The nut kick: No destructable enviroment

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 7:54 am

Holy **** I just found it. Am I mistaken or did these features get cut from the consoles? I don't remember seeing Time-of-day lighting on pc.
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gdc-10-crysis-2/64316

Hmm, as I see it almost every feature from the trailer went AWOL in the actual game. The windows are made of concrete, just as the cars are, I can′t destroy cover, no night-and-day circle and I really started to doubt the advanced A.I. after I watched a cell soldier grenade-kill himself for the 5th time. Right now I feel even more punked than I already was...

I agree with everything said here. And cutting engine features from the game? What was that?!

I still love this game, but yeah, I can't, NOT admit, that there's some cool destucrtible environment **** from Crysis 1 that Crysis 2 didn't get. Why can't I shoot down trees when I want? :(

I already KNOW it's made to run ON consoles, but I still consider it a PC game as well. It's a multiplatform game, a console AND PC game. Thus is must be made to run on them all. It's more of a PC game than Bad Company 2 for sure, and a LOT of people went on to say how that game was soooo PC and how AMAAAZING DICE was *cough*overrating*cough*.

Amen, this game is an unfortunate victim to the console era, they need to hurry up and release new consoles so the pc crowd will get some good pure pc tech games again.

Well BF3 will have full on destruction and at least DICE is gimping the console version so PC doesn't suffer. I wish Crytek did the same thing but oh well.

It's easy for DICE to gimp consoles. It's harder for Crytek due to how CryEngine 3 works. It's like making a WHOLE OTHER game.

It would be cool if Crysis 3 would be made for PC first then gimped for consoles like how BF3 is going to be. That probably won't happen though.

Yeah, so we all hope. But seriously, who saw this **** with Crytek coming? I'm saying - if the one FPS that was indisputably designed for PC enthusiasts kicked out a console game for a sequel, how can we be sure that DICE isn't going to screw us too?

All we can say is thanks to all the people that moaned about Crysis being too demanding, crap gameplay and **** story. I personally thought Crysis' story and gameplay was **** excellent and respected that the graphics would require a PC from the future because that's what PC gaming is about, LONGEVITY! Now what we have is a piece of **** **** half PC game that will last 3 months max.

Edit: Guess we can blame Crytek as well.

Exactly what made crysis 1 funny was that it was so demanding! ;P

agree with you quite a bit there - although not too sure about the binos not working - tried plugging your 360 controller and pressing w/e you need to press? LOL JK!

And yeah - why the hell is my nanosuit telling me how to play this game :(

While I dont want a tree chopping simulator, I do love destructible environments. I was reading CE3's Wikipedia entry and it's white papers.
I the engine is much more capable than Crysis 2 let us see.

It was probably Crytek's own decision and not EA's fault that they neutered the pc sku. I a programmer myself, I can attest that optimization is the hardest and most expensive part of software development. Crytek spent most of their time micro optimizing the game and they didnt want PC sku to be even slightly different from console sku

"Tactical options Avail..." SFTU!

HA! No kidding, I feel infantilized really. Only kids wouldn't be bothered by this and that's becuase they either are not paying attention or they most likely are not spending the time to be "tactical" and just charging and shooting.

They may as well have put an option in the game to highlight routes for you. Press F1 for Steath route, F2 for Armor etc. and the suit can talk you through it.

Hopefully they will patch this out stuff out.

I feel for thise who are having technical problems, but can't the 2000 *help help help help help* threads be moved to a technical support forum?

It just goes to show you how closely they are paying attention to this whole thing. It will be a month since release on 4/22 and MP is STILL unplayable!

+1000 internets to OP. Pretty much agree with him.
I guess the problem is making a ground breaking pc game with highly immersive and destructive environments just isn't as profitable as making another call of duty linear game thing. Truthfully in their shoes you see a crappy group like treyarch making Blops which uses a dated engine super small uninteractive environments drumming up plenty of cash. And you look at cry1 an obviously superior and extremely groundbreaking game in almost every sense, and it doesn't drum up anywhere near the kinda cash or hype like **** blops does. You're unlikely to wanna make another system pushing ground breaking game that won't pull in the dough and just do less work and churn out another call of battlefield game. More money less work. Who doesn't prefer that. I am extremely sore that they made it first for consoles and gave pc users a gimped port. It should be the other way around. I miss breaking the pegs that were supporting all this chopped lumber in crysis 1 and having it roll down onto the unsuspecting North Koreans below. Highly entertaining. I think I shall reinstall cry1 and play it all over again.

Crytek should pull out a new explansion, like warhead, and pretend crysis 2 never existed. There is a name for what happened with crysis 2, its called a FLOP

I do hope Crytek learns from that.
From what I've heard the sale number on consoles weren't that high either (Crytek expected better :P)

Hehe Crytek should just have made a "big city" mod for Cryengine 2 instead. It is just fine for making PC's sweat to this day.

They already have that annoying "PRESS ENTER TO START" option, so why not ;)
"Press SPACE to negotiate" to make surrounding enemies lay down their weapons.
