The Nevevarine

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:43 am

From The Doors of Oblivion:
"Zenas was right, and astonishingly, he even had audience with the Queen of Dusk and Dawn in her rose palace. She listened to his tale with a smile, and told him of the coming of the Nevevarine."

Quite clearly says Nevevarine. A search of the forums didn't turn up much and UESP/TIL only bring this book up. Is there any information at all about The Nevevarine?

Purposely or accidentally mispelled Nerevarine? I doubt it. Or have I misunderstood the meaning of this word?

I don't expect much, but I appreciate anything you can come up with.

Nevevarine?

Ahh. Sounds like a spelling mistake.

A very hard typing error to make, but a typing error no less. Unless Nerevar's bit on the side also came back (it honestly wouldn't surprise me if he had one...) ;)

If it was a spelling error what else could it be spelling?

Where did this information come from? The only thing I know is the rumors that Nerevar went to Akavir.
This is very interesting though...

There are several instances in TES books in which misspellings are present. Additionally, some entities have a letter or two changed when referenced by different cultures. For example, the Dunmeri name is "Lorkhan", but the Khajiit name for the same entity is "Lorkhaj", which is a difference only in the last letter.

The UESP page wiki rendition places the annotation "[ sic ]" beside the unusual spelling, which indicates a true replication of an inaccuracy from the original text.

I would conclude that the irl author misspelled "Nerevarine" in the book, and that the misspelling is not a new facet of lore for us to munch upon.

Yes, gamesas can make mistakes like that......remember the "oh, wait, let me try that one again..." soundbyte?

I believe that all of the information regarding the Nerevarine can be found in articles relating to Morrowind as well as in the Imperial Library. You might also want to try the UESP again with the proper spelling.

Also, as far as I know, the only info we learn about Nerevar after Morrowind is that he's gone off on an expedition to Akavir.
