I need repetitive sounding droning catchy black metal recommends.

Something in the vein of Drudkh and newer Burzum.

EDIT: Also, is it just me, or is that new BG material kind of meh?

I wouldn't post your email address online if I were you. Unless you like spam, anyway...

Isn't it Proscriptor who drums for Absu? His work on Sphynx by Melechesh is freakin' sweet.

I dont mind spam I just click delete, no biggy. Meet cool people that way though.

Anyway yes it is Prospector drumming in Absu in that clip, and yes he is pretty friggin sweet.

Another Sweet and underrated Drummer: Mastodon's Brann Dailor

I love Slipknot too, but Brann is a better drummer and should get the credit.

I'm not particularly big on Mastodon for their drumming, he seems to be fairly overrated. But then, I don't generally care about drumming at all, Proscriptor is a rare exception.

Elite Drummers:
Mike Portnoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBnK7fC4yj0
Neil Peart: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEVrN9SdRuk

Tough to find better than those two guys. Tough to find people from the same planet as those guys.

Morbid Saint isn't really "little known" these days, your about 5 or 6 years too late for to call them that. They blew up randomly in about 2004 or 2005, suddenly and without warning. They also have a second album, Destruction System, that was unreleased. It can be heard on the Keltic Records re-issue of Spectrum of Death (I'm not sure why MA calls it a demo, it was not a demo...).

Aura Noir was always slightly overrated, though they are pretty good I agree. Nocturnal Breed or Occult was where it was at as far as 90's black/thrash. Devastator is where it's at now...

Nargaroth is a joke. Awful stuff. On top of being entirely mediocre, did you know the guy behind the band claimed he started releasing album in the 80's but wasn't even old enough to have done so...the first Nargaroth tape showed up in 1997, he then lied about being in contact with the Black Circle and several other well known black metal groups to try to build scene cred. Sort of lame if you ask me.

If you like Proscriptor, check his first band Magus, killer doom/death/grind stuff. They have an discography called Ruminations of Debauchery that isn't too hard to find at all. It's his best stuff in my opinion.

Brann's drumming was best in Today is the Day. Mastodon has been terrible to me since right after Remission.

If you think MP is tough to please, you've never had to deal with me before...haha. :P

Kanwulf is a complete tool I agree, but I still dig some Nargaroth.

For best Black Metal song and video. Its Mother North from Early Satyricon (when they were playing traditional black metal. I like the new stuff too.)
Id link it but it contains every blasphomous act on gods green earth, and would get me banned so fast.

For current Black Metal I really dig Behemoth but again I cant post the video for Ov Fire and the Void due to content.

Fallen Angel of Doom is the best black metal song/album of all time...nothing will convince me otherwise.

Nargaroth is pretty much a a low rent Judas Iscariot to me...and the guy behind JI is a lot less of a toolbox.

I can't stand Behemoth.

The best new black metal act of the last 10 years is Black Witchery. Absolutely devastating stuff.

Pretty sure most people here have listened to Mother North and seen the video as well. Same goes for Behemoth, probably. And yes, I really like them both. Dark Medieval Times is one of my most nostalgic songs, and I still love it.

I youtubed Fallen Angel... It has a vocal style that Im not into, but people say that about my taste in Death Metal. (CHRIS BARNES)

Mother North is my pick for best Black Metal representation. It contains the old style and pretty much all the imagery and atmosphere that Black Metal is all about, and its insanely over the top which is always good. If you havent seen it, go check it out.

Im just happy to not be the only guy around that has heard of Black Metal. Im with my brothers and Im happy...

On a slight change of Topic I love Amon Amarth.

Also I have seen Otep live and they are incredible. I got to meet Otep Shamaya and the rest of the band and yes I have proof of it.
They really should be bigger than they are IMO.

I'm not tough to please, I just don't give a [censored] about drums most of the time. And Mike Portnoy is awful. Just like the rest of Dream Theater.

Neil Peart is cool, but if I had to choose between the three classic drummers of that era (Peart, Ginger Baker and John Bonham) I'd have to be a rebel and pick the underrated one: Bill Ward.

R'lyeh, I always thought Nargaroth was a joke, hence Kanwulf's blatantly absurd claims... Anyway, I agree that they're pretty [censored] but I kinda like the title track from that album.

EDIT: Btw, dude, everyone's seen Mother North...

I like Dream Theatre in small doses, but I have to acknowledge that Portnoy has chops thats all.

Ill never get upset over somebody picking Bill Ward. Sabbath is as big as they are for a reason, they were the best and still are and nothing is heavier than Master of Reality.

As far as I know, Kanwulf was at one time trying to pass Nargaroth as serious. If it's a joke now, it's because no one takes him or his crap band seriously.

I don't enjoy the Norwegian black metal stuff from the early 90's...it's all incredibly generic when compared to one another, and it's just not my thing. I prefer the earlier stuff from the US, Canada, and Greece.

Don't like Amon Amarth, really cheesy, and way too melodic.

I'm not going to touch Otep, except to say that I don't think they should be discussed here. They're pretty much nu-metal, which is against the topic rules.

NO WAY, and come on with that. Please dont be one of those purest types. I love Sabbath, Maiden, Slayer, ect. I know my metal history and influences, but the hatred that seams to come up against the nu-metal movement really bothers me. Metal to me is a brotherhood and Slipknot's debut and IOWA are heavy as hell. I loved Disturb's The Sickness and System of a Down is incredible too. Korn was alright up untill recently I just dont like where they have gone.

At any rate Otep isnt really a nu-metal band. They have a pretty unique thing going on, they are bringing more ladies to metal shows which is always a plus in my book, and Otep herself is a hell of poet and singer as well as incredible eye candy.

Metal to me is about a subgroup of people that just do not match the status quo, the younger fans (hell Im only 22) like the nu-metal and I think we should accept them into the family rather than treat them poorly and push them away.

It's not about being purists/elitists/whatever, it's just that bands like that and around that genre aren't allowed to be discussed here. I love Slipknot and SOAD myself, but I know that this thread just isn't meant for that specific type of metal. And wow, I've never really bothered listening to Absu (not sure why), but after that link you posted I'm really loving them right now. Didn't know they were so Melechesh-ish. Guess it makes sense with their drummer being in both bands, also pretty cool that he's the vocalist as well.

There's no way that the nu-metal is going to be allowed to be discussed here. It derails the topic and leads to arguing. I was just pointing out the thread rules.

As far as Otep being debatable, maybe, I've only heard a few things, and it was poor and nu-metalish to me. I guess we can see what other regulars feel. I'm not trying to bust your balls, just making sure the thread doesn't get derailed with arguments about nu-metal. I like lots of stuff that can't be discussed here, and I'm sure a lot of the regulars do to.

OK I wont talk about nu-metal anymore, I just wish there wasn't such a rift over it. Id rather people listen to it than that crap on the radio. Lady Gaga and that song by somebody else Blah Blah or something, good lord I hate it. Just want more union in the metal community. Ill say no more about it.

Otep has pretty diverse material. You have to about listen to a whole CD to get what they are all about because they really arent pigeon-holed at all. They touch on all kinds of topics, political and personal. Heres a short set of songs to show off the diversity:

The Ambient and Bizarrely creepy "Autopsy Song":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av5Uu3zD5qE

The Radio Friendly but Very Cool "Perfectly Flawed"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej4uAtX7SCE

The Heavy as Hell "Warhead"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfLnDUPmP4s

The Newly Released and Politically charged "Rise Rebel Resist"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2x3y7fwmaFQ&feature=avmsc2

Otep is a pretty diverse band and they do something diferent on every album and the grow. Also its nice to have a heavy female singer as opposed to somebody like Tarja Turunen (nothing wrong with that either).

Can I ask what about Blasphemy's vocals turned you off?

Well Im not sure how to put words to it without sounding like Im closed off.

I like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qcmgD8pHRc
and this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fE8EMWxuZB0
and
I like the cackling witch style vocals of most black metal bands

I found the vocals in Blasphemy to be more like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdI7Ya0GiXg
or more like what you see in really extreme forms of grindcore, which Im not so much into.

There is nothing wrong with them, just not my flavor.

Edit: did some research, and what I "think" is that Im not a fan of pitch shifted vocals, which is what makes those incredibly low droning roars. I dont know if Blasphemy is using them or if Im talking out the wrong end, but I at least tried to find the objective reason I dont like it.

Well to me, "the metal community" doesn't include non-metal stuff.

And I love Lady Gaga.

I really don't get why people love Satyricon though, "Mother North" is passable, but I definitely don't go out of my way to listen to it (Didn't even know there was a video). The rest bores me to tears.

Also; I wouldn't have even considered calling Behemoth "Black metal", I've always thought of them as death metal, and sub-par at that. But then what do I know, I don't listen to a lot of bands.
