In The Navy

Post » Fri Oct 14, 2011 7:55 pm

I know there will be no moving boats, but it would be great to see a naval base along the coast somewhere. A docked naval fleet would be especially cool to see. I think Solitude would be a good place to have some sort of naval base, because it's the largest coastal city. It would also be cool to go back to see again like we did during The Golden Galleon quest in Oblivion.

What do you guys think? Discuss!

I don't see why not. There was a lot of sailor culture in the Oblivion game, too, if you knew where to look... ahem... Anvil and Waterfront district. What's more, the nords are a seafaring folk in lore, so it makes all kinds of sense.

I know it isn't very viking-y, but I imagine the Nords to have large Spanish-style Galleons. It would be cool to see a giant ship moored in harbor filled with marines and sailors.

Nope! No sailing what so ever. Maybe you could go on deck of a ship and wait for 24 hrs and pretend you went on a day cruise training excercise?

I wonder if it would be possible to make an awesome mod that allows you to travel the water on a moving boat, or at least see moving boats. I highly doubt it but it would be nice to see.

isnt the navy a relatively current thing, and sense nordic cultures are more based off of viking than anything else, shouldnt it just be a small group of raiders?

Skyrim (and tes in general) is sort of based on history to some extent.. and an idea of a "navy" is a bit silly... docking areas with longboats and the like, sure but a "navy" is a pretty modern definition. It's like saying there should be an army base or something..

I know you were joking Mr. Thorman! It comes from that lovely song by "The Village People"! My comment wasn't meant to be taken seriously either  . Now please, put down your hammer and do not smite this poor smiley Khajiit with its awesomness, for he is sorry he was not more clear with his humor!

acctualy the terms army and navy have been used throughout history as military terms. iirc there were references to a "navy" as far back as aincient greece (if im wrong someone please lemme know)
