Who would you consider to be the most famous person in your world...

...right now? and ...of all time?

My Parents and my Girlfriend.

For the masses, I would say that Michael Jackson was the most famous person in his peak performance years. Although now, with the Internet, we just have lots of people who are famous for the wrong reasons. Then we have that family in California who is famous for reasons I can't begin to fathom. I won't mention their name as I am sure the Momager of the Clan has a Search Bot that shows hits on their name.

Assuming people alive today, Stephen Hawking is the first who comes to mind. That's fairly random, though.

Famous means most well known by others, so even in "my" world, it's obviously not going to be me or someone I know personally. But there are probably a dozen people I could think of that everyone I know knows. Michael Jackson, Osama Bin Laden, Barack Obama, George Bush, Jesus Christ, Shahrukh Khan, Justin Beiber... Just to name a few.

Who is the most famous person in the world? As in, living right now? I'd say either Obama, George Bush, Justin Beiber or Shahrukh Khan.

I'm surprised no one mentioned http://cdn.thewire.com/media/old_wire/img/upload/2013/08/01/The-Most-Interesting-Man-in-the-World/lead_large.jpg . He is the most interesting man in the world.

Good Lord! Michael Jackson didn't even come close to the kind of fame that The Beatles experienced. It's kind of sad that you would equate some minor pop star as the most famous person ever. He'll be nothing but a faded memory in a few years, yet people like Jesus, Einstein, Copernicus, Leonardo Da Vinci, Mozart etc. will still be fresh in people's minds for generations to come.

No one. I honestly don't have the data to say who in the world would be the most famous.

Most famous of all time would be one of the religious icons, Jesus, Muhammad, Budda, etc.

Most famous person alive would either be the Pope of the Dhali Lama.

Michael Jackson is probably the most talented musician we ever had so far...

I can agree that Michael Jackson isn't as famous as The Beatles but I disagree that he is "minor"... He is definably one the most talented musician we had so far... It's a shame that he died early than he should've...

I wouldn't say he's the most talented musician by a long shot, but he did sort of create a completely unique dance style. He had a unique voice and danced well, but he was a pop star at the end of the day. Lyrics had little to no depth and beats were repetitive (pretty sure he wasn't even the one producing them)

I will agree however that he's far from minor. His concerts attracted masses and he has a statue. He's also an influence and idol to current pop megastars.

Jesus is probably the most famous of all time.

Today would depend on the mega populations of China and India. If they don't know about them then they aren't famous enough. So I am going to have to say Obama or the Pope.

Also for music people I would think Elvis would be the most famous.

Actually, a lot of his songs have some interesting meanings to it... At least the ones I know. (I don't know all of his songs, mind you).

But reason why I say he is one of the most talented... Well, in recent year (2014 or late 2013. Don't know when exactly), they actually shared some of his original files and I found this interesting... When he submits a small "taste" of a song, he doesn't play the instruments... He literally sings each instrument note by note to give the studio an idea how the song would go! And I mean highly accurate too (note wise) and it's like... Who can literally do that these days? I mean seriously, not only sing the song itself but also sing each instrument? I find that very interesting and highly skilled...

~Edit~

Quick google and found http://www.kingsofar.com/2014/04/03/michael-jacksons-a-cappella-demo-for-beat-it-is-the-ultimate-proof-he-was-a-genius/. (Posted April 3rd, 2014 apparently). Hadn't loaded it myself yet due to dial-up's slowness though.

You can't be serious! Mozart makes him look like a toddler playing with his mother's pots and pans in the kitchen. Even Paul McCartney has more talent in his baby finger than Jackson did in his whole body. And there are plenty of other musicians, living and dead, that are much better than he ever was. Jackson was just good at marketing himself in order to get himself into the spotlight, like Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber today.

So what. Marilyn Monroe did the same, but that didn't make her a great actress. She was famous strictly because of her six appeal, not for being a brilliant talent.

Yes, in how to market themselves.

I think if you understood the song writing process, you'd find that most artists can do that. I know I can, or at least I used to be able to. I haven't written anything for awhile though. Beethoven was able to compose full symphonies even after he became deaf, simply by hearing everything in his head. Being able to hear various parts in your head and translate them is a normal part of the creative process.

I would think Jesus Christ has the highest name recognition value all time. Qualifying with 'alive today' I would have to guess that Barrack Obama has higher name recognition worldwide than anyone else.

The guy creates music over night and will sing every note of every instrument in the studio the next day to the people who will be playing the instrument, even telling them what notes on the instrument to play... He just couldn't play the instruments himself.

Seriously, read the article I linked earlier. I don't wish to quote it myself but it basically gave a quick insight on how this guy made music and it is just simply amazing...

Michael Jackson was a great artist, but it's very ignorant to call him the "most talented musician we've ever had so far."

So what. As I explained, lots of musicians can do that, it's just part of the song-writing process. Some people are better at it than others, but it's not an unusual talent by any means. As I mentioned, Beethoven wrote whole symphonies in his head even after he could no longer even hear the sounds. And his work was far more complex than anything Jackson managed to come up with. Mozart was composing symphonies by the time he was 5 years old. Jackson's talent paled in comparison to people like that, and history is full of those kinds of examples. Compared to many of those classical composers, Michael Jackson is indeed a minor talent. Even more modern artists compose more complex pieces than he ever did. His music was really quite basic.

I think that honor should go to Beethoven, he became deaf later in life yet he was still able to make great music.

My vote goes to Mozart, the complexity of his music is simply amazing. As far as more modern musicians are concerned, Bruce Cockburn is my hero.
