The new Map system

Post » Mon Jul 04, 2011 1:32 pm

I personally think it looks really annoying, I want to see a traditional map, not some 3D rendering of the world, it looks like Civilization 4.

Personally I love it - Civ4 and Civ5 are my favorite games after the TES series.

It's very flashy, I think it looks good. We'll see how easy it is to use though....

This may be something we are missing. I don't recall seeing any views of the Local Map. I think the 3D map looks fine for the larger world but for a local map or interior view of locations hopefully we'll get something a little more functional.

I think interior maps will be just regular maps.

Actually, I think a 3D map would work better for indoors, in OB and MW on dungeons with multiple levels it was so annoying trying to figure out where you were, you'd think you were following a path only to run into a dead end.

That's a fair point. I guess we'll have to see it, the world map looked to me like it would be rather disorienting as a local map, but till we see it not much to say I guess.

The new "show route" spell will probably help out a great deal on finding your way in complex locations, although I hope it won't be able to solve "get there" puzzles for us.

It looks pretty annoying to me, and I don't see how and why people like this. But the majority, atleast according to the poll, seem to like it so I guess there's no reason why a classical map should be implemented instead.

I don't like it's side view. I want it to be directly from above.

How many people in this thread have asked for a link to the map and how many times have they all been ignored. I would link but haven't seen the new map either sounds like it is 3d or something though.

At least making it a toggle for those with slower systems would be okay

I would like an old drawn map. It adds to the immersion in my opinion.

It's true that a simpler, drawn map would be more immersive. However, given the highly mountainous terrain, I suspect the zoomed-out map might make it easier to navigate ("Yeah, NOT going to try going straight there, I'ma go round" :)). I think it's a reasonable approach; not perfect, but reasonable.

I'll wait until I've used it and experienced its practicality before I offer a verdict. It looks a lot nicer though.

I think thats the reason they put a 3d map. navigating through the mountains were so annoying in oblivionand morrowind trying to get up a steep cliff to get to your destination I think the new map will help with this.
