The L.A Noire excitement thread

I actually quite like the box art, it's not like the game itself is played in a noire style either.

Exactly, I couldn't wait too see the cover in a noire colour scheme, but no, just no... :(

Thats modern-noire, and a throwback to the fact that old film-noire was mostly in black and white. The posters for old film noire are all quite colourful.

I am pretty pumped for this game. I'm a huge fan of noir, no matter which guise it comes in. Blade Runner, Dennis Lehane's neo-noir novels, Double Indemnity. ALL OF IT IS GOOD.

I can't wait to rock a suit and let my piece do the talking.

yeah me too.

the main problem with Red Dead for me was that other then the main quest there wasnt much to do.

i hope in this game you can solve tons of side missions, goto jazz clubs, go drinking, play pool, and just plan goof off

No....just no....

Have you actually seen a noir movie?? Every trailer I've seen look like I'm watching a noir movie. I'm really happy with the way Team Bondi did it, although I would have kept the game black and white like it originally was. It looked so much better in the older trailer.

Double Indemnity.

One of my favorite movies

I've only rented RDR, but seriously? I spent most of my time just goofing off, looking for treasure, breaking horses, or doing random road side quests.

This is a story game, dont expect much replay value after you find out the ending.

I agree, I hardly did the main quest most of the time. I spent most of my time totally goofing off and doing what you said, plus exploring and tons of gambling and hunting.

I hope L.A. Noire does the same thing, I want to be able to almost ignore the main quest most of the time and do side missions, go to Jazz clubs and listen to some swing, drive around and see everything in LA, go watch some Hollywood movies in some of the theaters seen in the trailers, go to restaurants and bars, buy new suits, etc.

That stuff plus the detective work would for sure be on my favorite games of all time list :hubbahubba:

I have to bring something up here

who is actually developing this game? Rockstar or Bondi? I thought Bondi was Developing this game and Rockstar was only publishing it.

if this is the case, why does the cover say "Rockstar Games Presents"? I mean, yeah RS funded it, but they ultimately didn't make anything, seems like misplacement of credit to me. Though I honestly don't know much about Publisher/Developer relationships so maybe that's normal.

an explanation would be appreciated.

anywho, yeah the box art looks funny, but I think all in all it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I for one am pumped for this game, I LOVE games set in the 1940s and there're so few of them not set in WWII so this is refreshing. From the looks of the advertising it definitely seems like they're pooling the RDR fans in. I think that's actually the same narrator in the Orientation video who did all the gameplay videos for RDR.

I rather like this "history games" series Rockstar is producing/publishing, I hope they keep it up.

I would assume it's to bring in the GTA fans who haven't been following the game and haven't heard of Bondi

What?! I 100%'d Red Dead Redemption. There was plenty to do outside the main story.

I'm really excited for L.A. Noire. Where the replay value in GTA comes from going on rampages and being crazy, it seems the replay value in L.A. Noire will be by actually re-playing the game. From what I've read it seems cases will have multiple paths to solve them.

i hope it doesnt tell you weather or not you picked the right suspect.

it would svck to get the perfect outcome on the first try, so i think they should leave some wether or not you picked the right criminal in some cases, ambiguous

I hope things go terribly wrong in the game if you constantly throw innocents in the slammer. If you hardly never put away the right person I hope the ending is different or something. It would be so much more linear if the game held your hand till you get to the right suspect.

I agree, there better be no (You Have Thrown The Wrong Person In Jail.) notification. I hope it's just all based on instinct.

My only two worries are; the game wont be very difficult, or have unbalanced difficulty and replay value.

just found out

the pre-order bonus for this game is a Case called "Naked City Vice"

and it involves the murder of a model.

Had already checked that out. Again this games looks very promising...besides it's not like Rockstar's major titles in the past years GTA IV and RDR didn't win bucket load of awards so I'm guessing LA Noire will be a pretty damn good game. Maybe not GOTY due to ME3 and Skyrim (plus others but these 3 are likely candidates IMO)

Game is looking very promising. Only thing I'm disappointed in is that the evidence is flashy, I was hoping you would have to really look for it instead of just scanning the area for any shiny flashes. The interrogations still look fun though.

I was a little disappointed in that too, and the fist fighting looks clunky. But no matter, I will still get it day 1.

it only flashes if you use intuition points you have saved up, they can also be used to eliminate wrong interrogation choices.
