The next threat

Post » Wed Nov 18, 2009 4:21 pm

What will come after the total destruction of the Enclave (Fallout 2 and Fallout 3), the end of the Super Mutant threat (Fallout 1) and the robots threat (Termina... err Fallout: Tactics)?

War between mid-eastern BoS and the original BoS? -End of Fallout: Tactics-
War between NCR Rangers and the original BoS? -Van Buren-
Resource Wars between the European Commonwealth and the Middle East? -Great War-
South America's civil war? -Great War-
Other?

Let's speculate!

I'd be happy if New Vegas would be something like New Reno in FO2 without any global threat or large military conflict, but some sort of gang rivalry. And, God, please no more heroic and self-sacrificing plot, whole good guys(BoS) vs bad ones(Enclave) thing and Enclave massacre.

Fallout always start with a selfish quest like save YOUR village or find YOUR dad that takes you to something greater that involves thousands of lives, so a simple family-war like in New Reno can lead you to something much bigger.

I would like to see the storyline of New Reno continueing off of Tactics.
What I mean is not Midwest BOS vs. West Coast BOS. I find that match up highly unlikely since the Calculator probably finished off the West Coast BOS who were highly weakened in FO2 and not likely to have made any kind of recovery. Remember they sent their expedition after FO1 and by the time we see them in FO2 they have only one in-game member and lots of empty bases. Combined with this obviously weakened state and the rise of NCR as well as the possible and likely ending of Tactics being the Calculator taking over the Midwest BOS and eradicating the remaining West Coast BOS I find a war between these two highly unlikely in Fallout New Vegas. Most likely the antagonists will be the two shown in the opening video (not spetznaz either). Robots and NCR going at it.
Why not?

I also believe and hope that the Enclave will appear in Fallout 4 alongside the BOS. A new and unheard of enemy will force the Enclave/BOS into a sort of shaky alliance. This could possibly be the Commonwealth or some terrible thing they cooked up. I would bet when we finnally explore the Commonwealth it will be a blasted battleground with BOS and Enclave fighting desperately against some kind of terrifying new enemy that has already destroyed the Commonwealth who created it and threatens humanity as a species if it is not contained.

These are simply my ideas and hopes for future Fallout games and enemies.

Would have been sweet to take a trip to Europe and encounter the European commonwealth, which according to fallout wiki had a unified military atleast before the war

or perhaps they invade canada? :cryvaultboy:

i like the idea of the BoS and the Enclave having to work together to face a common enemy. Maybe the Chinese Survived the war to and come over to see whats happening?

Fallout tactics is a great game and I always ask myself "what would happen when the Midwestern brotherhood establish contact with the original knowledge hoarding brotherhood of steel." I have been wondering that for years!. The Midwestern let outsiders join but they still have the "find technology" goal. They are still ruthless. Join us or die!. They go in and crucify entire towns and raiders, slavers that get in their way. I don't see Lyons doing this. The midwestern brotherhood have Vault Zero and an army of Robots, Behemoth Robots :D. They also have the The Hellion, a flying machine found in Buena Vista.

Beth Even mentions them in fallout 3. So I hope they make a come back maybe even see them in fallout New Vegas or least fallout four.

Since fallout goes by the good ending, this means that the midwestern brotherhood not only lets in outsider humans they let in mutations as well. I can't see the original BoS liking this but with an army of Robots backing the MW BoS maybe there would be an exeption, that or all out war. Or the Midwestern brotherhood will stab the mutation members in the back in the end :D.

My favourite ending to fallout tactics is the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2ZcpcO7C58. If we see the MW BoS again this is the ending I want the game to be based on. Mutant Liberation Army!

The threat has to be an over the top villain. Fallout's antagonists have to be over the top; it's the unspoken rule of the series. Fallout had The Master, Fallout 2 had President Richardson/Frank Horrigan, Fallout: Tactics had the Calculator, Brotherhood of Steel had that Super Mutant general dude, and Fallout 3 had President Eden.

Well the NCR eventually achieves victory over the Brotherhood of Steel, though as to what degree it could be considered a victory is fairly dubious, as the Republic expended a lot more personnel during the conflict. It would be interesting to examine the defeat of the BOS, and the possible implications of the NCR now becoming the dominant regional power.

Some speculation on Post-War events:

New Arroyo and the NCR go to war over control of Vault 13, after the NCR annexes it.

Hardline elements(survivors from the Oil Rig/Deserters from Camp Navarro) stage a coup, and set up a reformed US Government.

The Vault City/Gecko Alliance go to war with the NCR

As per a war between the Midwestern BOS & the BOS, I would see it more as a conflict against the BOS presence in the Southwest(Maxson's Bunker)

Personally, it would be interesting to see the lobotomites and something new and sinister pop up....

I would really like to see Western vs. Eastern BoS where they ally themselves with the MW and Texas factions for an all out war over the mother of all technology in some random place. The main character could be someone who lives in this random place. The game could start out seeing a column of troops coming through town. Maybe some citizen objects and is rewarded with a laser pistol to the face. Maybe then a couple CW Vertibirds fly through and drop a couple bombs. The troops scatter and there's a huge firefight all over the town. You're in the middle with no allies. The houses around you are ablaze. Etc...maybe you lose your family or friends and that kind of initiates the story.

Either that or a trip to Europe from the Capitol Wasteland. I'd like to see either you start out in a battle scarred wasteland 10x worse than previous fallout games. The boat would land there. You walk a flat landscape devoid of life. Then it's just an abrupt change from charred black ground and flat landscape to something not unlike the French countryside today. I think it'd be kind of a cool dual setting. Where the "Safe Zone" is unmarred by nuclear war, but you have to take numerous missions to wasteland for whatever reason.
