The music in Skyrim....

Post » Mon Dec 06, 2010 8:26 am

The music in Oblivion was beautiful...at least the roaming one was. The fighting music-forgive me for saying this-was kinda cheesy/cliche. It felt like Runescape background music. I think Skyrim should work on that part of the music most, because the roaming music was amazing in TES 4. Also, I think it should vary for monsters. For example this was too common in Oblivion: I'll be walking, then suddenly OH NO! COMBAT MUSIC! PREPARE YOURSELF! IT'S A BIRD, IT'S A PLANE, IT'S A .......mud crab. I think dragons should have their own music, and mud crabs should have a less "intense" music.

Your thoughts?

Music is a very important part of a game. I hope they have Elder Scroll-ish music.

I don't much care about the music, aside from a desire that if fit the game. I haven't been disappointed in a TES game yet.

The only thing that matters to me is that music not serve as an early warning system. I want to know that my character's about to get attacked because he sees something or hears something or, in the worst case, because he actually gets attacked. NOT because the music changes. That's ridiculous.

I love the music from Oblivion.

I agree though, the battle music was annoying and stupid. They should just do something more subtle and ambient.

Skyrim will have more realistic AI anyway. Instead of everything attacking you on sight, a lot of creatures will keep to themselves unless you get too close or threaten them.

the different music for a certain enemy could kind of ruin the immersion because we would all play this game a lot. eventually we would be able to tie certain music to certain enemies. music comes onand i know its a bear so i get to high ground before i even see the bear.. also i would like something epic like if you guys saw Gangs of New York, the end of the movie has an awesome sound track when they go through time by the grave. i just don't want only orchestra and strings for everything i would like some distortion guitar cuz it pumps you up so much. the opening to halo 3 or halo 2 i can't remember had an awesome distortiong guitar solo and man i got pumped up so much when it came on in the campaign.

We need multiple songs though not just roaming with no enemies and roaming with enemies around you

I also love the music from Oblivion and so glad to see Jeremy Soule again doing the score for the game. Loved Oblivion's and KOTOR's soundtrack.

Maybe music could be largely location based, in a reasonably achievable way, including the battle music with a decent number of tracks tied to each area rather than to the enemy. Obviously, things like mudcrabs should lack any kind of music transition. They're simply barely threatening after all.

i personally think skyrim will be a more dark and savage theme. todd howard said this: "Oblivion was more king arthur, skyrim is more conan. a savage feel"
i don't liek the idea, i liked the whole royal and regal atmosphere...

AGREED different music for climates or areas is way better than enemies bethesda please read this.. also put in something that pumps you up when you are fighting dragons :celebration:

I really don't play with music...I usually turn it down or off (in most games). In that regard I do hope there is great ambient sounds. I like to get lost in the worlds and music may help others but I don't feel it as much as I enjoy listening to the surroundings.

I hope it's similar in style & quality to Oblivion's music, because that music is awesome. (Considering that the Skyrim trailer music fits what I said, I have high hopes. :) )

Never really worried about music in a TES game. I mean...its Jeremy Soule. He was born, destined to make TES music. His last name cleary indicates that.

Not the theme, but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFMkDYVe4l8&feature=related reminds me of The Last of the Mohicans. Mostly around 1:20.

Sounds like a dungeon theme, or maybe exploration music for some bleaker landscapes such as the volcanic tundra region they've talked up so much. But yeah, what we've heard of the music so far is pretty amazing.

I'm hoping it'll be a step up from Oblivion's music. I didn't not like the music in Oblivion; it was fitting and beautiful, but it didn't WOW me like the music in Shadow of Colossus or Halo 1. Now those are memorable soundtracks.

Oblivion had the best soundtrack out of all of the ES games IMO. Watchman's Ease, Dusk at the Market, King and Country, Wings of Kynareth, or Harvest Dawn while in the Mages Hall. Yes, best soundtrack.

It didn't in my opinion.

Reason being?

I still hum Morrowind's theme from time to time. I can't even remember Oblivion's main theme, and I played it an HOUR ago.

SO FAR however, the Skyrim soundtrack is giving me CHILLS.
