Is the Morrowind Community Dying? Will we die?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:45 am

to make a strong point, oblivion was dead before they realeased it lol

it was a joke , i dont care if it has better graphic's. wtf are people on these days to assume we as a consumer giver a crap about a better looking game without substance? just a thought.

FYI SWG, my post you mention me being rude about your mod not working, sorry guy. I do actually like your stuff so i do apologize if i came off rude.

No offense was or is taken, I am used to people who talk or say things like what you said, and am not hasty in my judgments. In other words, no harm done, right?

Hey, hey, hey, no need to start bashing the OB modding community. They have worked miracles to add content to TESIV to make it leagues better and more enjoyable than the vanilla experience.

Tamriel Rebuilt and Province: Cyrodiil will both include lots of quests, and huge lands to explore, do those count? :P

I said aren't many, not none. ;)

TR is actually a very interesting mod, I remember that when it first started a lot of people thought that it would never see the light of day, now there are two releases of it with much more expected.

:shakehead: Now, there's a real voice of experience talking there.
Sure, played straight from the box it's flaws are obvious and many, but properly modded it can be quite the game. And these mods are available. ^_^ Have you seriously tried to mod the game to fix your dislikes?
It's funny that after a very few short months the Fallout3 forum has less posts per day than Oblivion's, which I think shows it's community, like Morrowind's is far from fading.
What you will see is the casual gamer who finds it on the shelf at $15 in his local Wallmart playing for a few weeks, making a rush of mostly nonsensical posts, and then vanishing never to be heard of again when the novelty wears off.
You'll find the real fans of TES games are usually long time lurkers or members that will normally take that one extra step in helping someone track down a problem, extend a helping hand or quiet word of advice.
That's one of the other magnets of this forum and game over any other I can mention.

All of us are dying, no?
For me Morrowind its a top of his kind of games. A representative of a form to do and play games. A time when people can read fantastic literature and take time to immerse in a game. This way of play games its dead imho, not morrowind.
The classic art its dead? No. All of us can joy and react in front of every piece of art from the pass. Morrowind in his way its a piece of art.

To paraphrase a Rowan Atkinson sketch...

Dead but not forgotten. A lot better than being forgotten and not dead!

I think when it finally does give up the ghost MW will be like the first part. That would seem to be a fair way in the future though. I also wouldn't say I've noted any great drop off in activity here. Maybe a few less mod release threads but the quality of the stuff kicking around now more than makes up for that. People are generally friendly and helpful here too, is a good atmosphere.

In the past few days, it's been more active here than I can ever remember it being.

By who's standards? Yours? Others would disagree but I digress.

Morrowind modding will live on as long as there are those who want to make them and those that want to use them. Is the community dead? Not by a long shot and those that say otherwise need to get off of their high horse and either enjoy the many great (and popular) mods that are still coming out or go play something else and let those of us who still enjoy this game to continue to do so in peace.

The modders/fans of Morrowind are a devoted and hardy folk. Though I was unable to be a part of this community when it first began years ago, the people around here are some of the most talented and insightful people I know. Morrowind is a timeless game, and so I believe it will be around for many years to come. Perhaps by TES VI or so, it will dwindle as many abandon the game to mod the newer chapters in the series, but I don't see an "end" anytime soon.

People asked this in 06 when Oblivion was released and I'll say the same thing as I did back then... "It's silly. It's exactly like saying the PC is a dying game platform. It's been going on for 20 years, that doesn't stop it from thriving. Even if the faces change... the game and new modders emerging will remain the same".

Ahh humor. Really cheers me up sometimes. Thanks guys, I needed it.

EDIT:

Now that's an interesting way of thinking, it's good to see someone completely agree with me to a point though, everyone else thinks it will die eventually.

You sure about that?

Your poll tally shows "The Morrowind community isn't dying, and won't ever die. [ 80 ] ** [73.39%]"

Looks to me like it's a typical misunderstanding. The loudest, most well written voices of descent are not always the majority.

Yes, I am, people are voting that because it's the closest option I've got on there to "Morrowind isn't dying, but will, eventually.".

At least that's what I think.

EDIT: People may vote that, but you can't get people's opinions by just a poll, you have to read the entire thread, and since it's my thread, I've been following it since I started when I got up earlier today.
