The most overpowered guns in the game?

Post » Mon Dec 14, 2015 8:34 pm

So I've played the game through 3 times now and each time I had a disgustingly overpowered gun. Each time I would have a short distance back up and also a sniper rifle but these became the main weapon and totally cut through everything. I think this is the main advantage of playing survival, you get some great drops. My brother is playing on normal and doesn't get these drops.

1) Legendary two shot assault gun, two projectiles so double the damage. 190 damage per shot.

2) Mini gun with 25 bleed damage per shot. Not kidding, this thing will kill an entire army. You can send a Legendary super mutant or deathclaw to hell in 2 secs.

3) Submachine gun with 15 exploding AOE damage. Super fast like a mini gun and the AOE means you can kill enemies bunched together. Great against ghouls, shoot them in the legs, even glowing ones go down super fast.

Only downside to weapons 2 and 3 is they eat up a lot of ammo so I can't use them constantly and expensive to maintain because of the ammo cost.

What's the best weapons you've had?

I recently got hold of an "Incendiary Combat Shotgun." Tricked it out with max mods for highest damage at short range (short ported barrel if I recall). Didn't put the suppressor on it this time as I found the quietness unsatisfactory and I _think_ it might have impacted spread. I don't recall what this says for "DMG" but I can tell you, I its predecessor was a comparably modded non-legendary and it said "150." The +15 fire is just bonus; most of the effect comes from mods, and Rifleman perks.

I am level 45 and have highest level Rifleman, but that thing just eats bad guys. I blasted some Legendary Alpha Deathclaw muckity muck to bits, not even in VATS as he was charging me (granted I had already taken his health down by a 3rd by sniping from a distance). He managed to get one swipe. I probably fired 8 shots and got good hits with 4.

Still, a .50 cal snipe shot to the head, if you are lucky and you get a hit directly to the head and not glacing blow, even if the sniper is not legendary (which mine still is not if I recall) it seems able to kill all but the toughest. I've killed plenty of 2nd or 3rd tier Super Mutants and DeathClaws with a single headshot. I've also failed to kill them in one shot quite a bit, but then my Luck is 1! :)

Pretty sure my non-legendary .50 sniper also lists damage as "130" or thereabouts.

Found a legendary plasma rifle recently (play on Normal) and the damage was listed as 220. Stashed it and until this moment had forgot about it. Need to stock up on plasma cartridges and start using this as my CQB rifle.

I just reached Diamond City with my latest char, and one of the weapons vendors there has the unique legendary fat man in stock, with the 'double shot' attribute. Hard to imagine a weapon more awesome than that. Can you imagine that in the hands of a char that has all the appropriate +damage and +sneak attack crit damage perks maxed out?

1. Double Shot Gauss - or even a Laser Musket w/4-6 Crank

2. Wounding / Explosive on Combat Shotguns or Automatics

3. Kneecapper on automatics

There's not really overpowered guns as much as there are overpowered Legendary prefixes. Double Shot, Wounding, Explosive pretty much throw all balance out the window.

The cryolator gun is the most OP in the game. I have pay and spray and the overseers guardian ect as well. The cryolator just demolishes everything. The ammo is insanely expensive though.

I play on normal and i get them. Playing on Survival only increases the chances legendary enemies spawning so therefor you will have more legendary drops.

So far, my most powerful weapon is the Terrible combat shotgun. I don't know what it's base damage is, because tied with the Lone Wanderer perk which grants 25% more damage, its "base" is 146.

More than enough to make me feel extremely confident walking anywhere in the Commonwealth, including the Glowing Sea.

Legendary Chameleon Deathclaw.... anyone want steaks? ;)

close range: ive got a 2 shot combat shotgun doing almost 300 per shot, somewhere around there. worst part about 2 shots is the low accuracy.

mid range: my armor piercing (25%) hair trigger assault rifle is my main.

long range is just about any guass. better make sure you have ninja and sandman perks. up to 5x damage bonus!

Some of the perk combos can really make weapons very powerful, especially with sneak attack, and a critical while sneak attacking? poof bye bye enemy. Legendary drops are not necessary, it all depends on your character build and how that fits with your play style.

Also investing in settlement and cap perks means you can buy so much ammo that you never have to fear about running out or either caps or ammo. Really the power of your character is the synergy that character builds can create with various perk combos . But it is really hard trying to convince people that the perks on the charisma tree are some of the most powerful "combat" perks because of the synergies they provide with making you rich and giving you so many shops to sell to and buy from that ammo shortages are something you only vaguely recall in the early stages of the game.

So, I've got all kinds of legendary weapons doing tons of damage, but I have to say the most OP weapon is my "staggering" 10MM pistol. Of course it's modded out and equipped with a silencer but still the damage is low. it's the "staggering" effect combined with the quick rate of fire (as fast as I can click the button) that makes it OP. Means the enemies are in a constant "staggered" state unable to fight back.

Of course it's fairly low damage and it mostly works on human characters but still, it's pretty darn effective.

Two-shot plasma sniper. With the Rifleman perk this thing does insane damage! With reflex sight it works in pretty much any situation and trust me, the 9-shot limitation of the sniper barrel is no problem at all.

I'm kind of partial to the broadsider, gamma gun and missile launcher. All pretty rare ammo but worth it. No legendary perks needed.

I like my 10 damage .38 auto Kneecapper I found. I just hose em' down with the cheapest ammo in the game. You can do all the legs if you want. ;)

Yeah, I wonder if he made a typo or if he was just yanking our chain: 236 base + 150 explosive is insanity. That is nearly the equivalent of one mini-nuke per shotgun shell! :gun:

Actually, maybe it is a mod that adds explosive shotgun shells?
