if the next gen consoles get released in 2012 will you be ma

Not on the new consoles. The new consoles will be for more efficient and more powerful (due to lack of tasks being completed at once) than the PC.

haha no, you sir are misinformed the consoles will be made with the most advanced hardware for the time but no they will never be superior PCs are always capable of being more powerful in all senses of the word, essentially consoles especially with the new dash boards and such are running a TON of background stuff anyways

Alright I'm gonna set the record straight here..

First of all, every computer that is connected to the internet has viruses. Every single one. If you have internet access, you've got a virus. Doesn't mean it won't get fixed in an instant, doesn't mean it will hurt anything. And it is entirely possible to get one without doing anything stupid. The chances are definitely increased by surfing advlt websites lol, but you can take the best care of that computer and if you're online, you can still get a bad virus.

aaa i see a McAfee user here. Let me tell you i can run a computer with no virus protection and surf the internet just fine no viruses no problem, the fact is that 90% of viruses are let into the system by the user because people dont know how to run there own machines properly

I'd be happy. simply for the fact that the base level platforms technology, ie xbox, wouldn't be 6 years old by then.
which is a fairly long time in the world of computer hardware.

Basically that would just mean games will be made to takes advantage of that hardware will exist sooner.

Why do most complaints about Oblivion seem to come from people who wont mod the game?
of course there are those who can't due to financial reasons , and I feel for them.
so many aspirations here for Skyrim, but you know it wont be perfect for everyone.
maybe that's why people advocate for the PC. Maybe they care.

So this thread is now about consoles vs pc? My take on it, both are good in their own ways.

On topic - I seriously doubt they would be released in 2012, In my opinion that is far too early from the release of the 360 and PS3. I had this same discussion over at GTPlanet, and apparentely Sony are not coming out with a new system until at least 10 years after the PS3, or so they say. But i bet if Microsoft release a new Xbox sooner rather than later, Sony would soon follow suit.

What happened a couple years ago, Is that both MS and Sony sat down and agreed to prolong the life of this generation of consoles. Most developers were quite relieved to hear this.

edit: I speculate nintendo will be the first out with a new console.

Though one thing a PC is terrible at is allowing me to play on my couch using my TV (yeah, yeah... I wouldn't be surprised if there was a cost efficient solution for that... still not interested). The graphics may be better, and the keyboard may be more efficient, and mods sound like a great idea, but I don't want to feel like I'm at work while I'm gaming... ;)

I hear this argument all the time, and i can't say I buy it. If you're playing anything at a decent resolution, especially a competitive FPS or something of that ilk, you will need to move your couch or lazy boy really close to the screen to be able to see properly in order to compete. When I see console gamers sitting with their faces 3 feet from their TVs, It really makes me wonder where that argument comes from.

God some of you guys probably love the smell of your own [censored]!

I like to savor the aroma of my own farts, does that count? There's just something really satisfying about knowing that my gas could render an Ogrim unconscious. After he literally vomits up his own heart, for me to add to my collection.

They won't. Microsoft and Sony haven't had adequate time to milk their motion-controlled interfaces yet (Kinect and Move), so I doubt we'll be seeing new consoles anytime soon. This makes me sad. Oh well, soon I'll be able to get a job, and thus, with time, a gaming PC.

I would be too busy playing Skyrim to notice.

And what is it about the word console that makes every PC gamer with an account decide to post all at once?

I actually wouldn't care, PC's get almost 30% more powerful each year. By the time the new consoles are out, they'd be obsoleted by the PC.

If Skyrim was on the new consoles it would be detrimental to the game, since BGS would have to learn the new console. The game would end up taking several more years to complete, and the graphics would hardly be superior. Would I be mad if the new consoles were to be released immediately after? No.

Normally this is where I'd make the "color red to a bull" comparison, but Mythbusters went and ruined that for everyone. :P

So, instead I'd say it's more like chumming shark-infested waters.

Three things,
One I would be happy because I wouldn't have a reason to pay 400 more dollars on consoles for at least 2-5 more years.
Two I would be glad TESV came out when it did so we wouldn't have to wait another year :P
Et Trois, Bethesda said (or at least someone said about Bethesda) that they are already quite a long way into the project and I don't think we would have had much of a graphics overhaul in a year. Better yes, but that much better that a year more of waiting was worth it? No, and if you continue to think so then, just hold off a year on buying it because by then a game with much better graphics will be out and then you won't have to complain -_-

Hold on a second...I thought that the Xbox 360 was a next-gen console. Weren't all those people talking about how Oblivion was the first game of the next-gen of consoles? Didn't people keep talking about the Xbox 360 and Oblivion being a next-gen title even a year after it was out. Are people going to start calling the Xbox 360 a 'current-gen' console now?

On another note remember how everyone called the Xbox 360 the Xbox 2 before Microsoft announced the new name. Does anyone actually think that the next Xbox version will be called the Xbox 720? So why do people call it that instead of the Xbox 3?

...you'd have to be mad to think a new generation is coming in 2012. 2013, MAYBE.

Although I don't understand the idea of these old, defined generations. I think the future of consoles is to have yearly updates, such as is done with the ipod, every cell phone, etc. They've done half of that with the PS3 Slim and the black 360 (does that have a specific name?) so there is a precedent for it. The benefits are that you don't end up with a warehouse full of a product that the market is glutted with. You create secondary and tertiary markets as the older models lose value and are passed on (used or marked down in box) and primary level consumers upgrade to the new models. This allows consoles to compete with PCs as they keep up with the advancing technology, and the company at large is not involved with the design, marketing, and production of an entirely new product.

I would think that if the next generation of consoles were to be released soon after Skyrim, we'd have learned of them by now, and developers certainly would have, since developers would probably need to have knowledge and the development tools for upcoming consoles some time before their commercial release to allow them to develop games for them, otherwise, I don't see how games to be released upon launch of the new console, aside from games developed by the same company that made the console, could be made. But even if the next generation of consoles were to be released soon after Skyrim, I would probably not feel the need to be angry. Maybe I'm just crazy, but I don't really object to playing games built on older consoles on occassion, indeed, I sometimes still play PS2 games, even though I could be playing Xbox 360 games instead. This is especially true for when the new consoles are first released as the initial launch games for them are unlikely to take full advantage of their abilities. Besides, I intend to get Skyrim on PC, and I doubt my PC could handle graphics on-par with the generation of consoles that will come after the Xbox 360 and PS3 anyway, with its current hardware, so I'd just end up having a lot of graphics options I couldn't use if Skyrim were released for the next generation of consoles. In the end, I would say working with the current generation gives Bethesda a number of advantages as they're working with technology they used before, which, in theory, should allow them to put it to more efficient use.

Are we really ready for another generation of consoles, now, anyway? Just how much more advanced could a new generation, at this point, be?

Top of the line PC graphics have already surpassed current console capabilities. Next gen consoles will be like last year's PC hardware.

This is just not true.

Bethesda has stated many times how much of a nightmare it was developing for what was then next gen consoles before they were released. Games take years to make. Final specs of Xbox 360 and PS3 were not out till about a year before release. Making a game for hardware that far in the future is like shooting in the dark. Ever wonder what happened to your soft shadows, how much you want to bet it was over estimating the GPU in X360? This is one reason the Oblivion engine was so unoptimized. The engine was built around high end DX9 GPU's and comforted by a number of safety net, cut down engine features to make sure the game would run on consoles. By making a game for hardware that Bethesda knows very well at this point I think we will see a drastic jump in quality over Oblivion.
However it wont be the jump that TESIV had from TESIII. Its simply not possible. I do expect that leap with TESV running at max settings on my PC, Bethesda better put incredible high resolution textures, tessellation out the wazoo, complicated shaders and physics. I remember Oblivion pushing the Ati x1900 and Geforce GTX 7900 hard! I expect on max settings my GTX 580 to be pushed.

I know... there's no way a console would have last years hardware, it would go back at least two.

Your right actually. You have to be able to scale down the chips, make them low power consumption, and low thermals. Because your putting them in a tiny box. Nvidia's GF110 (GTX580) or ATi's Cayman(HD6970) wont be possible or practical for console use until probably 2013 or so. Chips are faaarrr to big and power hungry too put in a console with the current 40nm process or upcoming 28nm process.
Also I hope he didnt mean PC's aren't far ahead of consoles right now. One look at a DX11 game or for the fact GTX580 can run Oblivion maxed on 3 FULL HD monitors at once really shows how far we have come since 2005.

Also by 2013 PC graphics will have increased at least 300%/ 3 fold.
