Am I the Oldest git playing skyrim?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 7:18 am

Yep and some of us grew up with our children's consoles and pc's. When I grew up there was only hopscotch and jump ropes. But I never hesitated to buy my kids video games so I could play as well. Families that game together stay together. :lmao:

:D That's right, summer! My grandkids always tell me i'm the cool granny. Because I play video games.

I'm 73 (gulp). Must admit I'm having a bit of trouble with Skyrim because my hand-eye coordination is pretty poor, and my quick response time is p.r.e.t.t.y...s.l.o.w. But I'm now up to Level 5! :teehee:

The first RPG I ever played was Wizardry for the Apple. Anybody else remember those great games?

I am 57,

Wizardry on the apple 2, was the first game I ever completed.

So I have been playing games since 1980.

And I've worked with computers since they were made with individual transistors.

Looks like an Elderfest going on here and thought I had to join in. I remember a friend showing me Pong on their Apple IIe. That led me to get an Intellivision console several years later. The first RPG on my own computer, Ultima on an Apple IIc. Those near my age may know what I am rambling on about. My great nephew almost fainted when he heard his grandfather told him that his great-uncle John was playing Spiderman 3 on his Xbox.

28, but I feel ancient whenever i'm reminded that the first video game I ever really got into, DOOM, is nearly 20 years old.

69 here. I loved Wizardry on my Apple II+, as well as the Ultima series. I remember playing Pong for hours in the local bar (anyone remember that classic Pong match in Rancho Deluxe?)

Wow...I just turned 52 last week...it's nice to know I'm not alone in the "over 30" gaming club! :) My first video game other than Pong was Sabta Parava or something like that on a TRS-80. Kind of a Renaissance Italian Sim City.

I'm surprised a lot of people my grandmas age plays this game. I live with my gma, and she will try to play a game sometimes but she mostly loves to watch me play. People that are 50 or 60, video games were before their time and usually older people are like "ugh i hate computers in my day we had to go OUTSIDE and hit each other with rocks for fun!!!" lol

I love this topic!

So far the elder soul (see what I did there? ;)) is 73 years old, but there might be an even older one strolling around here!

My age is 21, and I remember the first game I played being Prince of Persia being the first game I played. I played it from my third year and on. =]

If you look at the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_consoles , and the dates they were invented, you will see that gaming isn't new. Some of us actually grew up playing them, and just never stopped. Most that did play back then "grew up" or just grew out of them so to speak. I think it's ridiculous that so many people think that there's some special age limit to liking or playing video games. I will play until my eyes go blind, my fingers stop working, or I die, whichever comes first. And I'm a 45 year old grandma of 4, who already has all 4 into games, and 2 locked into the TES series. ;) They don't play, but they beg grandma to play so they can watch. :P They are only 7 and 8, and granny doesn't let anybody touch her computer...

I think part of the reason for the assumption is that a lot of people from our generation aren't really keen forumers, so their voices simply aren't heard as much; I guess perhaps because public access to Teh Intarwebs didn't really kick off until the mid-late '90s and at that time many were busy faffing about with careers and boring stuff like that. I occasionally try to get some of my peers online, but in spite of most of them being into games for decades, the idea of going online to waffle about it doesn't seem to appeal for some reason. Although bulletin boards also go back decades, they were always more of a niche interest than gaming, which was definitely very much mainstream by the early '80s.

I'm 34 myself so still in the "young crowd", still svcks going into gamestop or whatever place and buy a game where the guy at the counter asks if he should wrap it as a gift for your kids around x-mas time.

I will probably still play games when I'm 60 I just find that there are less and less games each year I'm really interested in. The only games I bought this year was Fable 3, Deus Ex, Dark Souls and Skyrim for the Xbox360 since I really need a new computer.

Ah Wizardry...a couple were some of the toughest RPG's made. They had no in game maps or journals so taking notes and making maps on graph paper were a big part of playing. And does anyone else remember tweaking your config.sys and autoexec.bat files to get games like Doom running? And it was uphill both ways. :P

There will be a lot of people showing this thread to their wives now. I'm only 29 but I catch hell all the time for playing video games! At least now I know I have no reason to feel like I need to stop!

I'm 34 and I catch flak from my wife and co-workers.

I still find myself gravitating back to the original Zork series too. Man, I love text based games.

Nah not old at all age is just a number. I just turned 35 in October. I'm a female gamer. The first game I ever played was Dragonstomper on the Atari 2600. Has anyone ever had the Aren't you a little old to be playing video games comment happen to them? I have and all I could is just shake my head and chuckle.

I turn 50 on Christmas Eve and my best girlfriend is 57. We both love Skyrim. Even my hubby was tempted to play it. He just doesn't like the WASD keys. Would rather use the mouse to move. My first game played was Civilization. My first RPG was Mass Effect and I am happy to say that I am on order for the collector's edition of Mass Effect 3 along with my 15 going on 16 yr old son. He says he may play Skyrim sometime, lol. He just played COD:MW3 and is now playing a canon play through of Mass Effect 2.

Back in the early 90s when the Ultima franchise was in full swing, the boards were full of teens and quite a few twenties. Computer games back then were made for them it seemed. However since then the average age for the gamer seems to have creeped up considerably, due to those original gamers getting older and the fact that computer use is now almost universal. Log into any MMO and you'll probably find a significant number of over 40s. This applies to any single player RPGs as well. I'm 48 and have played every Elder Scrolls since Daggerfall. My best friend's father is 78 and is a devoted Fallout 3 and Fallout NV player. As this industry gets older the player base expands and the average age of the player becomes more of the average age in general.
