Very helpful thread, though a lot of your screenshots are really dark.

TBH, I don't really like Vvardenfall Visages.
The faces added in are nice, particularity the human ones, but I dislike some of the hairs and heads.
But really, the thing that stops me from using that pack are the Dunmer with purple eyes. Seriously?

Update time, guys!!

I post this here, but the OP will be updated as well.

Local head replacers

This section will cover smaller scope replacers: the ones which only change NPCs in a specific area or affect a limited set of characters. Put aside Astarsis' replacers and Detritus' Khajiit Faces Replacer (which will be dealt with in a future update) I have identified 5 of them so far:

1) Emma's Dagon Fel Headreplacer
2) Emma's Tel Mora Headreplacer
3) Unique Faces Project - Seyda Neen
4) Unique Heads Balmora
5) World of Faces

As stated in my previous post, each one of the aforementioned 5 mods features a different set of NPCs. To allow comparison with vanilla characters the pictures are divided in 2: the upper part of each pic features the NPCs as they appear by default in unmodded Morrowind; on the lower part are the same NPCs once the changes from the mod have been applied.

For each mod I randomly picked 18 NPCs that I distributed into 3 pictures (6 NPCs/pic). Keep in mind that I didn't attempt to show all NPCs affected by said mods. As with the major mods above, the purpose here is only to give you an overview of the general quality of the replacers, as well as some clues about the artistic choices of the modders.

If you know of any other replacer, please let me know, so I can include them in the next update.

Next on my to-do list:

- Add screenshots of Astarsis' replacers and Detritus' Khajiit Faces Replacer;
- Add shots of Argonians, Khajiits and Orcs to the major replacers (thanks to CABRON for pointing their absence out);
- Fix/replace the darkest shots (thanks to Tanvar for reporting this issue);
- Fix any inaccuracy caused by mod conflict should they be confirmed (the ones reported so far regarding Beryl Head Replacer have been invalidated through the CS on a clean install).

Also, you may have noticed that the NPCs featured in my screenshots so far are (mostly) randomly chosen. I think it could be interesting to have a picture comparing how the major replacers handle prominent characters from Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon main quests. If not key-NPCs, at least characters that every player is bond to meet in the course of his adventures.
Unfortunately I have not beaten the game yet, so I'm not sure which NPC should be featured on this pic. I will need your suggestions. A dozen names should do.

Again, thanks for the feedback.

Fine, fine work, AfroKing. Much appreciated. I'll go through my archives and check if there are any I've seen that you don't have here.

Excellent idea. May I suggest a couple of characters from each of the major factions involved in the main quest?

Temple: Mehra Milo, Archcanon Saryoni (Vivec)
Hlaalu: Crassius Curio (Vivec), Orvas Dren (Dren Plantation)
Redoran: Athyn Sarethi, Bolvyn Venim (Ald'ruhn)
Telvanni: Master Aryon (Tel Vos), Divayth Fyr (Tel Fyr)
Ashlanders: Nibani Maesa, Sul-Matuul (Urshilaku camp)
Imperial guilds: Hasphat Antabolis (Balmora), Sharn gra-Muzgob (Balmora)

(That's just Morrowind, by the way; I'll let someone else tackle Bloodmoon and Tribunal.)

Haha, no, I don't quite understand that either. I'm still looking for a replacer that stays close to the original designs, with higher res textures. I don't mind clones, but they should at least be high resolution!

Well, he is a piercing junkie in vanilla as well with several rings on both ears. The replacers add the nosejob. Of course, that can be debated, but it's a matter of degrees, not an extreme makeover. :)

Hey, did you know there are moving, "real" eyes for better heads?

Even though ocassionaly it can look weird, all in all it's a great addition and I never play without it.

This is a brilliant idea - I've actually been wishing for a thread like this for quite some time. Having said that... after comparing all eight replacers, I still prefer Vvardenfell Visages. ^_^

After looking at the AWESOME work that you have compiled, I have to agree with Helena. I like the Visages the best (so far).

Nice to see this mod mod of mine is still around and remembered. I think it has been my most downloaded mod, despit the fact that it didn't have a single line of scripting, and represents one of the most dull work processeses I have ever gone through - such is the way of the world, I suppose ;)

Ah! Glad I could help direct more attention to it. I like AfroKing's work here. Plus, it was already achieving international fame before I was aware of it. :nod:

EYES! is great. As one commenter said in regard to it, the tendency of the eyes to look away from you when you look the side is very strange (and disturbing at first), but you quickly get used to it, and now I just love it. It now makes me prefer seeing the upgraded Better Heads.

Work is beautiful. Particularly work that is well-executed, regardless of relative complexity. It's easy to screw up the simplest of things, after all. So, cheers to you! :)

I've used a few face replacers over the years (used Motoki's original "NPC Replacer" that eventually became Beryl's for at least 2, currently on Vvardenfell Visages) but I've found that Orcs are the ones that are drastically different across replacers. As I'm stuck on a 64kb connection I'll wait until the orcs make their appearance :D but thanks for the great thread.

Hi, just a question... Seeing the pictures of the different replacers I have noticed that in many pictures of Heddvild char the body is way better defined than the stock one which is the same in the Beryls head replacer picture for example. I have looked everywhere for such texture/mesh replacer, or whatever, but couldn't figute how you did it. Can you tell me? thanks !
Thank you for this post, it is very clarifying !
