The new Map system

Post » Mon Jul 04, 2011 1:35 pm

I personally think it looks really annoying, I want to see a traditional map, not some 3D rendering of the world, it looks like Civilization 4.

I think it looks astonishing. Props for trying something new, Bethesda.

I wonder if adding new things to it will be harder now, since you have to render a tiny 3-d model of it?

I find it great, as it can be some sort of Dovahkiin power.

You send out your semi-draconic soul upward to look at the ground from a dragon point of view, and can see the world in 3d form, from above.

And this method enable the developers to cover the areas that you have not seen yet, in fog or cloud, so that you would no see all the map, and places that you have not actually explored would remain covered.

But if you have explored the places before, with a singe look, you can decide that a ramp in front of you might be too steep for you to climb the mountain ahead to the temple on the zenith, but the ramp at the back of the mountain should be climbable, so you would travel around the mountain and try to reach the backside ramp.

And I think to make it more like an inborn power, it would be better to make the center of the map screen sharp, around the edges of the screen, foggy or wavy.

All in all, I like it a lot. :)

Visually I think it's great  I'm not sure how functional it will actually be but I'm sure it won't be much worst than OBs (heck maybe it will be better)

It just looks like the game's distant land mesh to me. Pretty barren, even for a magical 3D Dwemer spyplane view. I'd much rather have a traditional map, but certainly will be advantageous to modders.

It Java/Actionscript 2.0 and the made it barren so it wouldn't draw too much hardware resources.

I think it's great and it will help getting around all the mountains. the oblivion and morrowind maps were horrible when it came to navigating around mountains so I think this is why they haded the 3d map thing.

The 3D map is truly stunning. Can't wait to check it out fullscale. I'm curious about dungeon and indoor maps. Wonder how they're implemented?
