I have heard the Skyrim forum is quite unpleasant as everyone bash each other and their opinions which is truly a shame :shakehead:

I don′t plan to play Skyrim anytime in the foreseeable future. Partly because I′m very content with Oblivion and my character there and partly because I probably wouldn′t like it as games nowadays tend to get horribly simplified and shallow. Today many games are made for consoles and converted to the PC which is the most stupid thing the devs can do imo. Consoles are in a way more for the larger population and therefore targeted, and the differences between the console and the PC are too great for games not being developed separately. Also the deadline is a major pain as games are released with many bugs simply because they don′t take the time needed to finish them.

But if you wanna talk Oblivion, you′ll probably find at least me here :wavey:

Well, I won't be getting Skyrim at all. I refuse to install Valve's Steamingplileofcrap spyware on my PC just to play a game, and Skyrim is virtually unplayable on PS3 (my only other option) due to the ridiculous lag. If this is a preview of what Bethesda has in store, I won't be getting any more of their games. Ever.

I forgot one of the biggest reasons not to play Skyrim. Thanks :)

The Skyrim forum is horrible, whining, complaining and rudeness.
Here? Its just a bunch of friends chilling and talking about an amazing game which most of us aren't done with.
I have stopped playing Skyrim for a while, I just couldn't leave Riften in Cyrodil all alone, he is probably off praying at a Shrine of Talos so I will talk to him :)

Acadian wont be playing Skyrim for about 1-3 years.
Mirocu said at least 10-15 years (Me thinks)
I believe Pseron and Mara are playing Skyrim.
Decrepit? Not sure

And I was enjoying it a lot, especially the College of Winterhold.
I'll probably go back onto the Skyrim forums when hopefully it cools down.

Well if I can′t buy, install and play a game without having an internet connection and spyware on my harddrive, then it′s a game I will never play. You′ll find me on Solstheim or in Cyrodiil, but sadly never in Skyrim :violin:

Buffy and I will be playing Oblivion for a long time yet. Moving is not the problem; we have traveled across games before, and time/distance is no consideration for a pixel princess. We just do so at a glacial pace to the tune of about five years per game. Her tale in Oblivion is nowhere near complete. When it is, I will consider a new playground for us. This involves wiping Buffy's memories and breathing her spirit into a new form. A style of reincarnation if you will.

My old mind (and fingers) are not nimble enough to deal with more than one character in more than one game at a time, so playing multiple characters or games simultaneously is not something I enjoy.

Although I leisurely watch the wiki being built for Skyrim and the game is on a list of future possibles, I just don’t ever pick up new games. Nothing against Skyrim, and I’m sure it’s a fine game. I’m not a beta playtester however, and prefer to patiently wait until things have been patched, wiki’d, expanded and generally sorted out.

I have never visited the Skyrim forums here and am sorry to hear that some members there may fall short in cordiality. If I may humbly offer some forum advice that has served well: 1. Be gracious and patient with each other. 2. Try to be accurate, and humbly admit when you err.

I've peeked into the Skyrim forums a few times, and found the noise and rudeness level a bit too high. Maybe that will settle out a bit, as the "shine" wears off the new toy.

For the foreseeable future, I won't have any reason to post in the Skyrim area, since I don't (and won't) have the game. For reasons others have mentioned above (not least of which is the fact that I'm still greatly enjoying the games I already have), I will not buy Skyrim.

Why won't I buy Skyrim? Several good reasons...

First of all, I refuse to pay to beta-test unfinished software.

Secondly, I consider the Steam method of DRM to be intrusive and risky, since I would have to rely on Steam's ongoing presence in order to play a game I have paid for. (Internet down?...Tough luck. Forced update breaks your installation?...Tough luck. Steam goes out of business, or changes their business model to charge a fee to play?...Tough luck.)

Thirdly, from what I have seen posted on the Skyrim forums, I would be very unhappy with the game's PC user interface.

Fourthly, there are a ton of older games I have not yet played, which I can buy for far less than their original cost. Older games have generally been patched to fix their worse bugs (let's face it; they all have 'em.) Example: I just recently completed a play-through of Two Worlds, which I had bought from GOG.com for less than ten bucks. It's not Oblivion, and the dialog is laughable, but the main quest is actually an engaging, fun story, and the world is big and open. It has enough replayability to make it more than worth the price I paid. I would never have bought that game, at full price, when it was released.

But most of all, I'm still not finished with Oblivion. I'm not sure that I'll ever be finished with it, given that it can be modded endlessly.

I have not yet acquired Skyrim. It's reserved, but it matters not to me whether I pick it up tomorrow or two or more years from now. One is as likely as the other. In the meantime my decrepit avatar, Vilja, donkey-Groucho and Wolfgang continue patrolling Cyrodiil's major thoroughfares, gathering taxes-due, and soliciting private commissions.

Heck, I even woke the original Decrepit (first play-through version) the other day and advanced several of his many unfinished quests. Though the two Decrepits are quite similar (and look identical) Old Decrepit feels quite alien to me now. An oddity...during my first play-through I took tons of screen captures, but except at the beginning have taken few during my second (current) play-through. Yet as soon as I woke Old Decrepit I found myself pausing his adventures to grab images just like ye olden days.

ADDENDUM: BTW, I'm honored that some consider me an "old timer" forum wise. Having not bought the game until early 2009 I continue to see myself as something of a newb. (If I ever had a presence on Bethesda forums before then, and I might have, it was while on some now long forgotten dial-up account under a different name. We're talking early Morrowind now, or more possibly Daggerfall if these forums existed back then.)

I make no claim at all to having any insights. But it should be noted that at least a few of us including myself remain active in the Morrowind forums, as well as here. I've got fully modded Morrowind and Oblivion games in progress at the moment, in what time I can spare.

The Skyrim forums are just as the Oblivion ones were when they first opened up, with the exception that there are even more people who seem to have checked their courtesy and common sense by the door before entering: [censored] who shout down anybody that utters a complaint, and trolls who can't say anything good. The moderators can't keep up with it all, and I suspect know better than to try. The times I've looked in there have been a few thoughtful, intelligent posts, but they're drowned out by the screams.

I've tried Skryim for about 4 hours. For me, in its current state, it's got little appeal: forced leveling, terrible UI, no spellmaking, a lot of anti-RPG self-replenishing dungeons without reason to exist (and with a sound when you've cleared them), etc. I'm sure that will change about 6-12 months after the CS appears, and we get elaborate quest systems, redesigned inventory/magic screens, more keybindings, etc. It's just a matter of time. But there's little incentive for me to play it now, and none to take part in what passes for discussions. Once the next greatest game of forever shows up, I'm sure many of those folks will move on.

I am playing Skyrim, but I try to avoid the forums. I don't like the pace or the rudeness that seems to exist there. I know if I posted something it would never get read before the thread was relegated to the second or third page, and that's a real shame.

I do miss playing Oblivion. In fact I'll probably play it again after the weekend. I do like Skyrim but I haven't connected with my character on the same level as I have with my Oblivion characters, and their stories are not yet complete.

Oblivion was always my first love, and I'm very familiar with the game, so I'll be sticking around here to help new members, and to interact with my friends here. Just because I have a new game, doesn't mean I'll give up the old. :foodndrink:

Most of what I've read there are not attacks on Skyrim, but loud, rude insults hurled at anybody who dares to dispassionately discuss any design flaws or issues in the game. I've seen people who ask about mods for the horrific UI being told they were fools, trolls, and imbeciles--literally. I think you'll find that most of us really take a dislike to the ardent types who viciously attack any other viewpoint. The trolls are a very small minority compared to them.

No reasoning with the cheerleading squad. Once they go off to the next game and the CS appears, we'll start seeing some good mods address the issues some people have with Skyrim. And everybody can be happy playing the game the way they want, instead of the way only the "Skyrim is the greatest thing in the universe, don't you dare insinuate otherwise!" crowd insist.

Skyrim is great but (you knew it was coming) it made me miss Oblivion and Morrowind. It hasn't gripped me as much as the other games.

It makes me sad to think of what could have been, after six long years since Oblivion's release yet what Bethesda eventually came up with. Which is why i will haves head back to Morrowind and Cyrodiil :)

I keep being asked if I am going to play it, and the answer is, "Yes, at some point".

I got Morrowind in 2006 and Oblivion in 2008, so I'm hardly one to adopt games quickly. The problem with Skyrim, as far as I can see, is that it will almost certainly need patching within an inch of its life. I don't want to be halfway through a game and then version 1.2647 comes out...

Heh. Getting rid of spiders should be easy with a mod. Really, truly fixing the UI--that will be the work of someone deserving of a new Nobel Prize category.

But this is getting off-topic. So let me put it this way: if I made my joke about the UI in the Skyrim forums, I'd be called every allowable name under the sun by half a dozen people within less than an hour. And I know this for a fact because a few hours back I took a look at a thread with a good, serious consideration of UI issues, that was answered in just that way. Nothing useful can come of that.

granted i'm not an old valued member of this forum, but i have started playing skyrim. I still like the feel of ob more, granted skyrim is great, but i guess i'm like the old morrowind players now.

That said i dislike the skyrim fourms, threads get lost in a couple of hours, people troll, and any problem you have with the game must be heresy. I'll come back to ob some day, but i'm kinda burned out of ob for a while

I'm playing Skyrim, and it seems I'm the odd one out here :P
I like the UI, found very little bugs, and I am enjoying better than I remember enjoying Oblivion - though that could be because in 2011, Oblivion hasn't seen that much attention and I struggle to get back into it.

I'll probably return to Cyrodiil one day, definitely in the new year, however.

I've peeked my nose in the Skyrim forums once or twice, and I didn't really enjoy it. Trolls, spoilers and yelling is everywhere. I much prefer this forum to anywhere else on this board (bar Artwork and Fanfiction). The community here is great, and I like posting here, discussing the game I fell in love with.

Actually, Skyrim hasn't really given me the same feeling Oblivion did. When I first played Oblivion, it was more "Wooooooooooooooooooooow....." and with Skyrim, it's been "Heh, this is pretty neat! So is this! Ha!"

As with any new game, upon its release there is an influx of rude, bigoted idiots who swarm the internet in search of exploits, short-cuts and cheats, and are generally rude and obnoxious to people in their attempts to get them. Give it a month or two, and the novelty will wear off, and then the Skyrim forum will establish a decent crowd.
