The new forums are pretty bad

Post » Thu May 19, 2016 11:04 am

Started to notice threads being closed over here warning everything is going to close. You go post over there the mods there close threads tell you to post on gamesas's forums. LOL confusing as hell plus its horrid Windows 8 look makes the experience even more confusing.

LOL the general discussion forum there threads are getting closed for not posting feedback in the 'General Discussion' forum

This is the most awful forum transition/reinvention/whatever of all time. Bethesda has hired incompetent people with bad taste in design and functionality, again

Did it really need to be reinvented? Or redesigned? These forums work perfectly on mobile.

This forum here is great. It's still open and I already miss it. Bethesda has committed a crime against its fans by forcing this ugly cluster[censored] on us.

Yeah, it's scary over there.. not enjoying the experience :nope:

worst of it -besides not knowing which words are and aren't prohibited.. and the layout.. and the login goofiness... and navigation snafu's.. :ahhh:

is that you can't see who else is active when you go there, which to me is like walking into a house and not knowing who's in the livingroom :shakehead:

It's like the "I am Legend" of forums. :cold:

I cannot agree more. I made an account there and posted a couple of times, but just can't bring myself to go back there. My god, I hate it. It's sad because I loved talking about Fallout 4, and as much as I love that game, I won't go to the new forums to discuss it.

It's truly a travesty.

Indeed. We are all holding on to these forums as long as possible until the final nail in the coffin.

I post over there every now and then because I have to talk about Fallout somewhere because they managed to kill off its entire community here, but it doesn't take long until I just log off (I don't actually log off, but the website logs me off anyway for whatever stupid reason). It's been some months since it launched and very little has changed for the better and a lot of issues still remain and continue to go unfixed. And overall it's just an epitome of poor design.

I registered to the new place but I didn't post anything. Why would I, since I don't like the design, the colors, the edit tools, the avatar system, the like and not useful system, the facebook vibe... everything feels like created and handled by amateurs. A big company like Bethesda deserved (and could surely afford) better, imo.

So very true. Granted I mostly lurk here these days rather than post, but with those 'new' forums (and apparent lack of fixing/optimising them) I can't see myself continuing on there when (if?) it becomes the only option. :(

I was slightly active there for a few weeks but between the horrid design, influx of elitist snobs and complete lack of communication/improvement/fixes from Beth; I just gave up on it.

I tried your new forums Beth I really did but when your forums becomes more chore than enjoyment how can you expect people to stick around? Or maybe you just don't care anymore.

Yeah, same boat. I gave them a go, got fed up trying to even login after it told me I needed to validate my email yet again.

The few times I did get through, it was terrible trying to navigate around the place. Unfortunately, all I see now is a doomsday clock over this nice-looking, working forum filled with interesting and friendly people.

Much the same here, albeit without quite so much lurking! Through various ups and downs, there's been a pretty good community here, but the new forums are just dire and miserable to use, I'm not sure that any community spirit could really salvage them; though that seems a rather unlikely prospect anyway. I'll most likely just give up once the "old forum" CD is closed.

So far, the ONLY folks that I have seen that actually LIKE the 'new' forums, were, for the most part, folks that had never been to these forums..... Sure, there are a few folks there that seem to think those are 'better'....... but, they are a very tiny minority. (and for the most part, are of the firm belief that beth can do no wrong in any event......)

What is just amazing is, all of the issues that have been brought up, documented, and discussed to death there, by members, since the place OPENED, I don't think ANY of them have been addressed. They take the forums down for 'maintenance' every now and again, yet nothing changes. All of the same problems are still there. The powers-that-be that seem to be running the show there don't even acknowledge that there ARE problems....... We haven't heard from anyone in the know there for weeks.

The layout is terrible. It is anyones guess what forum a thread is actually in, in certain views.... you can get threads from just about any section, and you don't know what section it is actually in, until you open it.

Navigation is terrible. No ability to go to first unread post. No indication of even who the last poster was, until you actually open the thread. You automatically subscribe to EVERY thread you post in. You can't reply to a thread from your "inbox", (where notifications of new posts are sent) except to reply to the ORIGINAL post in a thread......

You can't stay logged in for more than 30 minutes or so at a time. Even if you are ACTIVE on the site.

Even when you ARE logged in, you still encounter the birthday gate moving from section to section. (forums, to mods, for instance) Even though the forums should be well aware of your age.... since you registered an account there.....

And that is just a tiny cross-section of issues with the new forums. Quite frankly, they are terrible. I have seen forums set up, and ran by, a few teenagers using freeware, that are far superior to the crap that beth paid good money for.

Who made those decisions? Some VP's grandkid? Evidently, not someone that has ever had any experience even posting on a forum...... and the Mods section? Holy smoke, where to even begin with the outright idiocy of that design........ I would ask "What were they thinking?", but, by all appearances, they were not doing any thinking at all. They just bought into the market jive, of.... Jive.....

There is a reason why NeoGAF is the most interesting gaming forum: it has a normal forum layout, not some "facebook meets norton commander" abomination; and then registration is not for everybody, one needs to be accepted.

Sad to see this community slowly dying. The new forums are an absolute travesty and bethesda genuinely don't seem to care, much to my dismay.

And with Far Harbor coming out we'll either have to use those [censored] forums or.....well.....or nothing.

Meh.

Edit- When are the TES forums moving? That'll be the nail in the coffin for me.

I don't think Bethesda has any idea how much "Customer Support" has been given to new game purchasers by the community here. If they had any understanding of how this community serves as an ongoing support for their games, they would do everything possible to hold it together, rather than ripping it apart.

I'm slowly moving away from these forums, don't really feel like posting anymore since it's going away. Think I'll just return to lurk mode and only go on forums when I'm looking for an answer like I did before I joined this forum.

Yeah, it′s because of the community I don′t have to suffer under the Abomb in Oblivion anymore, and that I′m able to run Fallout 3 on Win7 64. Beth didn′t do jack to help me, the community did :tops:
