The most unexpected way you died

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 7:06 pm

I never saw it coming.. I was hiking through the forests of southern Skyrim after killing some Silver Hands. I made my way up a mountain and saw a birds nest perched on the edge of a cliff. I climbed up into the nest admiring the view, the sun was going down so I decided to wait out the night in a birds nest. I press the wait key and wait for 8 hours. When I come back to game the sun is rising and it's a new day. Suddenly the bird that lives in that nest flies in from behind and lands in the nest. I hear a thud as the bird collides with my body.. I am sent off the cliff to my death. :sadvaultboy:

Didn't realise the magic resist bug after 1.2, was fighting an elder dragon and he used the fire shout they have (not breathing fire, the other one like a fireball) and it killed me in one shot. Level 60+ on master ha.

I have been pushed to my death by a companion a couple times before I stopped using them altogether. My favorite is still the physics of accidentally running through a bunch of "physics" active boulders, or when I was killed by an errant tankard that got knocked off a table at near warp speed.

Ok that is just awesome!

I'm sure I've had plenty of funny deaths, but I remember one in particular, though it's nothing special. I just had the peace council at High Hrothgar, with its conclusion: "Our lives are in your hands, defeat Alduin, and save Tamriel". I went outside, and I fell down the mountain... The thought of that made me lol

I was fighting a dragon on the side of a mountain. Was attempting to maneuver behind some cover to avoid a breath attack and I accidentally stepped off a cliff, plummeting to my untimely death.

The most unexpected way my follower died was when I shot fireballs at a draugr 15 meters in front of me and my follower who was standing behind me gasped and went up in flames. Has happened on a few different occasions. And no - no enemies behind us. ;)

That's exactly one of those memorable deaths, when you're expected to be a skilled warrior, a hero to save the earth, you make such a stupid mistake and die, leaving the world doomed. Awesome :D

Woopsie! LOL

Why did they hold that council all the way up there in the first place? What do you expect?!

I've had two ridculously funny ones (though you probably had to be there) -

casually walking across an inn only to tread on a random basket, and have it bounce off an opposite wall at high speed and into my face, killing me

sprinting to out-run a pack of wolves while on my horse, only to come through some shrubbery and out on to a thin felled log spanning a deep gourge, with some bandit positioned right in the middle of it. Needless to say I tried to barge straight through him, only to be edged off the side and down the cliff, to my and my horses imminent death.

Was wandering about in the wilderness, and my little mage just...falls over dead. I'm assuming it was a Chaurus hidden in the tall grass.

On top of a high cliff fighting a bandit, thinking I had Unrelenting Force on but really had Whirlwind Sprint. I hit the ground hard.

Being a long time Elder Scrolls veteran, I'm usually pretty careful. My legitimate deaths are pretty few and far between. (When I'm screwing around with the intent to die eventually, I don't count it....such as seeing how many guards I can kill before they kill me or seeing what happens when I shoot a mammoth with a bow at level 2...)

But I was working through the Companions quests and came upon Krev the Skinner. So far, I brushed through the Silver Hand easily. Got the warning about him for Aela...I thought, "no big deal."

Well as soon as he comes into sight, I pump one arrow into him as he comes running up and does this hurricane spin move with his warhammer, killing me (at full health) in one hit.

It has been years since I was that thoroughly trounced in a video game.

I hear a loud crash behind me I turn around and see a big dragon, then before I can think to pull out my weapons he sticks me in his mouth thrashes a bit then spits me out cracking my head against a boulder with me looking at the loading screen wondering just what the heck happened.

This. Although it wasnt a dragon that did me in.

Level 40, playing on Master. Didn't realize the magic resists were bugged (I used to stack lots of resists), didn't see that fire rune...instant death. :flamed:

The funniest I think for me, was when I used unrelenting force just after combat on a skull on the ground, near a wall, just for a laugh.
(My health was rather low, and we all know what strange things can happen with extremely fast moving objects in this game)
Yes, thats right, that skull decided to bounce off the wall (and a few other objects) and smack back at me and killed me.

I was stunned at first, laughed for a bit, then thought.... *crap* when was the last time I saved.... *sad face*

I was fighting a elder dragon and I had it down to a few more hits. When I used a potion to replenish health the dragon picked me up and killed me... Off i went into oblivion. :sadvaultboy:

I was injured (luckily not killed) by a Giants toe I knocked off a table at an alchemist shop. Those things are dangerous even after death it would seem...

I also injured an inn worker after kicking a pot off the dining table towards her. She screamed as if she had been hit by an arrow and then said "hey! watch it!"

Gotta watch those flying objects....

Slightly increased enemy level and spawn mod put an Elder Dragon on me at level 25.
As if that wasnt weird enough, that was only the first, the game spawned 8 Dragons in one hour. 1 Frost, 1 Blood, 2 Named, 1 Elder and 1 Ancient and 2 I ran from when I saw them in the distance while I was busy with other Dragons.
I think it had something to do with me doing the Dragon Wall Quest before that to.
Didnt happen again after that hour though, pretty weird.

hmmmm.... I had a couple. Probably the funniest was the flying horse syndrome, where I thought I knew where I was going and didn't look close enough at the cliff I was quickly approaching to realize it was not in fact the slight hill I thought it was. Weeeeeee!!!

The most unexpected way I died was late in the game however - after acquiring my dragon plate armor I felt like Mr. Badass, nothing could kill me. While clearing out a Forsworn camp I found myself utterly stunned when a dual sword wielder chopped me down in a very quick three hits, since every other enemy in the entire camp was complete fodder. In fact, up to that point every enemy that came at me could sit there swinging over and over again while inflicting minimal damage, so this dual wielding briar heart was totally out of left field.

The most unexpected death in the game so far was not that of my own character however. While wandering the woods somewhere a dragon came swooping in to attack me. He must have swooped a bit too hard though, because when he landed on my head he killed himself. No followers with me, no other NPCs around, and I didn't even get a chance to attack him - I was actually disappointed at the lack of a fight when I was done laughing!

Starved to death after being trapped on uneven terrain in a dead-end tunnel by a treaseure chest (I think it was in the barrow in Ivarstead). Couldn't walk, run, sprint, stealh, jump or whirlwind shout out (might not have had whirlwind shout).

Actual deaths, it's a toss up:

1. Stepped on a rune after killing two of the witches while retrieving nettlebane (thought combat was over).
2. Sabrecat appeared from around a boulder and one-shot me (didn't even have time to draw a weapon).
