The old give and take

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 11:41 am

please don't snap at me. this thread is a "what if" question, and i posted what I would do if I was given the choice. I did not make my post as if I were demanding it be done, its just what I would prefer based on what I have previously experienced.

Sorry, I didn't intend to come off that way. Just curious what you'd want to replace the MQ with.

I would give up famous voice actors for more voice actors

That's not mutually exclusive either. Todd said they will have plenty of voice actors. Both famous and not famous.

I'd really have to play the game to know what I'd be willing to give up.

PS3 uses Blu Ray and so can a PC.

Xbox can't though, "parity of systems" remember.

Bethesda has gotten around the problem another way by changing the audio compression. Disk space was the only thing limiting depth of spoken dialogue and that had to scrap more than 50% of the dialog they had written from OB because it wouldn't fit on the disk.

Famous voice actors cost much more. I think that that money can be better spent elsewhere. Like on even more voice actors, climbing, or better graphics.

idk, just have the one dragon (aludin) and use the time and money spent on putting more variety into the game.

i know they've really intergratted dragons into the lore of this next game but imo thats a gamble considering that they aren't the first game studio to produce a heavily dragon releavent game in the last two years (of which were lame and shallow). but maybe they'll succeed at what typically turns great games into mediocracy, its a watch and see thing.

I'd give up loading screens for no loading screens.

I'd give up a map roughly as big as Oblivion's for a map twice as big.

I'd give up perks for attributes that are put to work properly.

I'd give up magnetic something for non magnetic something.

I would give up hand-placed trees, bushes and grass in a ~41 square kilometer world for a bigger world with trees, bushes and grass nicely generated.

I would give up famous voice actors for more voice actors, or climbing, or more focus on graphics.

Hah! this!

I don't recall trees and grass being generated ever even being a out spoken problem so I find it wierd that bgs finds it necessary to fix what is not broken.

If it's nicely generated (which is very possible), trees, bushes and grass and such be placed just as "good" in the world as if they were handplaced. Or at least almost as good, but in much much less time. Time which can be spent making the world a bit bigger, for instance.

These things have come a long way since Oblivion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r18c7QlWLBQ

I think the devs are really frowny on making the map bigger in general. at least thats the impression i got, they all ways try to come up with a trick or a justification to why the don't increase the map size.
I am not saying they're lazy, imo I think thay ignore map size because its not a feature of the game thats going to bring in more people opposed to what they do instead of making the map bigger, even though it allows the game to be even better than it would be other wise.

Spell crafting isn't confirmed.

I'd give up attributes for just about anything. Oh wait...

I thought TH had said that it was in the game, or he said that there would be some sort of crafting for magic... maybe I'm just thinking of smithing...

I am pretty sure he was reffering to liking the handling of leveled enemies of NV and not the mainquest.

He said he'd give up the MQ for NV scaling, but NV had both so why can't Skyrim?

he didn't say that he thought the MQ will be bad, he just said that he would be willing to give it up for something he enjoys more. most people are going to have different opinions than you, and being willing to give up something that you think will be very good for something else is likely to happen.

but in general I agree, we can have either side to everything, the more options the better.

Give up new spell system for spears.

Give up all combat improvements for spears.

I'd give up just about anything to play a new mediocre Skyrim with a spear in my hand.
