The New Order

Prologue: Opening Scene

The flatlands burned as we watched the village centered inside, be consumed with smoke and flames. The fire crackled and raged furiously, as cries of men and women; along with some children crying echoed through the dark starry night. My Flamer in hand, and my face covered with black smoke, all I could do was watch with the others as the village burned and the flatlands around it burned as well. At the top of the tallest hill, to the east of the village stood our leader. Only his large bulky silhouette was visible in the dark starry night, but we all knew he was ready to move on from the burning village; that still echoed the screams of men, women, and children crying in agony and terror.

As soon as our leader waved over to us, we got our gear together, and moved on towards his direction. Our large bulky yellow bodies, brutishly moving past a ruined house which once stood strong and tall. It had not been touched by the fires, and I could see inside the broken down wall that the people who had once lived inside, had been people of honor and possibly high class. None of us could bother with thinking of what to say; we were all too weary, and uninterested in speaking with each other at the moment. My mind wandered through the night, wondering what it was like to be human. Our leader had told us, that being human was a disease which had to be whipped off the face of the earth; and that we were the ones to do so. We were the next step in the evolutionary chain of events. We were the ones, that would make a new utopia, and not just any utopia; a lasting utopia. One which would last years and years, never to be extinguished like the humans had tried to achieve before the bombs fell.

While the verbal silence continued, and the sound of our footsteps echoed; the light from the burning village and flatlands around became obscured by the winding hills around us. I took a deep sigh, and continued to march along with the others. Not before long, our leader raised his large right hand in a fist; signaling for us to stop where we were. Our loud marching steps, much larger and louder than that of a humans, suddenly stopped in unison. We looked around for a moment, making sure we weren't stopping because of a possible ambush or something that would bring attention to ourselves violently. We all looked to our leader, who stood quietly as well; his head surveying the outlining area before turning to us.

"We'll make camp on top of hill. Small fires, keep your voices down so not to attract attention." He said in a deep powerful voice. His bulky silhouette was much larger up close, and we could see in his eyes that there was fire inside of him. We all nodded, and quickly hurried up the top of the hill; quickly unpacking our supplies, and making small fires to keep warm during the night. I was the first one with a fire, and two others from my unit who were good warriors came by and huddled beside the warm fire. We all smiled the best we could, and put our hands near the fire to keep them warm. It was highly unlikely that one of us would freeze to death over night, due to our large body mass; but it didn't matter. It was always nice to have a fire going whether for warmth, or just to have as company of sorts.

"That village was a good lot of meat to waste." One of the warriors beside my fire said. I and the other warrior looked at him, nodding in agreement as several other fires began sprouting up. "Should have taken weapons, should have taken the human's weapons." I looked again, nodding in agreement. The other warrior was silent, uninterested really to talk much with either of us it seemed. During the fighting, I had seen the silent warrior, break through one of the human's barriers, and with his small rifle; tear the group of humans guarding the barrier to pieces. It was quite an amazing sight, but one I had seen many times before in my life. The talkative warrior, I had not seen in the chaotic fighting which enveloped most of the fighting; and which had ended quite abruptly. All three of us were quiet, as we listened to the popping and crackling of the fire, its bright yellow and orange flame was almost hypnotizing.

The next morning, we awoke with a swift banging of pots and pans. I almost jumped off the ground, quickly looking around to spy any danger that may be coming my way. But all I saw, was the others jolting up as well; while some were already gathering up their gear to move on. I grabbed my chest plate, along with my knee and elbow pads. Put them on quickly, before hurrying with my helmet and shoulder guards. Everything was made out of cold hard steel. It was thick too, and bullets were known to just compress on themselves against the steel, rather than pierce through; though I have to admit, some sniper rifles have pierced through and gotten me good. But none have killed me yet.

After everything was situated, and everything had been gathered up to move. We set out once again, heading east from the know more than likely burned out village we had left behind the night before. Our leader continued ahead, leading the way as I and the three other Super Mutant warriors continued in the center of the unit, quietly clambered along; keeping pace with the others ahead of us. Once again, the unit was silent and the only sound we made was our loud and large footsteps. The scenery around us, was bland and brown. It was no more than dried up dead grass, and completely scorched earth in some places we walked.

Not long after, around noon or so our leader raised his hand in a fist once again. And like before, we all suddenly stopped in unison. We along with him, scanned around to make sure nothing was in order to ambush us. We still had some way to go through the hills, known only to us as their old prewar name: The Black Hills. After a moment or two of scanning and listening, our leader gave us the go ahead to continue moving. But just then, as we were beginning to move out; the sudden cry of a man rang out all around us. It was hard for us to pinpoint where exactly the cry had come from, and we all quickly looked around the area surrounding us. Then, over one of the scorched and barren hills, a human man; along with seven others charged towards us. We readied our weapons, and then realized there wasn't just seven but ten more; possibly more following behind the original seven. My large fists gripped my Flamer close, read to give the first attackers a roasting.

I could tell, just by the way the humans charged at us, that they were warriors themselves. I did not know where they came from, but they had rage in their hearts and fire in their bellies. When I spied the first warrior, charging towards me, I turned to him and gave a quick squeeze of my Flamer's trigger, enveloping the attacker in flames. He cried out, dropped his weapon as he tried to put the fire out. A sadistic smile came over my face as I turned to the other attackers, giving another two or three bursts of my flamer. My eyes filled with the sight of fire, as the sound of bullets rang out also. I had my own personal assault rifle, but did not use it often unless in close combat; such as the type of combat which happens inside ruined buildings and houses. But out here, out in the open, I preferred my trusty Flamer.

As soon as the battle had started, we thought for sure we would quickly dispose of the humans, and be along our merry way. But this was not to be so. As I turned to see where my fellow warriors were, I saw two of them looking at the other hill to our left. More humans were charging down, in an even greater number. This time, their faces were painted with different colors, and their hair was brightened with different colors and objects as well. I rushed over to the new threat, switching to my left reserve tank as I readied the nozzle at the brightly colored warriors. Their battle cry was loud, and echoed even over our own almost. I quickly opened up with a long minute burst from my reserve, scorching at least five brightly colored humans in a row. I laughed uncontrollably, and gave another burst; this time shorter at the already crying out humans. But before I could squeeze off another, a human who was not so brightly colored, got the jump on me and leapt onto my back. I reached behind myself, trying to tear the little bastard away, before it could do any harm to me or my tank.

I grunted and groaned in annoyance as the human laughed, and dodged my hand. As I spun around, trying to pry the little humans hands off my armor, I noticed a flat slab of rock resting nearby. I didn't look over at it too long, just so the human wouldn't get any ideas I was having. As the fighting continued; and I struggled with the annoying human who didn't seem to have any knife, sword, or anything else they could jab or shoot me with, but was just there to distract me while the others tried taking down my comrades. I quickly undid my Flamer, and with a clear shot to the slab, I ran with human latched on. I ran at the slab, with all my might; the human now knowing my plan, tried to distract me with their hands, but their tiny fists weren't helping the situation. I leapt into a half spin, and with a loud crack; my back smashed against the slab rock, the human on my back cried out in agony as the sound of their bones breaking echoed a bit. I smiled and quickly reached around, grabbing the human by the wrist. It was a young man, and he was clearly dead. Blood ran down the back of his head, and I could see that his free arm was broken, and the rest was basically a smashed and mangled mess.

Not long after, I left the human where I stood by the slab rock, and picked up my Flamer once again, helping finish off the remaining humans that had attacked us. When the battle was over, we took what we could from the torn and burned bodies; having no sympathy for them at all. We were at war, and my unit known as, 'The Hell Hounds' continued on our war path; leaving nothing along our path but blood and terror. My name is Tom, and I am apart of the newly formed, and newly built: Masters Army.

Nice, interesting, and pretty unique. The ending didn't really create that much suspense (in my point of view) and just something I think but, would super mutants refer to themselves as such? I'm not sure but that part kinda stuck out to me. Good fan-fic though!

Thank you Kika, I had a feeling you'd enjoy it.

Well from FO3, Fawkes refers to them as 'Meta-humans' but I'm not really sure what they'd refer to themselves as besides the next step in the evolutionary chain. :P So if you have any idea as to what they should call themselves, I'm all ears. :D And thanks, I know the ending wasn't very suspenseful, but it wasn't meant to be really because most the time in combat it's just tunnel vision. And tunnel vision isn't very suspenseful when your a Super Mutant.

Chapter 1: Not Much

The sun that day, did not show itself at all. In the sky, there was nothing but dark grey clouds which just hung there, slowly passing by in one large gob of darkness. Our leader and the rest, trudged through the wasteland; headed to a camp where we were to meet up with other units, and be refitted. The battle just the other day was still in some of our minds. I thought back to the human, who I had smashed against the rock, and wondered what his life would have been like if we had taken him captive, and given him a short dip into the F.E.V. Vats? He had the courage to be a Super Mutant, but the only thing lacking was his actual look of us. Anyway, as we trudged on through the open land, our leader and the rest of us spotted lights out over the horizon. There was no way, that it could have been our own; we only moved on foot. The unknown lights, continued across the horizon; and then suddenly started our way. All of us watched, unknowing of what to do but prepare our weapons. I turned on my tank, fiddling with the nozzle while the others readied their weapons as well.

I looked as our leader gave us the order to spread out in a line. He would be in the center, and the rest would line up on either side of him, in equal length of each other. I was five mutants down from him, second to last in the line to his right. My Flamer hissed at the end of the nozzel, as the gas awaited to be ignited.

"Get ready, don't fire until I do." Our leader said looking at us down the lines. We nodded, watching as the lights began to speed up and get closer. There were six of them, all were some kinda vehicle, and were definitely not carrying friends. I waited just like the others, when suddenly the lights turned off and three trucks- old prewar military trucks- stopped and quickly shut off. I couldn't see inside the windshield, it was blacked out kinda, but it could have just been the lack of light.

"Lay down your weapons, immediately. Your plans are done with, surrender your weapons and none of you mutant bastards will be killed. Or we can do it the other way, and my men and I can take you out without hesitation. Now lay down your weapons!" The voice from inside the first truck said. There was a loud speaker on the top of the roof, and a cord running down the back; probably to the speaker.

"We will not lay down our weapons." Our leader replied, taking a couple steps forward. We all did the same, and suddenly tension was heavy in the air. Some of the warriors snarled and were ready to go on the attack without hesitation themselves. I was one of them as well, and opened the nozzle of my Flamer more, to allow a wider spread of the flame.

Just as our leader was about to open his mouth, to give us an order. The passanger door on the first truck opened. The windows were definitely darkened, a dark figure stepped out; closing the door behind him as he stepped in front of the truck. It was a human, male, and stood about three feet shorter than myself it seemed. He was clad in dark combat armor, and he wore black sunglasses to hide his eyes. I didn't like that, knowing the fact that he could be looking anywhere. I gripped my flamer closer, and with our leader, took another two steps forward.

"Well, you have got to be the saddest looking bunch of Muties, I've ever laid eyes on! Only thirteen of you, and you're armed with shoddy weaponry. Well, it seems the new Master will not be pleased when I report to him. We can give you a ride over the old boarder if you like? What are compatriots to do?" The human said with a smile on his face. We all looked at him confused. What were humans doing around here, helping us in our fight? We hadn't heard of any humans sympathetic to our cause. Our leader was smart, and before accepting he stepped up to the human with his old Chinese rifle, and leaned down to him.

"Why are humans helping us?" He said with an interrogating type tone. The human smiled, slowly taking off his glasses before looking up at our leader.

"I'm not a human.... I look human, I know. But I'm not... My men and I are synthetic humans. Created by the Commonwealth back on the East Coast... You can ask him if you'd like? But I promise you he won't be interested... So, do you want a lift back over the old boarder?"

We were stunned and amazed at what the human... synthetic man had said. Why was the commonwealth back on the East Coast helping us then? This was a question my leader failed to ask, but I later asked when we reached the base the androids had taken us to.

Later that day, when we finally reached the base- which didn't look anything like a base- we unloaded and took a look around. This was not a typical human base, one with tents and military installations here and there. It was hidden underground. Some androids, who were stationed at the base, lead us down inside. It was then, that I asked one of the androids leading us; why the common wealth back east was helping our cause. She simply said, that they weren't and that most of the androids fighting with the new Master were escaped and free androids. I wasn't so sure of her answer, mainly due to the fact that it was more than likely our scientists had reprogrammed them all to be 'Master friendly'.

After being situated and give our places to sleep, we all went down to the eating hall. There were already plenty of synthetic humans, and fellow mutants eating. I took my place at one of the empty tables, some of my unit joining me. I wasn't hungry, and none of them seemed to be all that hungry either. I took a look around, the room- like the rest of the base- was a cold steel look. Everything seemed so sterile, and untouched but here and there you could see some mess and unkept sections. We were told, that the base was one of the bases that the prewar government used as a shelter to enact their continuous war even though the bombs had fallen. It amazed me, at how well the androids knowledge on the base was correct. But after years of finding no one to fight, the base personnel simply left after food began to run short and morale became low. The androids continued to tell us, that the personnel were to later become apart of the new Master's Army. Most of which, were killed and the androids keeping the base functioning, became a 'clone' of the personnel. Each android, had the exact same facial and body features as the previous personnel. How this was done, I don't know.

When the day continued, and I ate, rested, and restocked my supplies, I went out topside to check out the base installations there. We had all been assigned to us, an android who would guide and answer all our questions if we had any. My android guard was name Patricia Larkin. She was a blonde, and had everything right about her that a human male would enjoy. She didn't obviously interest me, because I like any other of my kind didn't bother with that. Patricia was quite the know-it-all, but what could I expect from a synthetic human who had been programmed to know everything about the base, and its function, etc.

"Tell me Patricia. How long have you been here?" I said as we reached the top. She looked up at me, smiling and opening the door to the outside.

"Oh, about 150 years or so?" She said with a coy look on her face. We walked around, looked out over the horizon as we checked out the bases weapon defense installations which were hidden very well. "How long have you been a Super Mutant.... oh.... I mean a 'Meta-human'?" She said trying to catch her 'foul up'.

"Don't worry, no name bothers me. Super Mutant, Mutant, Meta-human, whatever you can think of. It doesn't bother me in the slightest." I said checking out one of the hidden emplacements. She looked and smiled, giving me a quick statistics report on the hidden gun. She seemed very impressed with my speech skills. And I told her, that over my time I had practiced and kept on top of being able to get my points through. Ever since I had been dipped in the F.E.V. Vats, I had tried keeping what little humanistic traits I still had besides speech.

After checking out the defenses, and talking a bit more about ourselves, we both decided it was best to get back inside the base and call it a day. It was starting to get darker, and since there was no sun showing through the dark clouds; it was darker than usual. The elevator and tunnel train down to the base was met with silence from the both of us. We didn't have much else to say to one another, and just enjoyed the ride down in each others company. When we reached the base, we went our separate ways, I quickly headed to my sleeping quarters, and she off to continue her nightly work. The amazing and yet sometimes annoying thing of synthetic humans, was that they could stay awake forever, only sleeping when they needed to act human. But being around nothing but Super Mutants, the need to act human wasn't all that important.

That night, I quickly and quietly fell asleep with no trouble. In the morning, I was informed, we'd be having to move out once again. The androids who had driven us in would escort, and drop us off outside a small village just out in the middle of no where. It would just be like the day before I thought. Just another village, just another quick and easy kill. I was eager to get into the heavy fighting.... The fighting which was taking place in much of the west, and parts of the Midwestern United States.
