The Mirelurk queen is a wussy.

So yesterday I decided to finally retake the castle with my unarmed roleplay char on Survival difficulty.

I waited till level 31, since melee has some defensive deficiencies compared to ranged.

The first MQ I ever encountered was with a ranged character, actually my first created character.

It was at level 16 I wore PA, used a nuke, two missiles and several broadsider shots.

I died a few times t the acid spit, which on SUrvival just melts you, if you get hit for longer than 2 secs.

So I decided to play it safe with the unarmed and also hunted for Calmex, which I never got a single one and a better Deathclaw Gauntlet with legendary mod, which I also didn't get.

I haven't got the last perkpoint in Unarmed perk yet and I haven't got 10x Sneak multiplier, just 5 from Ninja.

So I popped a stealth boy, snuck up to it and basically took every drug in the book except Calmex, I also ate lot's of food with AP boost and then some to prepare for damage regen.

Only, that all of it was unnecessary, the Queen died in one hit. :(

Here a link, if you wanna skip to the actual kill, it's around 3:30:

I wonder, whether the DC gauntlet ignores Armor, or I just got a random crit combined with the sneak attack.

Oh, good to know, that's pretty [censored].

Do you know, whether the DC gauntlet has any hidden effects, higher crit chance and Armor Ignore?

The ol DC gauntlet used to have it and I'm surprised how easy that queen died.

Fair enough, it just seems interesting to me, that I seem to have a lot of crits lately.

I have low luck and can't even bank crits, but you only realize you get one if you're out of V.A.T.S, since either a message pops up that you scored a crit or you get a kill animation.

Wrong, you can upgrade it and it'll get a larger increase chance of disarm, and staggers. + Legendary affix (ignore armor, increased damage, etc.) makes the DC gauntlet do huge amount of damage with with little resistance from the enemy.

Similar experience really. First time I only killed it by running into the houses near the castle and sniping round corners.

Later on, I had a melee build with blitz and ninja and big leagues. I got a sneak attack from max blitz range and like you say, one shot was all it took.

My latest build isn't quite there yet. He went the tradition three-mini-nuke approach.

Haha nice, I did exactly the same first time.^^

I meant hidden effects, it's quite hard to get a dc gauntlet as legendary drop, at least around level 30.

And I killed almost all dcs outside the glowing sea and 2 inside. :(

I don't understand. You did just about everything possible to maximize your damage. Are you complaining that it worked?

Yes it does, all melee weapons have a staggering threshold that causes some, if not all, enemies to stagger back when hit upon. I think the only exception is robots, I believe.

I think the complaint is "it worked too well." The OP was expecting an epic battle... and instead got an http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AnticlimixBoss.

Yes, I wouldn't have eaten all the food with AP boost if I expected 1 hit to kill.

Tbf I just realised, that the mirelurk queen's energy resistance is higher than ballistic, so the first approach I, and obviously others had, to shoot her with missiles and nukes isn't ideal since those do energy damage.

But still to ballistic damage she has 150 resistance and 1k hp.^^

Yes it can be quite intimidating at lower levels but by the time you get to higher levels a vampiric bloodbug would probably be a bigger challenge.

Th mirelurk queen is slow and cumbersome and you can easily melee it with a combat knife, while the blood bugs are quick and dart around and run away and it's quite easy to swing at them and have an airy.

Personally the ones I avoid getting too close to, when not wearing armour, are the Deathskull Radscorpions.

They have this habit of dematerialising and then rematerialising right next to you whilst doing tag team with their poisonous buddies.

After a while you look forward to coming across a queen because you know it will be an easy kill and the cooked steaks are quite nourishing.

Yum, seafood.

I haven't even encountered these Deathskulls yet.^^

But since I always use Jet I might have lkess trouble with swarming enemies.
