One thing disturbed me on those pictures... look on the ground... its so... flat! The cobblestone just look like a some texture glued on a flat surface

the characters looked amazing though! :tes:

Compare with rocks from crysis

Not counting the mountains, hills and slopes or what? The path in the town is obviously 'flattened', but it wasn't more or less flat that any other rocky road. The forest looked pretty damn forest to me. And with plenty of ups and downs for that.

To put it the way a spam bot would: Beth and the Bump Map, the story of a girl who is unable to imagine things in three dimensions, is a long-running series of children's books

Doesn't look flat to me. Even the paved road in the town is clearly on a slant...

I thought it looked gorgeous and natural. The first picture looks very much like the Washington (US state) mountain area.

The preview articles state that Skyrim is beautiful and a huge leap from Oblivion.

Flat? They are roads, man! Are roads supposed to be bumpy?

If you refer to textures, that's nothing that Pharallax mapping can't solve. On PC, in any case.

Doesn't look that flat to me, unless your definition of 'flat' is something entirely different from mine.

That's what happens when you don't got tessellation or parallax occlusion mapping.
Or simply not that great normal maps.

Take a look at Crysis's parallax occlusion mapping. It's amazing. An otherwise flat surface looks real.

Visually, Skyrim would benefit heaps of things like this, because a lot of Skyrim has rocks and stone-walls/floors and such.

exactly, the stones on the road doesnt have any depth... the textures themselves are good.

I think he meant the textures were flat. The cobbles on the road definitely don't look set apart from the rest to me.

Something is screwy with the light, and I see that the paths look too flat (cobble stones for instance) ~but it still looks really nice IMO.

Hmm yeah I kind of get what you're saying, especially compared to the Crysis shots posted. It just doesn't seem that bad, I think. It looks worse on the town shot than in the forest shot as far as I can see, but I will also dare say it might just be that the shot itself is a bit... well weird... It seems there are some areas of the texture that are more 'bumpy-detaily' than other parts. I don't know how it works, maybe it's just the shot itself or it's just not completely done as it should be all the way, yet.

Either way I don't think it's that bad, but I get your point (at least in the town shot).

It's only the 360 version. The PC version might be different, possibly having support for tessellation (unless Todd Howard denied it, not sure about that.

I see it too, but you're just going to have to accept the fact, that sometimes land is flat. What bugs me more, are perfectly smooth inclines. They look entirely unnatural.

no its not game breaking, just something that disturbed me. I really hope bethesda can manage to make it more like the crysis shots (that also use dx9 right?)

I like them very much, Skyrim has a typical classical medieval style :goodjob: (for example the woman that is watching to the main character from her house, notice her clothing). And in my opininon the heights are good?

It just needs a good normal map, that's all. Maybe they still use placeholders for some of the textures, as I doubt they'll put it ingame like that.

The ONLY thing that bothered me where the controls. Right bumper (or R1 for ps3) for dragon shouts, and Left bumper (maybe L1 for ps3) for sprinting. I hope we can change the controls.... :sadvaultboy:

Somehow those pictures make my eyes hurt. Probably because I see them as both a flat plane and having depth at the same time.

What do you mean they don't have depth? You can clearly see the gravel lines in the screen with the rocks protruding above them.
