish.

The man was an Imperial with long dark hair and a thick beard wearing a long brown cloak over a simple tunic. Two daggers hung at his side.
S'Kavir put down the dish and walked away. The Imperial followed.

He led him to a narrow alley with no one in it. S'Kavir could hear the man's footsteps getting closer and becoming more insistent. S'Kavir could hear the faint sound of a dagger sliding out of a leather scabbard. He stopped and spun, his own dagger flashing in his hand.

The assassin sprung forward and S'Kavir leapt in to meet him. He dodged the attacker's thrust and rammed his shoulder into the Imperial's chest. The man stumbled backwards but managed to keep his footing. But it was too late. S'Kavir lunged forward and plunged his dagger deep into his heart. The Imperial collapsed without a word and died.

S'Kavir wiped the blood from his dagger on the dead Imperial's shirt and walked away.

The beginning is very promising. The detail of the dressing is not bothering me at all. Yet you tell too little about your main character. All we know is that he is rich yet somehow skilled with a knife/dagger/sword.

Also: killing the assassin in such a way would be bad business. If your Khajiit is so good, he could disable the assassin and question him. Now he doesn't know who or why sent him to kill him.

S'Kavir knows why the assassin was sent, how he does will be revealed later.

More information will be revealed about S'Kavir as the story progresses. I just didn't want the reader to know everything about him right off the bat. I want it to be a mystery for a few chapters before revealing it all.

Chapter 2

S'Kavir stood at the helm The Maiden, one hand on the wheel, the other on the pommel of the scimitar at his side. All around him his sailors scurried to prepare the boat so that they could set sail before the sun was highest in the sky.

S'Kavir looked to the docks to see a sailor embracing his wife lovingly. S'Kavir had never had that pleasure in life. He had never loved another woman as that sailor did. He promised himself only to marry when he was sure that the woman was the one that he would love for his entire life. As of yet he had not found that woman.

The sailor turned to his daughter and tousled her hair and smiled as she hugged his leg. "My lord," Ja'Ranaar's voice interrupted his thoughts and returned him to the task at hand.

"Yes Ja'Ranaar."

"Preparations are almost complete. We are loading the last of the cargo then we may set sail." The Khajiit lowered his voice, "I heard that another one attacked you yesterday." S'Kavir nodded; Ja'Ranaar uttered a curse under his breath. "They are sending more and more every day. I did not think that they want you dead this badly."

"Well at least I will be safe enough out at sea. The worst that can happen is if pirates attack, but we are well equipped and will be able to fend them off."

"While we are in Anvil you should take an escort with you wherever you go." Ja'Ranaar suggested

"Perhaps you are right Ja'Ranaar. I will find one our men to do the job before we reach Anvil."

"Good." He said with a smile, "I must get back to the preparations though." He watched Ja'Ranaar make his way below deck and soon after the hatch was shut S'Kavir was able to hear Ja'Ranaar below commands.

The figure of Ya'Tenel appeared beside him, "Good morning Ya'Tenel." He said as the Khajiit bowed his head.

"Good morning to you as well Lord S'Kavir. I just wanted to let you know that the special cargo is aboard and stowed away safely." S'Kavir nodded.

"Take me to it." Ya'Tenel nodded and led him down to his quarters. S'Kavir shut the door firmly as Ya'Tenel crossed the room and pried off a piece of the wall to show a secret compartment. In it were dozens of small bottles filled with skooma and moon sugar.

Ya'Tenel then went to move his bed aside. Once it was moved he again pried a piece of the floor out and revealed doznes more bottles of skooma and moon sugar. He moved aside as S'Kavir plucked a bottle from the hidden compartment and inspected it himself.

"Good." He said as he put it back amongst the rest of the bottles. "I assume that you've already hid the rest in my room in the usual spots." Ya'Tenel nodded.

"It is high quality skooma my lord," Ya'Tenel said as he covered them back up, "They will bring in a good profit along with our other wares."

"I'm sure they will. Dro'Baad has never sold a bad batch of skooma in his life; after all he's got to keep the money coming in to pay off the various loan sharks he knows." A knock came on the door.

"Lord S'Kavir, the last of the cargo has been loaded. We are ready to sail when you are."

"Well then, shall we?" S'Kavir said,

"Aye, let's get away from this damned port."
