You say that like it doesn't make every aspect of the game
vastly superior in every way.
...and if you want the ability to play the game flawlessly with all the mods you could want, you need to pay god knows how much money just to make the computers capable of handling the game plus all the crap ya add to it.
My PC can run Oblivion, F03, and New Vegas with any number of mods and I bought it a little before Oblivion came out. I've upgraded a few items but it's essentially the same computer. You could build it now for around $600. God knows how much indeed.
constant upgrades/new computers, constantly having to take care of the computer so it doesnt get viruses and anything else because if it does, its the same as a 360 dying, only alot more expensive.
Unless you're an idiot, or downloaded advlt material and/or warez, the chances of actually getting a virus is minuscule. And in that unlikely scenario that you do happen to get one, and it just so happens to be a nasty one that ruins everything, all that's needed is a memory wipe and you're back in business. Not money necessary.
A console will never trump a decent PC, much less even begin to think about having the chance of almost touching a bleeding edge Gaming Rig. They're built to be all in one cheap demi-computers for those who prefer the simple plug-and-play to the joy of having a PC. There is nothing wrong with the consoles, they're just an entirely different beast. PC's are not gaming machines, they just happen to play games extremely well if needed to. Consoles are only better in that they are fairly idiot-proof, and of course the new motion sensing tech. That (physical immersion) will be the big draw of next gen-consoles, and will hopefully begin a dividing line that will let PC games stray back to their roots and away from the painfully dumbed down games (both graphics and content) that have been plaguing it.
More on topic, even if the new consoles are released the same day, it will take a long time for developers to utilize the new system. The game wouldn't benefit from it; it would be like playing Morrowind on the 360. It'll work, and may load a bit faster, but it doesn't change the game any.
