The Dwemer. They are [censored] fascinating. I really admire just about everything the Dwemer did and, if they were still around, I'd be playing as them as my primary race. It's a shame Kagrenac did what he did and the entire race got punished for it. It was clear that the Dwemer people were very divided on the issue of whether or not to use his tools on the Heart, yet everyone got punished. I suppose that's probably an indication that Kagrenac intended to use the Heart to make all Dwemer into gods. That was the only thing the Dwemer did that I disagreed with. Mortals don't need gods to worship when they could be striving for godhood themselves, but they should not have tried to steal godhood.

I could on and on. The Dwemer are endlessly fascinating to me. I'm really excited that their ruins--and also Numidium and thus more lore--will be in Skyrim.

I like the Nords, mostly because I am scandinavian, and I guess I feel related to them somehow (their viking...ish (?) culture).

Seeing how the Dunmer are the most fleshed out race in terms of culture, religion, beliefs etc. I believe they are. The Dunmer will rise again!

Chimer.

They must've been pretty beastly back in the day, if Nerevar and his crew are any indication.

The Sload are southwest of Tamriel, or I'd have voted for them.

I like the Imperials the most. Their leadership is great and looks god enough. They're the most human out of the bunch so I'll go with them for that reason also.

Redguard. You simply cannot mess with a race which is responsible for the megaton shotblast of their very own equivalent of nuclear bombs, the Pankratosword. The WMD of the TES-universe.

Long live the people who rose up from slaves to become the conquerors of Tamriel!

I have to give the Dunmer a mention just because they're so badass, although most of that is because they've had the privilege of having a game set in their home province. I think the Bretons are also worthy of mention - an audacious lot at heart, true adventurers. Masters of the Direnni West and for all intents and purposes the true "generic white people" race of Tamriel!

Add Sload and Maormer.
I think Dwemer are pretty cool.

I don't think there is a "generic white person" race...
Imperial: Romans
Bretons: French (look at their names/accents)
Nords: Scandinavians
Redguard: Africans (kinda, but not really since their names don't sound african, and they're red.)

While all the races have their interest, I've gotta go with the Khajiit. Pretty much everything about them appeals to me. Firstly. they're cat-people. KITTIES. How adorable is that? Secondly, I like the various idiosyncrasies of their culture. Their rudimentary concept of property ownership being the reason for their being branded as prone to theft. But then, they kind of live up to it too. They've got that feline "everything is mine" attitude to them. They're near the bottom of the social ladder, but they thrive there, in their way. Very Chaotic Neutral, my favorite alignment. Their language and way of speaking is cool too. It sounds like a mix of middle eastern and spanish. Makes me think of south american gangsters. Just once I want to hear a Khajiit say "I'll cut you, mang". XD
I've read a bunch of the in-game books, and it looks like they're the indigenous lifeforms of Nirn, while the rest of the races came from somewhere else. Ehlnofey and Hist gave rise to the various humans, elves, and Argonians, while the Khajiit seem to have always been skulking around, at most mixed with elf stock along the line somewhere. I'm really hoping Bethesda does something a bit more with them t some point.
