The Oblivion Quest List (TOQL) is facing an imminent purge.

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 12:06 am

Apparently the Knol site where the http://knol.google.com/k/toql-the-oblivion-quest-list# is hosted is being https://knol-redirects.appspot.com/faq.html, and I just wanted to post about it here in case anyone can get in contact with DEV AKM so he can transfer it to the alternatives mentioned, or maybe if it was possible for someone else to transfer it over.

I mean sure there is the old even more outdated version on dev akm's old site, but you know... this could be chance to save the resource before it's lost, maybe even update it with some of the recent mods. Anyone interested?

I agree. May be a bit outdated, but still useful in my opinion.

I just did a rudimentary download of the main pages just in case I have issues running a proper download with wget later on.

If we can't get someone to help get it properly transferred over, at least we'll still have a copy of it somewhere.

I'm willing to host it on my personal site, but can't commit to keeping it updated regularly (if at all). But at least it won't disappear.

Should I go ahead and convert the links on the backup I grabbed to local links or will another method of grabbing it be used? Don't want to take the effort if it's not necessary. :P

The run of wget didn't go as planned, so I'm doing things manually. >_>

I can probably whip something up fairly quickly. I'll also make it self contained, so that if someone wants to take it over in the future, I can just hand them a TOQL folder with all the files in it.

Alright. I did a full download of each page. Got all the files and whatnot, the links just have to be changed to local ones.

At least it gives us another backup. ^^

Although we've attempted on numerous occasions to contact dev_akm that avenue now appears closed.
Slightly dated, but it's still a valuable source of information.

Thanks for doing this.

I have contact with dev_akm. What would you like me to ask him, specifically? I'm not sure he cares about this site anymore. Do you want me to see if he can send along the sources pages for upload elsewhere?

I already have the source content. Introduction page is done, and currently reworking / updating entries for Big Quests. Not all links work. Feedback is welcome.

You could do us a huge favour by asking him to contact Team Alpha on our development forums or me directly through PM here.
We'd really love to have him either update or remove the information re FCOM on his site.

I finished a rough pass at the moving all the data over. I still need to update version numbers and the links for about 50-60 of the mods listed, but I need to work on other stuff today, so I'll come back to it later. Maybe just do a few a day.

If you want to check it out and the new format, here's the link: http://www.saebel.net/toql.php

Why not just put it on the Nexus Wiki?

My thoughts.

My own quest mod http://tes.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=26219 isn't on the list yet. It would currently fit in the big category. Though honestly, I think there should be a 'huge' category as well, which is something I mentioned a year or two ago as well.

My other quest mod Quest For the Elements is in the big quests category, which I think is comparable to some of the other quest mods in that category size-wise. So that's okay. But QFTE is tiny compared to KDQ, and putting them in the same size category doesn't make sense. Integration: The Stranded Light is also a very large quest mod which I believe could be classified as huge.

What 'Against the Zealots of the Nine' is doing in the big category I'm not sure. From what I remember (keep in mind I played this one in 2006) that was a short quest mod.

HUGE is probably not a bad idea. And just reorganizing them in general, as there are 42 big quests, and only 3 mid-sized. And a couple I found were already listed as companion quests, so they were duplicated. However, I haven't played very many quests at all, so I'm the worst person for the job. I'm really just here to save the data before the web-site goes away. Once I get all the links and version data updated, then I'll work on adding/reorganizing/etc.

Before I request that you add mine, it would help if the categories were better defined. E.g. by expected hours of play, number of quests in the mod, number of NPC's or dungeons added, etc. That way, I'll know where they belong.

Ultimately, this needs to be somewhere that the community can manage it, so that the burden's not all on one person. A wiki's not a bad idea.

TOQL is something I'd like to see wikified as well. I think if we could get permission from dev_akm to use his material to start off a wiki, that would be ideal. Plenty of other modders would be happy to suggest their own mods for the list of course. ;)

If you read the actual content of TOQL, supposedly dev_akm did not write it, but compiled it from DragoonWraith and others...

PS: Requesting moderators to correct "eminent" in the thread title to "imminent". ;)

This is true. He actually posted for people to submit reviews of the mods. I'm certain that he did not play them all and relied mostly on reviews.

Since this time there has been many many new quest mods uploaded. I tried to play a good amount of Oblivion and didn't get to them all - maybe later, but there are a lot if you really look.

Some new mods that could be added (I have not played most of them):
1) Well of Minlorada - ?
2) Sundered Keep - ?
3) An Unexpected Company - ?
4) Blade of the Haunted - medium
5) Arthmoor's Village mods - small to medium quests.
6) Reclaiming Sancre Tor - Large
7) Beyond the Realms of Death - Large?
8) Path of the Skull Bearer - Large?
9) Dibella's Watch - large

Not that I plan or am capable of enforcing it, but I believe the whole point was a list of recommended quest mods. So folks should only be posting and reviewing quest mods they hve played. Folks posting their own works is somewhat self defeating, because tere is no filter, and the list would become useless.

There could perhaps be an "unreviewed" category with a disclaimer that these mods were submitted by the authors. Once a third party has played and reviewed it, then it could be moved over.

I agree there should be some criteris for defining the "size" of a mod, but have no idea what that might be.

But nobody will have played them if they don't know they exist, so the "repository" needs to allow new mods to be submitted, so that others can find them and review them. I know that the Nexus and others allows discovery, but there's more than just quest mods there, so they're harder to find.

It wouldn't be bad for authors to submit for review, as long as someone else writes the reviews! If the listing shows a number of reviews and/or recommendations for each mod, that would start at zero, which may mean something, or not! And I assume a review that says "This is not a quest mod" will prompt removal, but "I didn't like it" will just get that noted, but the listing will remain.

Thanks for saving this list from its own oblivion. I bought the game spring 2009 and didn't add mods until some months later. I quickly became and remain something of a quest-mod junkie. TOQL was the page that turned me on to a great many favorites.

As to new recommendations I am personally familiar with, I'll second the author's nomination of Kragenir's Death Quest. Under LARGE of course. And how could such a list not include Companion Vilja under companion quest mods? Not sure if its quest qualify as small or medium.

I too think several of Arthmoor's Village mods deserve a spot on the list. Of those I run Faregyl and Feldscar come with very nice SMALL quests.

Fort Akatosh Redux allows one to join the Imperial Legion, adds a Legion fort and naval base along the Niben somewhat south of IC (amongst other additions), and includes a series of decent quests I'd debatably classify as MEDIUM.

AFK_Weye expands Weye, adds a nice play-home, and includes some fine quests. MEDIUM overall?, though some of its individual quests are SMALL.

We can't discuss this mod in any detail here, but as this is for a non-Beth site I'll throw out The Elder Council. (The list already includes several of this author's prominent mods). Requires resource pack. Potential users should be aware of possible incompatibilities with some other popular mods. Good quests. Some permanent repeatable tasks. Legion Faction. Quite lore friendly. Partially voiced.

Maybe Region Revive - Lake Rumare? Not sure on this one. I think of it more as an Imperial Isle beautification mod, used in conjunction with Unique Landscape: Imperial Isle, New Roads and Bridges, and AFK_Weye to spruce up the Imperial Isle and its surrounds. But it does include a number of decent SMALL quests suitable for all levels including folk fresh from the sewer.

I know one thing that always bothered me was that Star X Vampires was in the "big" category when personally, I don't think it has any quests. There are only 2 "quests" 1st one has a courier telling you to go to a location, you go there and join the organization, and the 2nd quest is the exact same thing. Past that there are no other 'quests'

My take on sizes:
Spoiler
Huge=
new world space with at least one major town, and a main quest line with at least 5 moderate sized quests
or
A wide reaching series of quests with about 40-50+ quests, multiple guilds, and/or branching storylines also factor in.

Big=
A new guild with 10-20 quests
or
A new world space with a bunch of misc quests

Medium=
quest line mods that don't fit in big, incomplete guild mods, mods with 3-10 small quests, etc.

Small=
Small additions to vanilla guilds/quests, short quests with only 1-2 quests, etc.
One thing that is an issue is individual quest sizes. one mod might have 20 throw-away "go deliver this quests" and be considered "big" while another quest mod might have a huge in depth quest line that is handled by a single quest. So mods kind of have to be dissected to see just how much questing a mod really has.

I'd say:

Spoiler
Huge:
Integration: The Stranded Light
Kragenier's Death quest
Nehrim
Windfall

Big:
Heart of the Dead
Servant of the Dawn
The blackwood company
Lost Spires
Verona House Bloodline
Simyaz's 3 mods? (might be medium, or big)

Medium:
alyeid steps
ivellon
both GtA's
Origion of mages guild
daggerfall memories
sentient weapons
thievery in the imperial city
imperial legion faction mod
OOO

Small:
Star X
Knights of the white stallion
thieves arsenal
enhanced quest roleplaying
This is just a rearrange of the "big" category, the other categories look fine. The mods in "big" I didn't mention, I'm not familiar with. The sizes I chose are based on actual quest content... the old list based it on overall content. As an example of this Star X re-did all the vampire caves and altered the vamperism system thus under the old system it was a "big quest."
