The NES thread

Hey guys :)

I realize that maybe not so many here share my passion for this gaming system, but it′s a classic and I′d just like to talk about it a little.

I got mine at christmas when I was seven or eight years old and I still remember the happiness when I unwrapped it. I had previously played some games at a friend′s house so I already knew how it worked. It came with Super Mario Bros and my brother and I played the crap out of it

My other initial games were Days of Thunder, Rad Racer, Shadowgate, Dr Mario, Ice Climber, SMB3 and a few more. Sadly though when I grew tired of the games I had I traded some of them for others or just got rid of them. I hate myself for it now but I couldn′t know back then that I wanted to collect these games later on... :P

I do still have most games left from childhood and have recently expanded my collection greatly, including American and unlicensed titles. Not long ago I also opened up both my controllers and the system itself and gave it all a deep clean as well as disabling the 10NES chip that has been the source of so many games not starting up just because the specific contact in the cartridge didn′t connect to the chip correctly. As you may know this chip was put there to prevent pirated games but now when the system is long put out of the market it no longer serves its purpose and is just more likely to make legit copies not start up.

Now every game start up at the first try every time, provided I have cleaned the game too, of course. It really is a fun and simple system to use and I′m so glad mine still work :)

Unfortunately I was born too late to revile in the NES era. In fact some time before my families first move I remember coming across an NES with a copy of Mario Bros., but I forgot about it shortly after simply because I was young and didn't really know the magnitude of that find. I so which I could go back in time and tell my younger self to keep up with all the classic systems/games I simply let go :(
