Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:25 am

ok i got it working. and all happy about it i jump straight into it without taking into acount the warnings of fellow forum members saying it was hard. i then got a reality hit. i ahve spent three hours on this crasy game and stilll havnt found the exit of the privateer's hold. i have killed the thief guy in green but have so low life by now that one hit from the incoming sword of the sqelle in the next room finishes. i cant use a ny magic as it says i dont have the spell points. does anybody have any hints on how to kill 'em darned things.

oh and i love the game so hard an challenging: a good break from OB.

Heh. You know that song by the Beatles? I wanna hold your hand?

Daggerfall don't.

BTW, the exit looks like a stone arch with a skull in it.

Well there are so many doorways and monsters I just get lost and wacked senseless by sqellies and blown to pieces by imps( or whatever those green flying things are).
I thought I heard sqellies are vunarable to blunt, is that true? If it is, is a staff a blunt weapon?

P.S. I know the song "I wanna hold your hand" it takes so long for an update on the message for the tutorial.

Can't you rest and get your spellpoints/health back?

Go back to a location- preferably a smallish room with a door you can close and rest. That will restore magic and health. It can sometimes be useful to look at the 3D map and figure out the general direction for the exit. (Up, North, etc.)

There's a Privateer's Hold tutorial on youtube if you really need it. But you shouldn't, this will only seem hard for now.

After a couple of months playing, I no longer find any dungeon hard to maneuver. Should, it takes time, but there are certain places where you realise "ah, this looks like the place where my objective is hiding!".

There are some dungeons FAR bigger than this first dungeon tutorial, but hopefully by then you would have learned to explore dungeons better, whilst you'll be wearing some better armour and wielding killer weapons.

Good luck and have fun.

For the record, when you speak on this forum, it's by the Eight. No retconned jungles here! :)

Maybe some wannabe cult or somebody that try to claim that they are part of the Eight Divines.

Well for the eight I'm living in the future and have been set back in time to set things right( just like in terminator 2).
@carcofan:
The tutorial is still trying to tell me it is a good idea to save(LOL).
I've pressed the camp fire icon a couple of times and each time it tells me that there are monsters nearby and everytime I kill all the monsters I forget about it.
I'll give it another go todayand see what happens

PS is there a console in daggerfall? I've pressed the ~ key and nothing happens.

There is not a console as such. However, there is a way (with the 2.12 patch) to enable cheat codes. See the UESP Wiki

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Cheats

As is always true with cheat codes, use them wisely, and only in the furtherance of good.

Here's a tip for dungeons in Daggerfall (and mazes in general): stick to the left-hand wall like glue and follow it. Eventually you'll reach an exit.

This is something that has already been mentioned in other "new Daggerfall player" topics but it bears repeating.

During CHAR GEN you have the option of answering some questions that can influence things in the game a bit. One of the questions has to do to with a gift from the emperor. 1 of the choices is an Ebony Dagger. The dagger is very effective against the Imps and any other monsters that require Silver or better weapons to damage them. If you are still in Privateer's Hold and you did not get the Ebony dagger, I strongly suggest starting over with a new character and going through the questions so that you get the dagger.

Privateer's Hold may seem very confusing and maze like but compared to later dungeons, it's not. Yes, there are several side tunnels and levels but most of these reach a dead end eventually. When you reach the large room with the steps and a skeleton you're fairly close to the exit, or at least on the right track. It's not always necessary to find a room with a door to rest in. If you get the "Enemies Near" message when you try to rest, just try backtracking a little. Also most monsters make some sort of sound when they are close by. If you can hear shrieks(the skeletons) or other odd sounds then chances are you won't be able to rest.

Try Arena, its a lot easier than Daggerfall but a lot more challenging than the newer ones, it moves so much quicker too, you can play it for 15 minutes and get stuff done unlike daggerfall where you have to play a lot to get anything done.
