so is the old group all gone?

ah the past game forum. this had always been my favorite section on the TES forums. when i first joined back in '02, we all had a blast for a long time, until arena was released for free, ever since, there had been a never ending slew of 0Mg R37E4SE D4GG3Rf4L1 4 FreE! and i left after a while, because the forum just wasnt fun anymore. posts used to be awesome, with game strategies, new (old) glitches, places to explore of interest, questions we had of playing the game for years, redguard walkthroughs, discussions of playing battlespire online, finding the elusive betony demo, and finding the missing Arch3d.bsa file (boy how i still remember that). I still feel proud that im the one that uploaded it onto 3dgamers, or one of those sites.

back from 02-05, when i was active in these forums, this place rocked, but now most the threads are just on the games getting to work. so what happened to all the members of old? interkarma's site is down, i imagine the daggerfall remake didnt work out, but did all the old members die off like me? or did they go to another site? I'm talking about the OLD members, interkarma, tameos, darkmouse, rabish12, frostytheozzie, those are just a few of the names I can remember. anyone still here that remembers me? you know, people from way back when the only stickied post was where to find the demos, and coes would give a trophy to whoever found a battlespire demo

I'll try and stick around more, this time. this place is still pretty fun.

so enough reminiscing. I have a question!

how many people out there with redguard have a first edition copy? one with the burned map? Im asking if your CDs came with a CD case, or if they were just in white paper CD holders? because mine were in the latter, but when i found a 2nd edition, they were in the former.

I remember you. Heck, I remember when the forums used to be purple, back before Morrowind (back when I was Matticus instead of Jor). Rabish is still around sometimes, but I haven't seen Taemos or Frosty in a long time. No idea who Darkmouse is. Interkarma only pops in rarely to give an update on the whatever remake they're working on that will never come to fruition.

There are still some interesting threads around these parts. Yes, most of the things are helping the newcomers, but theres still some good stuff. We made a videos thread that's around here somewhere that was fun.

And my Redguard is a crappy rerelease from SoldOut Extreme, so no neato maps for me :(

Frosty is here, I've seen him. Oh, and I haven't been here as long as you, but I have played the game just as long, so whats with the disclusion? Some of us are good people! But most are ignorant nugamers.. :sigh: . Anyways, nice to meet you, and I hope to see you here again. :)

P.S.: The forums pretty much svck now. Completely crowded with imbusiles and pricks. I'm probably included in one of those categories, but oh well.

Hahaha, welcome back! We should play Battlespire sometime. :) A lot of the people you're refering to from Interkarmas days have moved to http://dungeonhack.uesp.net/. (Interkarma didn't have the time to maintain the DFWORKSHOP :( ). I've got the same problem as you, burnt map and paper sleeves and currently missing the play disc. Its here somewhere but heck if I can find it.. (Also, what version got the pewter figurine of Cyrus?!)

I hope you still stick around, though I will say threads have went down since then sadly there is still enough good ones to warrant you staying! :)

I got a map and a jewel case IIRC. Your nick seems familiar. I think Taemos last posted just a couple days ago.. And your "old days" of the early forums for me were the "new days" of what had been alt.games.daggerfall :)

As far as I can remember, the "Release Daggerfall for free" threads have been around since a few weeks after Arena was put online, and perhaps even longer. As for the old members, Rabish doesn't visit this forum as much as he used to (mainly sticks to Community Discussion, as far as I can see), but he still shows up from time to time, and it's the same way with Frosty, although he shows up a bit more often. I seem to remember Interkama coming on here a few months ago, but my memory might be a bit off, and I haven't seen Darkmouse in yonks.

As for Redguard, my version came with the burnt map and the CDs in paper sleeves, same as yours.

It would have been nice with an own forum for questions like "How to make the past games run, where to buy them, is the 10mb Arena file worth downloading, how do you attack" etc...

its good to still see some good fans around here still.

I had completly forgotten that a version of redguard came with a pewter figurine. i recall it coming with a strategy guide? not sure. i never got one.

I just gave away my second copy of redguard to a friend, just trying to expand the reguard legend!

anyone remember that whole betony demo fiasco? how some forum member was good enough to buy a copy off ebay, because no one could find the demo, then he shared it with us, but was missing the arch3d.bsa file! who was that forum member?

and remember xenithar? with his plan to remake daggerfall with multiplayer, in notepad, with opengl support? and everyone shot him down...

Xenithar is still going at it on some forum... I don't think anyone is paying him any attention though (rightfully so).

I'm still around from time to time; I post more in Community Discussion than I do in here, though, for all the reasons you've posted :). Every so often I'll have a peek in Past Games, but it's generally the same topics over and over, and most people can figure things out on their own anyway. I've had a ton of crap come up in the past few months (I'm a wreck right now), and I've been trying to spend less time on the internet in general so that's how things have been on my end.

DarkMouse popped up on Interkarma's forums a few months back, but I haven't seen him since.

It's good seeing you back; maybe if we get some decent discussion/a project of some sort going then this place will see a bit more activity.

Edit: On further inspection, it looks as though DM is posting at the new Dungeon Hack/"Dragonfell" forums.

I am still around as well, and I check the forum almost every day. I don't post all that often, since my specialty is Daggerfall game-play issues, and those don't arise all that often. Anyway, welcome back!

You know there are also people who didn't have internet before Morrowind was out :/ No walkthroughs for Daggerfall, no anything. No even idea about these forums. :)

Now, I actually might be able to play Battlespire online, but only very occasionally. I don't think I ever manage to do it actually :/

Rabish12, was he the one with the redheaded Nord as an avatar and always giving a crapload of help in these forums? I remember him well, because not only did he get my ARENA running, but he introduced me to nethack as well, something I still play occasionally.

1. Because you're relatively new compared to other members of "the group" (as am I, that is if I'm even considered part of "the group")
2. Because you still post from time to time, and since old posts hang around longer here than in other places, it can make it seem like you post more often than you actually do.

This is my first post to this forum. However, I was a regular for a while in the old news group; alt.games.daggerfall. I really just looked here to see if there was as much fun in this forum as I remember from the old news group days. The Oblivion forum has the same malady with repetitive topics and noob questions.

Reading your post made me stop and think about why the old group was so much more fun than the forums here. I think it has to do with being a moderated forum. You are required to stay on topic. In the old days, a thread could (and often did) wander off in hysterically funny directions. Ribald humor aimed at fellow posters was not unheard of. Wit, and a sense of humor were the order of the day. Of that group, the only name that still comes to mind is Chicken George.

Some of us old farts still lurk in the group, but lately wit and humor are lacking - As stated above, most posts are about getting the older games to run, or wanting Daggerfall to be free. My Redguard came with the burnt map and a cardboard case....

Well for what it is worth I remember you also. I usually don't post much but loved reading all the different opinions.

You all had a way of saying everyone was right and wrong at the same time.
