Is the Morrowind Patch Project Still Relevant?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 9:38 am

I've just decided to completely remod Morrowind from scratch. I've installed v1.9 of the Morrowind Code Patch. The next step from my old list was to install the Morrowind Patch Project, but the page is gone from PES and the latest version (according to a search of this forum) seems to be v1.6.5b from 2009. Is this patch no longer relevant? Are there any other patches I should be considering?

Short answer: Yes, very relevant. If you look throught the thread you will see a few fixes that were suggested to be integrated that weren't included in the patch. Hope this helps.

So does everyone use 1.6.5beta? I'm using that with some fixes BTB made to it.

Or is it standard to use 1.6.4?

Or should one use both??

Definitely not both. As long as you aren't having any issues with 1.6.5, as it is a beta, then I would go with that. (I do and it's hasn't caused any problems for me.)

I use the version that BTB fixed. Even if it's just two fixes, better safe than sorry.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure quorn is now officially working a new version of the MPP.

If you are right, this is good news. I wouldn't mind updating my good ol' 1.6.4 for a non-beta version of the 1.6.5.

here's the quote from quorn, from the MPP thread......

After some thought, I decided to remove the majority of naming consistency changes from the project. After some discussion, I came to the conclusion that naming conventions consistently isn't a bug fix per se, so I will be reverting the majority of those changes. I plan on having the MPP 1.6.5 be cleaned of perceived personal preferences. :\

When I resume development on MPP 2.0, I'll start a new thread which will go into further depth to discuss and review fixes. I have some interesting ideas to help facilitate too, I'll keep everyone posted. ^_^

Looks like he's making plans for an update.

Oh, it's a pretty recent post too. Thanks for the information, Pluto.
He's even planning on removing the names editing I didn't like. :)

OK, I found it on BTB's site: http://btb2.free.fr/morrowind.html

Are any of you using "BTB's Game Improvements", also?

I use the Alchemy and Character parts.

IMO,
The character plugin really makes each race more unique and fun to play. Can't talk about the birthsigns though, since I chopped that off the mod.
The Alchemy plugin brings some variety to the ingredients effects and replace the ultra abusable Fortify Intelligence/Luck for new useful effects.

Also, the author is extremely quick to deal with bugs. Overall, I highly recommend those.

Ive decided to reinstall multiple versions of modded morrowinds to see which versions id most like to play. i have an original MORROWIND directory that i keep as a backup, BTB's list Directory(from his compatible mods list), an "other" for some of my older saved mods(have a disc with around 40 or so that i still have to go through), and an Enhanced directory for the main MWE version. Seeing how its bn like 5 or so years since i last played and how there also seems to be no end to the amount of mods out there, u cn understand if im feeling a bit overwhelmed by finding exactly what i need to get these versions properly filled out. btbs isnt giving me any problems and i should have that done by tonight (unless darknut actually did finish his better clothes update and i just cant find the whole thing). Oh and i added another from bethesda's new 2011 modded morrowind found on fileplanet. will get to that one eventually. what i specifically need help on is locating and downloading the latest *compatible* mods for the BETTERs and the ENHANCED. whenever i finish those and test to see what theyre lacking 4 me, ill see about adding land masses and extra content. i tried to look at the landmass map for compatibility problems but the link i used didnt work. if anyone needs any of the mods i still have (some are pretty old) give me a word up and ill see what i can dredge up. *got lotsa astarsis replaces. any word on which textures and/or meshes replacers are more superior would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, for those of u (theres bound to be at least 1) who think im bein too lazy and wanna get everyone else to do the work 4 me, im gonna nip this 1 in the bud: i only get like an hour or two online a day (if that) and i just wanna play one of my favorite games for the measly amt of time per day that i have w/o spending half my life jumping from site to site to site downloading, installing, replacing, uninstalling, forgetting which ones i actually replaced, cursing foully, etc, and repeat just to not enjoy what all the effort was wasted on. besides, you dont have to help if u dont wanna.

any help would be appreciated and returned if applicable.

@0xym0r0n1c:

Then, to be the most time efficient, you should visit the graphic section of http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1155980-povuholos-tomorrowind-a-mod-recommendations-list-for-today/. There you will find all you need and more, if you want more.
Learning to install mods with Wrye Mash's BAIN could also allow you to add/remove mods painlessly. (I wish I did. >.< )
The last point is only my opinion, but I think focusing on 1 or 2 installation would be less of a headache.

And you don't need to be on the defence, no one is gonna flame you for asking for mod suggestions. We're all Morrowind players here, after all.

Thanks for the pointer to that. I had forgotten whose/which thread that was.

I also get only a few hours a day to play around with games. Last time I heavily modded Morrowind (a year ago) it took me three months of long days, but it was the first time I had done it so I didn't really know what I was doing. This time, who knows? But I have as much fun playing around with mods as I do playing the game, so it doesn't matter. :)
