The Nine, Their Avatars, and Their Champions

And, yes, I suppose I had forgotten about the Remanada--but that was Alessia's doing, no? How did Kynareth birth Morihaus if she's a distant planet? I have to imagine the Aedra are not like Olympian gods, who have forms similar to humans and can simply birth from their wombs like any mortal would.

Yes, it was Alessia, but you REALLY need to get this through your head, TES =/= RL. A lot of strange things happen, sometimes unexplainable. Back during the merithic era and first era, a lot of weird things occurred, more so than a baby being born from a mountain, or the crap Vivec pulled in his lessons. For Morihaus, just nod your head and accept he is a flying and talking bull, and the son of Kynareth.

I think I grasp what you're saying about the import of divinity: essentially it's that the divinity has less to do with their physical nature and is more of a signpost that they're destined for great things? Is there even any physical manifestation of these demi-gods divinity at all then, or would they otherwise appear as ordinary mortals (whether men or... bull, I suppose)?

Eh?

No, I understand that. I'm not asking for explanations in real terms--just explanations that are internally consistent with what we know of TES lore, rather than terrestrial logic.

As for the second thing--I mean, is there anything noticably difference about the avatars or demi-gods that make them physically distinct from normal mortals, or are they distinct only on a metaphysical level?

Umaril looked quite strange(partly because of how tall he was) and I'm assuming Morihaus was also quite large. That does not seem to be the case with all demi-gods, but I would say that from those two examples, demi-gods do have distinct features. Avatars seem to be whatever shape gods want them to be, which is usually a normal humanoid.

Pelinal wore armor that of a much later era, which made him sort of like a terminator (with the added bonus of a laser cannon), and spoke of things yet to come for 1000s of years later. I think he was also described as having long white hair, despite not looking old. Otherwise, avatars tend to look, more or less, like ordinary denizens of Tamriel. The ones you meet in Morrowind (Zenethar, Talos, and Mara) are quite indistinguishable from everyone, but then you later realize they're the avatars of aedra when you accept their requests by their hints and items.

As for demi-gods, I'd say they'd look...more divine? Certainly not like a normal person from what we have seen so far.

The only thing that really makes them distinguishable from mortals is the metaphysical level. Unless of course they fully appear, in which case expect them to be GIANTS (think Numidium height, for greater divinity has a symbolic relation with how tall someone is. This is also why the altmer religiously try to make themselves very tall and 'pure' because they believe they have to go backwards, not forwards, metaphysically)

Yes, but what would that entail?

Good point about height, especially with the Altmer. Were an Aedra to appear in full form (if that were possible), I think it'd be a frightening thing to behold.

Yes, he was awesome - Screaming Reman Cyrodiil's name whilst biting into the neck of a defeated Ayleid King, or something like that. Pelinal is definitely one of my favourite figures in Elder Scrolls Lore.

Looking, more or less, out of place I guess. More of a feeling in a way. I tend to look at Pelinal or Morihaus as the two best examples. There's Reman I who was born from the earth.

Unfortunately, his latest incarnation was politically correct.
