Yes this was just bothering me today while I played......npcs will call you a dog because you helped invade solitude, then politely answer your question... you walk into the bar in riften and the argonian says he "cant believe you'd show your face around here", then u get into a conversation and he politely tells you about needing jewels to marry his wifey, in which you give to him, then hes so grateful but on leaving the convo he then says "get out of here" with an attitude... if an npc doesnt like you they shoudnt be being polite depending on what dialouge choice you make...for elder scrolls 6 hopefully when an npc is hostile towards you, it will reflect in everything they say to you

i missed the blackhorse couriers. Skyrim should need more newspapers.
Also, i accidentally killed Lisette. Now that littlegirl at the in says 'i hate you forever and ever and ever' everytime i enter that place. It wasnt my fault, she caught me trying to steal a tundra cotton

Agreed.
I dont think I have played a game in ten years where the dialogue irritates me that much as Skyrim's does.
Its not the actual dialogue itself, its he repetition.
Its the fact that you only need level 30 in a skill for guards to make random comments.
Its: I work for Belethor at the general goods store.

The weakest point of the game by far, as the annoyance factor does keep you from playing in the end.

It's definitely the most annoying thing about Skyrim. Heck Oblivion is tame in comparasion to Skyrim in terms of dialoge.

I find it annoying how just standing by a static NPC they will keep talking to you.

Oh god, yes. Trying to concentrate on a complex multipart smithing operation in Whiterun, and the lady blacksmith just has to stand there next to you and repeat every last one of her long monologues, over and over and over and over and.......... yeah.

whenever a guard talks [censored] to me about guilds or my skills, i attack him once and hit maybe a few inncoents to get everyone against me and i use storm call fully maxed, they need to learn to watch what they say to me ^^

I have to agree. Bethesda's story writers are second rate. They have no imagination, no creativeness. My nine year old Granddaughter can tell me a story while making it up as she speaks. I have been playing since November and have yet to play though the main quest. What's the point of playing though the main quest if for one thing you can stand by and watch others do it for you. Moreover, the end reward for accomplishing the main quest is utterly putrid. Oh! But you get to roam Skyrim afterwards. Like it is some big deal. Not! Even fighting the Dragons is stupid and mundane. The only reason I still play it is for the ultimate eye candy. Incidentally, I have never gotten past level 25 before stating a new game.

My current character is a 2H Orc Warrior/Brute type. I've used the bow to kill about 10 enemies so far and I'm already getting the "Favour the bow eh?" comments from guards. *SIGH*

Worse... they follow you into buildings to continue their boring carp...

Even worse, you will be in the middle of some dialogue with someone and an NPC walks in between you and starts commenting to you so you can't hear the person you're talking with.

Yes some of the repetition is annoying. But I don't know if I got a different game or people just like complaining for no reason. In my PS3 version, I am acknowledged as the arch mage in the college, In the thieves guild, and the DB within the factions. The guards comment on my armor (you prefer the leather etc.) Guards say you are that mage from the college etc. You released the dragon...
Not sure if I have magic grits or something. I completely understand that, things like I work for Belathor when you are in the store are annoying etc. But i think some people are just too dramatic on complaints. This game is very complex & alot of random interactions. Name a game that even comes close & does it better.

To add insult to injury: having captions on doesn't help, since the new person's commentary gets displayed in place of the original dialogue.

Oh, and as for frustrating aspects of this thread, I'd have to go with the fact that quoting posts like the one you did shows all the alteration markings, which can make them difficult to read.

I did the Stormcloak side of the civil war, and after that, I got to deliver a potion to one of the deposed Jarls. He started off saying that he hated my guts. Then he thanked me very kindly for delivering the potion and that was that. No real face of hatred for me.

These NPCs aren't even trying to display real signs of being people. Are they even trying by making some people unkillable? Maybe I don't want to be in the Thieves Guild. Maybe I don't want to literally force myself through the Stormcloak side and just want to assassinate Tullius? What kind of legendary choices are you displaying by just making NPCs a bunch of invincible quest givers like some bad MMO?

yeah i would really like it if in the next game if i become the arch mage then i should here some people saying some thing like hey your the new arch mages. or you know what would be really cool is if some one came up to you to attack you but before they did they would start to say some thing to you like give me all your money before i... oh wait your the arch mage i'm sorry don't light me on fire pleas or some thing along those lines.

if i'm the head of the thiefs guild i never want to here any one say some thing like oh your the head of the thiefs guild which i don't think they ever have. the only time i would want to here some thing like that is if say i get cought steeling and the guy or girl run off and tell some one. which could lead to a whole town knowing that your the head of the thiefsa guild.

I agree, the dialog is really starting to make me lose interest in the game, I've only advanced the main quest about 1/2 way.

I don't agree that the repetition is the worst part though, because if it were intelligent dialog I wouldn't mind hearing it often.

ie: I could hear "Hail Stormblade!" from stormcloak guards endlessly, and I wouldn't mind, but if I hear "hands to yourself sneak thief" or "go fiddling with any locks around here and we're going to have a real problem" from a brand new stormcloak guard, when I haven't picked any locks or stolen anything since they've been put into power (BY ME), I just lose interest, its really really lame. I'm killing a hostile altmer conjurer, during the death blow she says in an annoyed voice (like when you run into someone in town) "be careful".

Had to add this one more thing because its so funny (in a lame kind of way). I just got finished killing an entire imperial camp, but I guess the legate was essential because he wouldn't die, although Stormcloak quest line is finished, and I go to steal one of their horses and ride out of there and what happens? 50 bounty for stealing the horse. lmao.

"Skyrim belongs to the Nords!" is one of my favourites, especially when a non-Nordic race says it!
